Come up and stay with me in my apartment up here. It's got to be around 50 in here. Last night I got home in time to help out with the ImperialFL draft and I just kept my winter coat on. It's cold. I need a snowbunny to keep me warm.

Well, bbor is available, but it will take him at least four times longer to get there than usual...

hell no, we don't want snow!

I have to drive in that crap all week if it comes....and Jeeber, north Texas gets coated in ice when bad weather hits. No way I want to get stranded in 20 degree temps for 24 hrs again with no heat because some jackass slid down a hill backwards and took out my truck.....

Ya, it's snowing like a motha up here! I've got a spongee game tonight too, hopefully it stops with enough time for them to clean the rink before we play. Nothing is more frustrating than having a sweet pass ruined as it sticks in a snow drift.

I can't wait 'til we get snow here. If it's raining like it has been, might as well be snow. I can handle cold weather if there is snow.

Haha, no, the puck is a "sponge-puck", much softer than the galvanized rubber used in traditional hockey (you can sort of squeeze it a little, but it's not absorbant or anything). Also, the participants wear broomball shoes (or "spongee shoes" as their now known) instead of skates. It's pretty huge here in Manitoba, thousands of players in a whole bunch of different leagues. Not sure if it is popular thoughout the rest of Canada though (my guess is "no" based on bbor's reaction).

It is sort of popular here in Quebec, we just don't call it "spongee" :)

In French, we call it "hockey bottine" where "bottine" is the usual word for the "spongee shoes"...

I don't mind a little ice... ;)

Actually, a couple of winters ago when we got the big ice storm in February I got three days off of work because the highways were so bad. They just closed the restaurant down...very nice. :)

But Shan won't turn Informer! [chorus]</pre>

Yeah - I know! He was sick 2 days last week so I got to watch Nickelodeon with him all day. However, I escaped the punishment of actually having to go see the Spongebob Movie...that honor went to radii who made the fatal mistake of actually laughing at a Spongebob Movie preview in the theater! I don't think he'll be making that mistake again!!!! :)

Spongee pucks are usually orange too. :) Well, the ones I see. I never played the game, but I used the pucks for street hockey when I was younger.

No, they're usually black. You're thinking of the plastic pucks used in street/floor hockey I think.

I know the bright orange plastic pucks... that hurt more than I thought if it's really cold outside.

I always thought the spongee pucks were a dull orange, and could be ripped apart easy... like those murder-ball nerf balls. I might be mistaken.

Jeeber, that is the storm in which my truck was taken out above Hillsboro. We sat on a back road all night freezing our asses off because the DPS would not allow wreckers to come get us. They were making them clear the interstates of all the wrecks first, and our truck would not run with the front completely torn up and the back end hanging off the road.....

Thankfully in the morning I was able to warm up sme as a guy down the road invited us in and gave us some hot food and then built a big fire for us in his front yard. Stood around all that day still, finally had a wrecker from Dallas come brng us a new truck and take our old one after about 24 hours.

And the guy who hit us had some trailer damage but was able to take off a few hours after the accident. The victim always gets the short end of the stick...

But hey I guess I had a day off too. :D

It's the first snow of the year
I guess it happens once a year
It's the first snow of the year
Oh glory
And dogs in the neighbourhood are going crazy
And even all the old ones that are usually lazy

It's the first snow of the year
I wonder will it stay for good
I wonder will it be here in the morning
When I wake up to meet the day
Will the fresh white snow still around me lay

It's the first snow of the year

And I know that by February
My thoughts on snow will be contrary
But this is now and then is then

It's the first snow of the year
So put the bicycles away
And clear the walkways with a borrowed shovel
And I heard this year is going to be trouble
If you thought last year was bad
This year's supposed to be double

But you can never tell
And it's probably just as well
Take the toboggan to the nearest valley
And night time comes just way too soon
And you drag the thing home under a half lit moon

It's the first snow of the year

And I know that by February
My thoughts on snow will be contrary
But this is now and then is then

It's the first snow of the year
So I think we should go to bed early
Light a candle where we lay
Stay as warm as we can stay

Fill my nose up with the smell
Of the first snow of the year
Before you know the things will be getting long but as
We hunker down a spell
And the fire's burning well
I like the way that we keep warm in the covers
On the first snow of the year

Hmm, those might be something different that I haven't seen.

As for the orange plastic ones, those things are terrible. They hurt like a sonofagun! My buddies and I play road-hockey once a week, and we have learned, after much trial and error with different products, that the ultimate road hockey solution is a wiffle-ball with a sock stuffed inside. Sounds stupid, but works amazing, and you can play goal with no fear of any great injury.
