I've gotten a handful of customer support questions about this - all in the last couple of months - and I was wondering if anyone here had run into it and/or solved it.

What happens is that you click on FOF and nothing happens. Just an hourglass wait icon for a fraction of a second, then nothing. You're able to license and unlicense, you're also able to run the file generator utilities.

I've been talking to ViaTech about this, and they're getting this on many of their products. I think it's related to their software wrapper and something in the XP service packs.

If you've run into this, could you tell me the following:

1) Operating system, including any installed Service Packs (1 or 2 with XP).
2) CPU (Intel or Athlon, Pentium or Celeron, speed, etc).
3) Is this a laptop?
4) Were you able to solve this problem, and if so, what did you do?

thanks

Jim, we've had similar issues with TPB2005 and WreSpi. We've found that it is independent of CPU or XP service pack. One guy had a virus that locked one of the files needed by Viatech in order to start the app and we are still investigating the other. I will send you a PM when I get to my home PC with some info on the virus situation.

Jim,
I have been experiencing this problem, and in fact, I posted here about it a couple of days before you posted this. I got some replies, but nothing seemed to help. So, here is my info, and if you find the root or cause, please tell me.

1. XP Home Edition with SP2
2. Pentium 3 2.00
3. Desktop
4. Not able, some advice in my thread here http://dynamic5.gamespy.com/~fof/forums/showthread.php?p=646788#post646788

Thanks

I remember seeing stuff like that in OOTP - people would go into their msconfig to clean stuff up and would inadvertently stop the viatech license control app from running at startup (licctrl or something like that), and then the program would just simply hang like Jim described.

DD, that's very helpful. I was able to recreate the problem exactly as it's reported. I wonder if some of the spyware removers are disabling the LicCtrl because it has an "unknown" manufacturer? I'll add that to the FAQ.

First, thanks to DD. Second, Jim, that was what was causing my problem. Thanks to all who helped me solve it.

0,001 actual on-topic, helpful post.

not a bad ratio for me, really.
