View Full Version : I Hate Mike Shanahan...

This guys does just enough to keep his job. Never has a guy made riding John Elway's arm and Terrell Davis's legs last as long as this guy.

Not surprisingly, Shanahan might cost me my fantasy football championship this year, as his screwed up gameday decisions again defy any logic or consistency.

This season is the perfect example, although Shanahan has been doing this skill position lottery for years now. Remember who was supposed to start at RB this season? Quentin Griffin. Remember him? Of course, it took Shanahan all training camp and preseason to announce this, despite the fact that everything from coventional logic to past history to preseason performance and percentage of plays suggested Griffin would be the guy.

This lasted a couple weeks, until Griffin got hurt. So the Broncos turned not to high profile draft pick Tatum Bell or veteran insurance Garrison Hearst, but to the heretofore unknown (or at least unconsidered) Reuben Droughs. Who knows what would have happened if Mike Anderson didn't hurt himself in the preseason (on a pointless special teams play, BTW, that he shouldn't have even been on the field for, but Shanahan sent him out there anyway).

So Droughns does well, staving off the return of Griffin (who, I think, is now on the IR), and us fantasy football fans pick him up with more confidence (including myself).

So Droughns enters this period of games around the midpoint where the Broncos aren't using him for touchdowns (or any backs), but allowing Plummer to pass for them. It's maddening--Droughsn would carry the Broncos on his back down the field, and then Shanahan would have Plummer get the credit. As a Droughns owner, it was very frustrating.

Then in the past few weeks, Droughns doesn't do as well because defenses are focusing on him (despite his not scoring, they can see the gametape). So the wishy-washy Shanahan rather quickly phases him out, using Tatum Bell more. Note Bell isn't anymore effective, not that Shanahan would know it if it bit him on the ass.

After another supbar, scoreless day splitting carries with Bell last week, Droughns doesn't look like such a good start now, so I don't start him, going with Pittman and Portis instead. And what does ole Shanny do? Focus his entire offense around Droughns yesterday. I see 25+ FP go down the "bench drain", while Portis gets hurt in the WAS-DAL game and Pittman gets ignored in a pass-happy TB game.

Ugh. I....hate....Mike Shanahan. Please, Buffalo, win next week and ensure these guys are on the outside looking in, so Denver management will finalyl get this guy out of the coaching ranks. He has been killing ym fantasy teams for years now.

Stop picking Denver players.

Stop picking Denver players.

Sometimes you don't have a choice. For instance, if your running backs are hitting a bad stretch or you have byes coming up, how can you not pick up the Denver back that just scored two TDs and got 150 yards? If you don't, someone else will and then beat you with them (has happened to me before).

I didn't draft Droughns or any Denver RB in my leagues, but I still ended up with him.

Also, this isn't just when I have Denver players. This is also when I am facing other teams with Denver players, and neither I nor the guy who actually has a Denver player has any idea who is going for his team in a given week (have to wait for the late week "Shanahan" reports, which sometimes don't update until gametime).

All I am asking is for the league's second most overrated coach (after Martz) to actually some logic and have some consistency with his starters. His indecisiveness isn't helping his team (they have been on the edge of playoff respectability but mediocrity ever since Elway retired), his fans aren't likely happy with his team's up-and-down performance either, his players certainly can't be happy at playing well and yet still getting yanked, and he regularly pisses off the fantasy football community.

I really just want to see him finally out on his arse. Even changing his ways ain't enough anymore.

Why do you think he got fired from the Raiders? :)

Why do you think he got fired from the Raiders? :)

Because he couldn't decide between Bo and Marcus? :)
