View Full Version : I don't very much like the CBS announcers

The late hit on Big Ben was nothing like the "late hit" on Barber... at least in my eyes.

You're right it was a terrible call. Barber had much more of an argument.

I'm shocked there wasn't a flag there. Big Ben got sacked and all, apparently that's not allowed.

No no, that wasn't my point at all.
Troy kind of threw Tiki to the ground.. but lightly. Alexander, on the other hand, drove Ben to the ground after the whistle. And you know refs are supposed to protect QBs in any way possible. I thought this was a perfect case of that. Ben could have gotten injured on that (the sack was already registered, no need to drive Ben to the ground and fall on him), but there was no chance Tiki could have gotten injured on the no-call.

 He fell on Big Ben so fucking lightly it was unbelievable. That's a no call. Troy threw Tiki to the ground 4 or 5 yards off the field. There is a difference and Tiki should have gotten the call if either of them did.
Edit: Plus they got a touchdown out of the drive and it should have ended there.

I'm sick of the over-protection of the QB. It's really ridiculous.

Should be 14-10 at the half. Now its 20-14 because Big Ben had a guy land on him when he got sacked. God forbid you end up on the ground on a sack.

I think the QB should be protected more than other players.
I disagree with this. If they aren't going to be treated like a normal player, why even allow people to tackle them? How about two-hand touch for the QB, and tackle for everyone else?

The driving to the ground looked bad to me. Maybe I am mistaken on the amount of force, but it looked like Alexander really drove him to the ground. And the Tiki thing wasn't really a throw to the ground, just a throw away from Polamalu.
I enjoy looking at good hits in football, but I think the QB should be protected more than other players.

The whistle blew and there were 3 Giants on Ben, it looked like the two that had him from the sides let go and celebrated and Alexander just fell on him. Such a pussy call. I'm still so pissed.

If this happened to the RB, WR, TE, etc. etc. I'd say let it go as a no-call (like Barber's). However, since it was the QB, I think the call was right.
I don't think many people will agree with me on giving the QB special privileges, but that's how I feel about it.

Yeah, that 5'-11" 200-pound "monster" safety Alexander really hammered that 6'-5" 241-pound stick-figure QB into the ground http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/%7Efof/forums/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif Alexander should have let go, but there was no way he drove him into anything. My guess is Alexander was off balance and couldn't stop. If you look at the replay, the other two guys in on the sack let go on the whistle and Roethlisberger and Alexander just sort of fell over now that they weren't being held up any more. Alexander was stuck going along for the ride.
And the Tiki thing wasn't really a throw to the ground, just a throw away from Polamalu.
Still should be a penalty. You stop and let go, you don't fling him away. Flinging him away 5 yards out of bounds is a penalty. I'm not going to blame the refs in this case, though, as they were likely shielded from view.

the giants dbacks on the other hand...not going to be fine. I don't care if Big Ben has thrown 2 picks...Coughlin needs to put them all out on the street after this game. I mean, it can't get much worse, can it?

Yeah. I don't think I understand that. If you don't go for 2, presumably you're up by 5 instead of 4. Then if the Steelers score...a FG for you could win the game. If you go for 2 and get it...a FG for you still wins the game (by 2 instead of 1 though). By going for 2 and failing...a FG will only tie it. How does that make any sense??

well, the FG will win slightly more than half the time. steelers can go for two also you know.....which makes going for two by the giants the right call.

Not Eli's fault. I'm just happy he's had some success today. He can build off this game.
Eli surprised me. After his performance last week, I figured the Steelers would eat him alive. He played a good game.
Big Ben, however, is still the better 1st round pick :D

I think Eli proved to me he would be at least equal to Ben if he was with the Steelers. I don't see how you could possibly think he was the better pick, the talent level between the teams is so enormous its appalling.

Eli had one good half. Ben has had numerous great games. I don't know much about the Giants, so I can't say how Ben would do in that job. But Eli isn't 12-0 if he's the Steelers QB right now. No way. Today was the first time Eli responded well to adversity this season, after 4 games of jitters and rookie mistakes. Ben has been poised all year. Eli steps in and starts for the Steelers in week 3, he makes too many mistakes and the Steelers don't pull out 12 in a row.
Ben is better, hands down. Ernie Acorsi will realize that someday.

I'm sure the line, recievers, and running backs of Pitt have nothing to do with his success, they're all miles better than what the Giants have.

I haven't watched Eli enough to tell how he acts, but when you watch Roethlisberger (I have seen most of his games), you can see that he doesn't panic, lose his cool, or make too many mistakes.
There's a reason why people are applauding him, and it's not just because his team his 12-0 since he's taken over.
Somewhere down the line, Eli can become a better QB. I don't see Ben as a league-leading QB, but I do see him as a solid QB that is cool under pressure. I was impressed by Manning's play today, but he still has a ways to go before he's equal to what Ben is right now.
