forward lateral?

I know I'm the only one watching the redskins and 49ers, but I just watched that replay about 20 times, and each time it looked like a legal lateral. Am I the only one?

I was listening on the radio, and they indicated that it was a handoff, and added that a forward handoff was a forward lateral. That agrees with what I actually thought the rule was, but I wouldn't have argued too hard. I still haven't seen the play, but I'm looking for it.

The rule is:

if the ball is handed between players without getting 'air' then its always a hand off and the play is a run.

if the ball is thrown in any way (there is a point when neither player is touching it) then the rule is:

if the player recieves the ball paralell or behind when it left the other player's hands, then it is a run.

if the player recieves the ball in front of where it left the previous player's hand, then that is a pass.

this rule is why the QB can pass the ball slightly behind him on a screen and it still counts as a run. Its also the reason that a pass to a screen (again slightly behind ) can be ruled a fumble if the player doesn't catch it - cause its considered a hand off / run play

The guy he was going to hand it off to was behind him, but he got hit and fell and the guy that ended up with the ball was ahead of him. I think it was the right call though
