People To People - Sports Ambassador Program

Does anyone have any experience with this program? My son received the intial letter today and I'm wondering what lies ahead. The letter says 'you are eligible to apply'. That tells me there is some sort of selection process involved. We have a meeting about this in January, but I'm to excited to wait another month. If you have any details, please share them with me. I participated in the regular People to People program in the summer of 2001 (right after my Junior year of HS), when I went to Australia for about 3 weeks, and I would definately recommend the program. I did get invited the year after for the Sports Ambassadors (i'm not sure that's what it was) to go play golf for a couple weeks in Ireland and Scotland, but I couldn't do it, which really sucked.

The process you described sounds exactly the same as what I had to go through when I went to Australia, got the letter, inviting me to the meeting. I was unsure about going before the meeting, but right after I left the meeting, I went straight home, put down the deposit, and was excited to go. About three weeks later, I had an interview with the people who would be the chaperones of the trip, and about a week later, I was contacted that I was allowed to go (I believe the interviews were just to catch any troublemaker kids from going, lol. (even though we all did get into some trouble, but that's a story for another day) Our group consisted of about 40 people, and we had monthly meetings in Feb, March, Apr, May and June, before we left at the end of June.

Again, it was the best time of my life, practically all of my friends today (besides my college ones) are somehow related to that trip (i.e. friend of someone I met on the trip, ect.) I would definately recommend the program, and I hope your son has an even better time than I did.

EDIT: I just went to the link, and it is the same program (People to People) and it was through the Sports Ambassadors that I was invited to golf.
