Mack Brown to get raise at Texas

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- With Texas preparing for its first Rose Bowl, coach Mack Brown is in line for a raise.

Brown already is one of college football's highest-paid coaches with a salary of slightly more than $2 million a year. Athletic director DeLoss Dodds told The Associated Press on Monday that details of the new contract will be announced during the week.

``We like what we've got,'' Dodds said. ``He's done a wonderful job with the program.''

Brown declined to discuss details of his pending contract extension but said he was ``excited about the talks.''

``We haven't yet accomplished everything we've wanted to here,'' Brown said at a Rose Bowl ceremony for the two teams at Disneyland. ``There's no better place to coach than the University of Texas.''

Although Brown has been criticized for a five-game losing streak to Big 12 South rival Oklahoma, Texas (10-1) has won at least 10 games the last four seasons and has become a Top 10 fixture in the rankings during his seven years.

The Rose Bowl will be Texas' first appearance in a Bowl Championship Series game. The Longhorns meet No. 13 Michigan (9-2) on Jan. 1.

if he fires greg davis, its a freakin bargain. if greg stays 10 extra years, too, then its a bigger waste of money than alexander was.

i can only hope that the defensive turnaround under greg robinson (reason number 5,234,523 fans and sportswriters are fucking morons as a whole, this guy was a godsend) has opened macks eyes that not every coordinator change is bad, like he used to think. we went from a fringe top 50 defense last year (performance wise, i have no idea what the actual numbers are) to top 10 if not top 3 or 4 right now

everything is here that needs to be here for a run at the title, except a competent OC. we don't need mike martz, a mike mularky will do. but unfortunately its a make or break decision about mack's best friend. next year ou loses a ton and ut doesn't, so now is the time to make that move

Nothing. I think they play Ohio State next season (I forget) so the only hope is getting swept by OU, A&M and Ohio State or 2 of the 3 and getting beat by someone else.

That's my feeling about next year's squad. They will have just too much inexperience at quarterback, offensive line, and the secondary for them to beat the Longhorns six straight times. I'll be happy with a 9-3 season.
