Rumors are rampant on ND sites like Blue and Gold that Mike Shannahan is going to be ND's next coach.

Talk is coming out of Denver that Shannahan has been offered 3.5 mil. Interesting.

The same place where every single star college player and coach get their money from - boosters of course. Damn them.

Ya, by $3.5 would be far and above anyone in the game- Stoops reportedly makes about $3 M (which I thoguht was the highest). thus my surprise.
ANd college sports are bullshit of the highest order- I've always maintained that. :D

I really hope this does NOT happen... I want soooooo much egg on ND's face. I want somebody like Rutgers' coach to turn them down...

There is already so much egg on ND's face. Rutger's coach turning them down would be a full omelette.

Growing up I was a big ND follower, just because they were on TV every week, I guess. As I've grown older and become not so fond of arrogance, I've been kind of turned off by them. The arrogance that school and some of its alumni have is just amazing. No matter what spin these guys want to put on it, they fired their coach because they thought their next big thing was going to be scooped up by someone else. Then, they assumed that just because they are Notre Dame that Meyer was going to genuflect and basically do backflips to coach there. Guess what guys, Notre Dame isn't big time college football right now. You have to do more than throw your name around. Maybe these guys need a slap in the face like this to realize it's time to stop relying on the mystique of ND.

espn claims Weiss.

Weiss, along with Clements, are both being interviewed. Clements was interviewed today, Weiss will be over the weekend. The Shannahan angle is the surprise here, if there really is any fire behind the smoke. Many believe ND has to go big with a proven coach with Pro experience. Another 'prospect' will not be acceptable, to either the fans, alumni OR (maybe most importantly) to a certain network that carries ND games.

So what would the deal be with any pro coach? Can they just up and leave right now or do they have to wait until the season's over?

Most likely. The NFL cannot control if a coach leaves for a different job not within it's jurisdiction.

Looks like Shannahan is staying.

BlueandGold.com forum poster has Dean Hubbert of Fox News in South Bend reporting ND offered Shanahan 3.5 mil a year. Very exciting for the Irish if true. Hope so.

Where the hell are they getting the money from ?I've seen $10 million mentioned as the annual fee to ND for the TV deal.

Desnudo

But that would only leave $7 million for the players.

Say what you will about big-time programs generally, and I'm sure some stuff goes on here too, but the players graduate.

More of a general joke than a dig at ND. I apologize if I offended.

Honestly guys,

I'm finishing up my next to last semester here. Our football team dissapoints us every year. Our biggest recruit just de-committed from us. Our basketball team had some decent expectations this season, and we open up on the road with a nice victory against Charlotte. The next week, we lose games at home against Penn St. and @ Princeton.

FOFC is my one "happy place." Please let me enjoy it.

EDIT: The ironic thing is that if we had the season everyone was expecting us to have (6 wins should've been easy, 7-8 would've been possible with our schedule), there's no doubt in my mind that Schiano would be a leading candidate for all these jobs (ND, Florida, etc.)

Ok, for those interested: ND forum on BlueandGold.com has poster stating Denver radio 950 am states Shanahan was offered a 5 yr contract and that is (they say) FACT! Shanahan then reportedly canceled an interview with 950 for the first time. This story ain't dead yet folks! Domers keep hoping! Shanahan is an Irish Chicago guy.

Double hearsay may not be the most reliable newsource.

Denver Post reported this as its top sports story yesterday. Apparently Shanahan IS claiming this story is dead, as long as he is not fired by the Broncos. So that would be the caveat. Be interesting to see how strongly ND courts a head coach up until the time its determined weather or not Broncos make the playoffs.

Sources now reporting Weiss was offered the job, wants the job, and will be announced as early as tomorrow. So much for Shanahan.

If I remembered correctly, Bill called the plays while Weiss was hospitalized from complications from stomach surgery. I would assume that he would be calling them.

Weiss will stay even if he takes the job. Mort said today that he'll be given one day a week for recruiting (probably a Friday).

Because they'd all be idiots ;). Terry Shea is now the offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears... coincidentally, they suck ass ;).
