I have a wild, wild last 24 hours.

It all started yesterday when I was supposed to go to work at about 130p. Supposed to ride to Islip, NY then stay overnight and work today. I found out as soon as I got there that the flight had been cancelled. So being a dedicated employee I called our schedulers. I got thorough pretty quick, which was amazing since they are still trying to recover from rescheduling after the snowstorm messed everything up. I was put on hold  for an hour, and after that found that they had a Austin, TX out-and-back. HEY! I might be home Christmas Eve night! This could be good. That flight leaves in 90 minutes. Alas, there is no aircraft available for this flight and it cancels too:mad:.

Soon the Chief Pilot comes out and yells that he needs a crew for a specific flight and the Captain that I was flying with and I go. I end up getting scheduled for a flight to Syracuse, NY, then to Atlanta then to Buffalo.

We leave about 5-530p and make it to SYR ok. Hear news about bad weather in Buffalo though, and it makes me wonder if we are going to get there or not. The flight to ATL had 200mph headwinds and it took almost 30 minutes longer than normal to get there. We find out that Buffalo is cancelled. The plane is supposed to go to Akron, but noone is there to pick it up. The gate agent says that she was told we were taking it and that we had to call scheduling. Well, scheduling wasn't answering their phones:mad: and we ended up going to a hotel in ATL on information from the Chief Pilot. It sucked having to walk by 70 people :( who were waiting until 1030pm for that flight only to find out that they were not going to go. :(

I felt terrible. It was about midnight by the time I got to the hotel, went to bed by 0130a and up at 0600a. At about 0645a I talked with the Captain I was working with and he informed me that we had a massive failure of the scheduling computer and that we wern't going anywhere for at least 2-3 days.  That computer manages employees, planes, routes, and NOT reservations. So, with my family and 3 kids waiting for me to get home I took matters into my own hands. I was going to get home (after breakfast :D )somehow!

I am supposed to be off work for the rest of the month after today. I decided that work wasn't going to find me for 2 days at least so I went to the airport. At the airport, in uniform, I got all sorts of looks, from sympathetic, to helpless (please fly our plane), to out and out hatred. All flights into Cincy and the surrounding area appeared to be way oversold. So I looked into a flight to Knoxville, TN. In the meantime there was a Lexington, KY flight that was boarding and I found out that there were seats available. :) :)

I made a phone call to my family, and someone met me in Lexington, even though they were prepared to drive to Knoxville to get me.

And now I am finally home. :D

Merry Christmas! And I really hope you got to be with your families too. We are going to open presents tomarrow. Home never felt so good.:D
