Is there a p2p software out there that doesnt have spyware or adware or the worst new.net? Id even be willing to pay $30 or so if it were popular to get away from that crap, but i miss being able to DL music....GF wanted me to burn her a cD for Xmas with all of these different songs from all sorts of different artists but, well, here we are.

i haven't had any spyware problems with winmx. Only thing is it's a pain in the ass to download sometimes because the queues take forever.

There is a free P2P called Shareaza that is really good and doesn't contain any spyware.

Be careful not to get Shareza because it's the same program, but it cost money.

I use eMule and it's a nice little opensource p2p client without the junk.

Screw p2p. If your talking music, just use bittorent at suprnova.org Download whole albums...of course you can only do this if you legally already own a copy. of the cd ;)

Shareaza uses eDonkey as one of its networks. It also uses Gnutella1 and Gnutella2, I believe.

I tried it, but it was a bit of a pain having to switch servers constantly to find stuff. Unless I was doing something wrong.

I like eMule for old stuff, bittorrent for the new releases. Bittorrent is faster but it's hard to find old stuff with it as ppl usually download and then delete it so fast. In emule the users don't delete as fast the downloaded files as it uses a credit system, the more you let others to download from you, the faster you will download from them.

That is true about older stuff on bittroent. It sucks.

DC++

know any good private hubs?

DC++ is my fave as well. not very user friendly (although if you can keep all those abbreviations straight in your head, you can probably figure it out). Terrific for...well, anything.

Shareaza is good for single music files.

I also highly recommend Soulseek, which WOULD be my favorite, but it was a little buggy in the way it interacted with my router. But, if it wasn't for that, that would be the one I use. Awesome for full CDs.

i'll second (or third) eMule, it works great for me and i've never had any problem finding whatever i needed. I usually just set it up to run over night and it takes care of business sometime the next day

Hmm, not sure..I assumed it checked through all the server, but to be honest I haven't messed with it much at all. Not a big P2P guy.

Worked when I needed it though. Try to use torrents if at all possible though as it's about 100x faster, but not always an option of course.

Great info. Thanks everybody. I have some CDs that I wanted to download copies of instead of spending the time burning them.

I was joking. You gotta watch what you say (or type) when the recording industry is watching. Shhhhh.
