I have seen a few posts/threads now mention the fact that to get from itunes proprietary format to mp3s you have to burn a CD and then rip the songs back off the CD as mp3s.

As I learned when Oliegirl asked me for help with our wedding CD, this isn't true.

1) go here: http://www.hymn-project.org/ or more specifically here: http://www.hymn-project.org/download.php to get straight to the download page.

2) Download whatever version you need for your system. For most that would likely currently be hymn-0.7.1.zip (that's for a windows system).

The program runs from the command line, for my purposes I just had a few songs to convert so I just stuck them in the same directory and ran the script and was done.

3) IIRC, running this gets your .m4p files convereted to .m4a. That gets rid of whatever proprietary bullshit itunes uses. If you are interested in mp3s, I used: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm

4) you have to download the mp4 codec for dbpoweramp here: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/codec-central.htm

That program is extremely easy to use and gets everying in nice friendly mp3 format for me.

If you ahve huge directory structures to maintain and such then you can search the forums for a way to script it. Regardless, for most I assume this is a much better way to do things than burning CDs/ripping them back.

Better to put it in WMA formet. MP3 is far inferior than WMA or Apple's AAC in digital music.

Will my MP3 player in my truck play WMA or AAC files?

If it's from Apple, it'll only play AAC files. If it is anything else, it'll probably play WMA files (it should).
