NEW PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE FORMING
A group of 32 wealthy individuals today announced the formation of the Superstar Football Association. League spokesman Larry Montana said that the league will play in the spring time and is not meant to compete with the National Football League. The new league will not be attempting to sign current or former NFL players. Play will begin with the 2004 season which will allow time for the league office and each individual team to get organized. The league scouting service will be contacting semipro players and holding open tryouts over the next year and then hold an initial allocation draft of players. The league will operate with a salary cap tied to revenues and have 53 player rosters (46 active). As a cost cutting measure, each team coaching staff will be limited to a head coach, an offensive coordinator and a defensive coordinator. Teams will be announced within the next 3 months.

MIAMI AMIGOS NAME GENERAL MANAGER
Miami Amigos owner Gary Beckerman today announced that Ryan “Laser” Patrick would be the teams General Manager. Although unknown in South Florida, Patrick is a legend in Central Florida, having led the Lakeside Lasers to 20 state high school championships in the past 25 years. Patrick had been offered numerous college and NFL General Manager and Head Coaching opportunities over the past 10 years but always decided to stay at the high school level. Patrick said that the opportunity to build a pro team from the ground up in the new professional football league was a challenge that he could not pass up. Patrick said that he would begin interviews for a scout and a coaching staff immediately

MIAMI AMIGOS NAME SCOUT AND HEAD COACH
Miami Amigos General Manager Ryan “Laser” Patrick today announced the hiring of Deion Sisson to the position of scout and Chris Schour to the position of head coach. Sisson is 40 years old and was given a 1 year contract at $230,000 per season. He is considered to be very good at scouting offensive lineman and linebackers, good at scouting quarterbacks, running backs, receivers, and secondary, average at scouting young talent, and fair at scouting defensive linemen and kickers. Schour is 55 years old and was given a 2 year contract at $2,450,000 per season. He is considered average at motivation, excellent at discipline, average with offensive play calling, excellent with defensive play calling, and excellent at avoiding injuries. He is also considered excellent at developing with young talent, very good at working with quarterbacks and kickers, good at working with running backs, average at working with receivers, offensive linemen, defensive linemen, and secondary, and fair at working with linebackers. Schour will also assist with the interviewing of the teams offensive and defensive coordinators.

Gray is 45 years old and was given a 5 year contract at $2,020,000 per season. He is considered to be fair at offensive play calling, average in motivation and avoiding injuries, and poor in discipline. He is considered to be very good at developing young talent and offensive linemen, good at developing quarterbacks, running backs, and kickers, and average at developing wide receivers. Farrell is 64 years old and was given a 1 year contract at $1,280,000. He is considered excellent at defensive play calling, good at avoiding injuries, average in motivation, and fair at discipline. He is considered excellent in developing linebackers and secondary, very good at developing defensive linemen, good at developing kickers, and average at developing young talent.

SUPERSTAR FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION ALLOCATION DRAFT
The Superstar Football Association held its allocation draft. The draft was 53 rounds, done in a “snake” format. The Miami Amigos drafted 8th in odd numbered rounds, and 25th in even numbered rounds. General Manager Ryan “Laser” Patrick said that the goal over the first 6 rounds was to draft top players at quarterback, running back, wide receiver, offensive tackle, cornerback, and a pass rusher. The Miami Amigos selections as announced by General Manager Ryan “Laser” Patrick:

Round 1, Pick 8 – RB Lawrence Rocha (78 current, 83 potential, age 25) – Top RB in the league. Great power runner with breakaway speed and a good pass receiver.

2(25) – QB Quinn Stauder (49-61, 30) – Good short passer, avoids interceptions, good sense of pass rush.

3(8) – OT Bernie Budd (58-74, 30) – Good pass blocker and good blocking strength. Has good potential for run blocking also.

4(25) – CB Albert Blackburn (72-74, 27) – Number 3 rated CB in the league. Good at man to man or zone. Will get interceptions.

5(8) – WR Reuben Keith (89-89, 27) – Top rated WR in the league. Does not fumble or drop the ball. Great big play receiver.

6(25) – DT Ben Sims (59-60, 31) – Punishing hitter. Great pass rush strength. Good run defense.

21(8) – P Jesse Hammond (95-95, 26) – Early round pick for a punter, but as with kicker Paul Branch, Hammond is by far the top rated P in the league. Excellent punt hang time, kicking power, and directional punting.

22(25) – DT Orlando Wayne (34-44, 31) – Good pass rush technique and play diagnosis. Weak at run defense.

23(8) – DE Daryl Slusarczyk (37-40, 29) – Punishing hitter. Good pass rush strength, but very weak pass rushing technique. Good at play diagnosis.

24(25) – CB Ken Quinn (41-45, 27) – Very good at play diagnosis. Very good at man to man defense.

25(8) – OG Dwayne Hardesty (34-35, 28) – Best available offensive guard left. Good blocking strength, but weak at pass blocking and run blocking.

26(25) – RB Gabe Berry (43-51, 22) – Excellent breakaway speed and 3rd down runner. Also an excellent kickoff returner.

30(25) – WR Alvin Schneider (31-35, 28) – Will be the 3rd wide receiver. Big play receiver. Good at holding onto the ball. Weak route runner.

31(8) – QB Brett Sampson (17-68, 22) – A pick for the future. Should be excellent at screen passes, medium, long, and deep passes, and avoiding interceptions. Passing accuracy should be good.

33(8) – S Ricky Austin (41-43, 27) – Punishing hitter. Good play diagnosis. Also good at bump and run defense and returning punts.

MIAMI AMIGOS SIGN FREE AGENTS
Miami Amigos General Manager Ryan “Laser” Patrick today announced that the Amigos signed seven free agents in order to bring 60 players to training camp. None of the seven are expected to make the 53 player roster. The seven free agents are:

RB Herman Kotomski (20-38, 21) – Good 3rd down runner who has the potential to be a good receiver out of the backfield.

WR Dusty Shapiro (15-30, 21), - Has some courage and the potential to contribute as a kick returner in the future.

OT Corwin Roose (16-27, 23) – Good blocking strength. Very weak at pass blocking and run blocking.

OG Ronald Eccles (19-48, 21) – Good blocking strength. Has the potential to be a good pass blocker.

DE Cory Davidson (15-33, 23) – Strong personality in the clubhouse who shows leadership.

OLB Carlos Sawyer (15-36, 21) – Has the potential to contribute on special teams and also be good at run defense.

CB Patrick Villalobos (15-32, 22) – Punishing hitter who can get interceptions. Weak in pass coverage.

WEEK 1: BYE

WEEK 2: Away vs. Washington Ambassadors. WON 24-14 (1-0). QB Quinn Stauder was the Game MVP going 10 for 20 for 109 yards and a touchdown. RB J.J. Schulz rushed 15 times for 62 yards. OT Kenyon Rodriguez had 4 key run blocks prior to getting injured. Rodriguez is expected to miss 3 weeks. OLB Antoine Salley led the defense with 7 tackles.

WEEK 3: Home vs. Buffalo Cougars. WON 21-0 (2-0). DE Charlie Terrell was the game MVP with 4 tackles and 2 sacks. Walt Shea was 12 of 13 passing for 90 yards and 1 touchdown. RB J.J. Schulz ran 23 times for 76 yards. WR Reuben Keith was the leading receiver with 4 catches for 35 yards and a touchdown. P Jesse Hammond had 5 punts for a 45.6 average. 2 of his punts were inside the 20 yard line. TE Ben Seals and OG Dwayne Hardesty each had 4 key run blocks.

WEEK 4: Home vs. New York Bombers. WON 31-20 (3-0). WR Reuben Keith was the game MVP with 9 receptions for 175 yards and 2 touchdowns. WR Lenny Lin also contributed 6 catches for 69 yards. QB Quinn Stauder completed 16 of 29 passes for 235 yards and 2 touchdowns. RB J.J. Schulz ran 12 times for 42 yards and a touchdown. S Dustin Small led the defense with 6 tackles and an assist.

WEEK 5: Away vs. Detroit Motors. WON 12-7 (4-0). K Paul Branch was the total offense for the Amigos, and he was the game MVP. Branch was 4 for 4 on field goals, hitting from 51, 38, 54, and 34 yards. QB Quinn Stauder completed 10 of 16 passes for 102 yards. WR Lenny Lin had 4 receptions for 46 yards. RB J.J. Schulz rushed 9 times for 38 yards. On defense, LB Antoine Salley led the way with 7 tackles, 3 assists, and a sack. DT Orlando Wayne had 2 sacks and 2 tackles. The Motors did manage to sack Amigo quarterbacks 5 times, with OG Dwayne Hardesty allowing 2 of the sacks.

RB Herman Kotomski, WR Dusty Shapiro, OT Corwin Roose, DE Cory Davidson, OLB Carlos Sawyer, CB Patrick Villalobos, and CB Darrin Lane. All of the players released were free agents with the exception of Lane who was drafted in the 52nd round. The lone free agent to make the 53 man roster was OG Ronald Eccles.
