Stupid Question.

I have a stupid computer problem that I can't seem to figure out. I was downloading a file with Mozilla and my pop-up blocker decided to block the little window that opens to show you what has been and what's being downloaded. Now, I cannot for the life of me delete the file, when I try to delete it I get the error message "cannot delete: it is being used by another person or program. close any programs that might be using the file and try again." Well I've tried everything I can think of, Norton Anti-Virus, I've checked my task manager and even rebooted completely but no dice. Any idea why this damned file isn't getting deleted? Thanks, and sorry for my stupidity. :mad:

Well I've tried everything I can think of, Norton Anti-Virus, I've checked my task manager and even rebooted completely but no dice. :mad:

No, actually it was my league file for an ootp 6 leage. But the download looks like the little blank white screen like it's not completely finished and I can't use it or delete it. And it's sitting there on my desktop and pissing me off.

Reboot in safe mode with a command prompt so it doesn't load windows, cd to the directory where the file is located and delete it manually using good ol' dos commands.

If you're using firefox (probably mozilla too), try going go to tools>downloads and delete all the files in the download manager. Also try going to tools>options and clearing the cache.

Unfortunatley I'm not old school enough to know how to do this :(

If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power
Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
When you are finished with all troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.


I haven't worked in safe mode in quite some time, but once your pc is loaded up in safe mode, see if you can delete the file. For some reason, I'm not sure you can delete files in safe mode, but it's worth a try.

Try quarantining the file with virus protector, then delete it. I've done this before when I've been in a similar situation.
