View Full Version : So my GF watches days of our lives...

And I pay little to no attention at all but one of the characters faces has a whole bunch of scars on it...so while im in bed tonight, laptop on lap, my GF watches it on tivo. I look up and say, "damn, what the hell happened to her?".."she got into a car accident." My response was, "damn, she got jacked up." The look I got was to die for. I encourage you all to use that term whenever possible around your significant other...."Jacked up". Something is overpriced? That shit is jacked up. Your wife wants you to get her something over $200 for a holiday? honey, thats jacked up. Somebody is really ugly (not deformed or handicapped, just ugly [sure they might be nice by im talking definitional wise])? woah!! she is jacked up.
I ahve a feeling the rainbow of facial responses you can extract from the same person over, maybe say a week, might be priceless.

You're just asking for someone on here to get his ass kicked by their significant other for spouting off that line. :D

I'll admit to watching Days on and off for the last 8-10 years. I need to start watching it again.

Jacked Up is such a gay term. No offense intended I just think that it's use stemming from the god awfull ESPN show that used to be about football instead of guys jumping around acting like idiots (what happened to Tom Jackson?) has me so pissed that I would smack anyone using it.
Oh yeah, and One Life To Live so kicks DOOL's ass. :)

how can the first quote resound any more hollow when it is followed by the second? I will say the "jacked up" coming out of my mouth was unintentional and unplanned, so the usage on ESPN has certainly invaded my psyche...i just thought it was funny that it came out as a description of that girls wicked scars.

The Boss watches General Hospital. Sometimes I am forced to sit and watch while actually doing something else. One thing I learned is never never never never ever ask "whats the story with this guy/girl?" It never fails, I get a minimum 5 minute monologue on the history of the character that involves 35 marriages, 14 incidents in a coma, 6 times on trial for something (usually murder) and an alien abduction.
Learn from my pain. Save yourself.

My wife watches GH and DOOL. Fortunately for me, she hasn't had to tape them to watch them in quite a while. Fortunate for her, too, since I usually treat it as my own personal MST3000 performance.

I can't stand any of those garbage shows. My Fiance is addicted to that show "Starting Over". It is the worst show, and she Tivo's it. She gets home before I do from work, so by the time I get in, she has already begun her Starting Over/Oprah 2 hour Marathon. It just gives me time to do my FOF stuff without being harrassed.

Usually, if you watch for an episode or two the characters themselves will rehash the entire story for you and you'll know exactly what's going on. Rather humorous actually.

Those scenes, and the ones where the person speaks out loud about killing/hating/hatching an evil plan involving the person who, seconds earlier, walked out of the room, are my favorite soap opera devices. High comedy.

I think my favorite is whenever they show somebody driving a car which is always the last 2 minutes of the thing. I always say "I bet they have an accident". They always do. 9 times out of 10 its a woman, she is pregnant with the possibility of 2 or 3 different fathers. Coma insues for a week or two.

The thing about these shows is that sometimes they can actually, probably by accident, stumble into a real good storyline or performance.
I think back to One Life To Live and the entire Todd stroyline where they gang raped Martie at the college and they turned it into a real deep year long arch about the saving of Todds soul and how he went from being an angry teenager into a "good" person. Of course it wrapped up with him saving Martie from drowning during a storm and was a tad over the top but it was really a pretty good storyline and Roger Howarth really showed some major league acting chops, so much so that he almost broke thru into major filmwork, but alas his window of opportunity sort of faded away.
On General Hospitol the dudes who play Sunny and Jason are actually really good actors who when given storylines that arn't ridiculous can really shine.
Alright, I guess it's time to hand in my membership as a man. :D

Every once in a while, I'm home on a weekday, and I'll be sitting around while my wife watches a soap opera or Oprah or some crap like that. I immediately transform into "Beavis and Butt-Head" mode, making snide remarks and crass jokes about the bad acting, the horrible writing, the convoluted, absurd, and highly implausible plotlines. After a while, she either leaves the room in a huff, or slaps me upside the head. I consider either result a badge of honor.

Ya ever notice how soap actresses are never really "hot"? I dunno, i find it kind of odd, they never get really smokin chicks, just average chicks. It's not like the acting could be worse.

I do the same thing in regards to starting over and oprah. The screaming all of the soccer moms make when a guest is introduced is obnoxious. In starting over, I always walk by and someone is crying, the show is stupid, how could you watch what basically is a pshyciatrist (sp?) meeting for an hour. Both of these shows make me vomit. I'd rather read the Vasectomy thread.

One Life to Live also has had some of the dumbest story lines I have ever seen. The lost city of gold under the mountain, last year they brought back to life a man who had been blown up in a secret room inside of the walls of someone's house.

Mrs Samdari got addicted to this piece of crap the last 3 weeks of pregnancy, while she was home waiting for the blessed event. During the 2.5 weeks I took off from work after Nate was born, I watched it every day. Now that I am back at work, I miss it, and ask my wife how the girls are doing at least twice a week.

there was a week(ish) where she watched it in bed while i did laptop and I swear I heard some guy, bitching and moaning about his dad leaving his mom for some other woman. Each and every time someone in the surrounding group would begin to tell him to chill "a bit", he would say the following, "NO!! He's the one we should be mad at!!" and then he would change it just a bit 5 minutes later. This went on all week. Some girl, the duaghter kept saying, "mama or papa" for everything, like all people of spanish descent have to say that. IT was soooo annoying, so I started tivoing South Park and now I watch that right before she watches her soaps...its begun to put it in perspective for her i think.
ANOTHER thing, DOG the Bounty Hunter, we like that show. He's a nice guy, bad hair all around, but a nice guy.

You guys should watch it together and make snarky comments together. It's awesome! In fact, I think Passacaglia and I only watch shows now to mock them (such as the worst show that has ever existed -- 7th Heaven).
Here's a pretty funny site that has some sarcastic recaps of soaps (sort of a televisionwithoutpity.com wannabe) that we're actually considering starting to write for OLTL: hxxp://pub18.ezboard.com/bsoapslut

My wife watched this crap so much, and I had to watch it by extension since she was taping it, that I actually recognized Joe #2 from Port Charles in a recent commercial for a pickup truck (the one where the wife/GF starts to call him an asshole before he shows here that he put the table in the backseat of the pickup), and just the other night, flipping through channels, I came across a Skinamax flick starring the guy who played Frank, Joe's brother, from Port Charles.
I HATE it when that happens.
