View Full Version : Crap to buy for my house

Flasch186

Alright, Ive calmed down a bit so Im going to try to start this dynasty again. The idea is that I have to buy stuff for a house, a whole house, my first house. There are certain splurges I want, these are specifically for my enjoyment and they are:

TV for Family room ($3000)
TV for Master Bedroom ($2500 - flat panel)
TV for BR#4 (1500-2000 - Flat panel)
Hot tub (4 person)
Gazebo
TV for gazebo (weather resistant)

THATS IT

But there are many more things that I, my GF, 3R, and C need but I have no idea what these might be so perhaps people that have already made these purchases can lend a helping hand (thank you Farrah) but I can tell you what we already have:

all the kitchen appliances
master bedroom bed
computer and wireless router
XBOX
GF has a gamecube
Mitre Saw
Water softener
Fence
2 big trash cans
good poker chips
blinds
towels
1ceiling fan for the FR
tea maker
fajita maker
dog stuff
playing cards
board games
clothes washer and dryer

We are open to anything else you all might suggest. I will post pictures, links, prices, etc. on here and keep it up. I know we have to check out La-Z-Boy for furniture as we want to get new FR furniture. We like that Viva Suede stuff.

Anyways, its not vanity, or gluttony. Some of the stuff is splurges but its my splurges. We have no kids so this is ok for now. The key word for this is:

VALUE

I dont want to spend top dollar if something cheaper is only negligably less in quality.

Sorry I was so senstive before....I think this could be fun....Ill bump it to get it started again.

I want a disco ball in my room, Uncle Hatcher. I'll take BR #2 as I don't want the garage doors to bother me while I'm sleeping the majority of the day.

Flasch - what is your preferred style of furniture? Are you more of a modern/contemporary guy? Do you like funky and bright (think Real World sets) Or are you looking for something that you can keep for a long time, that will never go out of style?

i like simple but GF like's kind of a wood trim. I like silver and she likes an antique brass look. Ive battled for this and we have ended up with more silver than brass so thats good. We found this place called Sofa Express and this material called Viva suede. I guess it feels like suede but isnt so we can get it on the couches and not have the dog hair ruin them Plus theyre very resistant to scratching. We are leaning heavily towards those but Im nervous to pull the trigger and may have to purchase these pieces in seperate pieces as opposed to a package. I want to keep them for a long time but value is the key. Im willing to pay more but only if it lasts substantially longer.

Sov. youll have to sleep with C to be in BR#2 unless she bows to the pressure and moves out.

I'd suggest checking out LazyBoy galleries. They carry sofas and chairs not just recliners. They have a nice selection of differnet styles, a large selection of fabrics and they give you free cookies while you're browsing. :) They offer custom sofa design, so you can't just pick a sofa up that day. I think it takes about 6 weeks. But you have the luxury of selecting the fill power for the cushions, the arm style, the feet style, the fabric etc. so you get just what you want.

I find they are reasonably priced for the quality. All their items come with a lifetime warranty. Also try Bassett and Thomasville. They offer the same services for around the same price.

I'd also check out Ikea. While they are more on the funky side, their sofas are relatively simple with clean lines. I have my eye on the slip covered one for our loft at home.

One more question - are you planning on marrying this GF? Because if you're not, get the furniture YOU want. It's your house, and your cash. :)

My wife, who handles all issues here pertaining to decoration (except the one room I still maintain an illusion of control over) adds the following:
1) For both comfort & durability, she recommended looking into something called "mohair velvet" for the couch. She's not familiar with this "viva suede" you mentioned, but said this sounded like the same sort of thing. Also, she spoke well of anything that comes in the new washable suede (I think that might be just clothes, not furniture, but who knows)

2) For numerous pieces from a single location, she suggested shopping with Nordstrom's (or whatever high-end "mall anchor" is applicable) or a similar store with a high-end furniture department. Once there, find a salesperson who is also an interior design specialist and see how much help they can provide. My own sidenote for that advice is that you can often learn quite a bit from those type places, even if you later buy the same item elsewhere at lower cost.

I'll assume Jax has a boatload of furniture stores. Make a habit of going to all of them and checking out their clearance sections regularly. Also make sure you run through the rest of the store, because some of them put clearance items and special buys in with everything else. We built our house in 2003, and by not rushing into anything, were able to find good stuff at much better prices than the normal retail. Sometimes you'll even find identical sets in clearance to something on the floor. With furniture, it's pretty easy to see if there's something wrong. We found a nice oak dining set, where one of the chairs and one of the removable table leafs had one minor scratch each (you have to look real hard to see anything). The same set was new for $1100 (on sale), and we paid either $599 or $699. We also bought a leather couch, chair and ottoman, and some other oak pieces for significant discounts this way. If you're patient, and are willing to shop around, you can save a lot of money, and still find what you're looking for.

Aren't you the least bit ashamed of your gluttony? Are you sure 4 tv's is enough?

I sell new houses in a boom town. I am a glutton for TV's and movies. I figure there are only a few splurges Im going to be able to buy for the next 10-15 years...while the income is good. These are TV's, hot tub and bed, you actually picked out my only "splurges". Once thats over Ill be buying cheaply.....as usual.

Now if you ask GF Im a cheap bastard. I rarely spend a lot of money on anything. So far my big purchases have been my appliances: ALL GE Profile SS stuff BUT, big BUT here, I wouldve never bought that stuff if i didnt get it at cost. I got over 10000 worth of appliances for like 5400. SO I told GF we'd buy it BUT take it to our next home and maybe even the one after that. We'll just have to go buy minimums to put in when we sell the house to have something to offer the next people.

In the same vein, we'll be keeping the furniture, TVs, and pretty much all of the above stuff until it wont work anymore.

Most realtors or people in this city buy new cars when they get their checks as this city is pretty spread out and they view their car as an extension of their success. Not me, my Jeep has 80K+ miles and Im driving it for a long time more, or until the maintenance outweighs the cost of a new one.

I guess you could say as of now, since I dont have kids, I want to spend a little on myself before it all starts going towards the really important stuff like kids, education, doctor's bills, etc.

Vain? perhaps, but I have it in perspective.....

Now, what TV's should I get?
:D

no worries, let it go, I have a few things that are splurges in my life and thats what i want, will get, and will enjoy, but since some think its vain, and I cant use all of the vast knowledge and resources to help me get good stuff, of good value, then screw me. I see other people ask about one or two things all the time, but i have a whole house to do so I thought it would be a fun dynasty. Perhaps SI should do a search for my posts and then tell me if you think Im vain or not a nice person.....then I would say you dont know me very well.

If Flasch has the money and wants something, more power to him. sorry all. looked like my question sparked a firestorm. I honestly didn't intend that, I was really just curious as to what type of occupation he had that allowed him to spend that much. If anything I was a little jealous, cuz I know I'll never be able to do that since I am going to go into teaching. Hey...if people have the money to spend on that type of stuff, more power to them. I don't begrudge them that at all. Was just honestly curious that's all.

Not to threadjack, but I think the two really only ways to be financially well off is to: work for yourself, or live below your means, and invest wisely. But it takes guts to take the risks. But don't let material things bother you, sure they are nice, but family, friends and love is all that's really important.

Im pretty blessed, I know this...I live 2 dorrs down from a best friend, and 6 doors down from another. I live with my GF, and two more roomies who help w/ the mortgage and got a nice discount on a home. My parents are about 20 minutes away and I work 4 dorrs away from the house as well. I own my favorite tyoe of Dog, an English Bulldog who turned out to be the great granddaughter of UGA6...im not a UGA fan but that was kinfda cool.

Once I get the splurges out of the way I try to emulate the idea of cheap. I rarely buy anything thats not electronics related, like games :) theyre my weakness, but anyways, Im getting the splurges as Ive dreamt about them for years now and want them......Every TV Ive ever owned has been a hand me down...but not anymore soon!!!!

This is way cool of you, thanks man. Sincerely, I envy you. Not to say I don't have stuff, man, I have the two greatest kids in the world and a very nice, cozy home, but I know I'll never be able to indulge in the kind of stuff you may be getting for yourself. At first, I had a bit of jealousy, when I first read your thread, but hey, if you can afford it, go for it. I think you've made the point that you are not really spending for the sake of spending. You've worked for the stuf you're gonna get, go ahead get it :)

Unfortunately, I will probably not be able to help you much, unless you have some questions on how to insulate a basement, building a shed (I'll ask your questions to my dad ;)), or about in-ground pools :) It's been a great while since the last time I've shopped for any electronics, but I'll probably read everything that's in here, and dream about the possibilities :)

Good luck!

Loren's laundry list of goodies reminded me of an item that I've become too familiar with buying over the past few years, becoming pretty opinionated on in the process (imagine that, me with a strong opinion ;) ).

Anyhoo, if you're any sort of regular coffee drinker, I've become convinced that the only way to go is with a high/higher end coffeemaker. Unlike most of the people I've found with the same opinion, mine isn't rooted in performance or taste of the coffee or anything like that ... it's a much simpler matter of discovering consistently that cheap coffeemakers don't last. Now granted, my 3-4 pots per day is heavy use for residental makers, but after replacing 4 coffeemakers in less than two years, I'm much more comfortable with my $100-$125 Cuisinart model than anything I've had in a while. Also, unless you're really picky or have a fastidious nature about cleaning things carefully each time you use them, I'd advise against getting a model that has a built-in grinder; too much energy expended & too much risk of having one part go bad & rendering a whole unit unusable (in certain models).
There are a number of stand-alone grinders that are quite good & avoid the whole multi-function-device set of problems.

And, since I'm posting anyway ... FWIW, you know I've never been bashful about criticizing you when I thought it was appropriate, but I haven't seen one thing in this thread from you that I thought was out of line in any way. AFAIC, you're just living your life & letting us in on a little bit of it. Heck, I think it might just turn out to be my favorite thread that you've ever been in. Keep it up.

I would probably even that cheap anything don't last. This is about the route we've taken with our house too. In French, we call it the "tant qu'à" rule, which could be loosely translated to "might as well" or something like it :) Meaning if you're going to get something that you'll use a lot/for a long time, you might as well spend as much as you can afford to get the best you can afford.

When you start thinking a bit long term, it makes sometimes more sense in getting high/higher end stuff that will at first give you better service, then last longer, than stuff you'll have to replace fairly often... Not saying to go over your budget, simply set your limit and find the very best you for that bidget...

Can you show me a phonetic pronunciation of that phrase, or something? I'd kinda like to be able to get it close to right, because it seems like it sure would come in handy around my house ;)

And is there a French phrase for "My wife just bought the most expensive useless item she could find, just "because." ?

I mean, other than "Sacre' Bleu"? ;)

"Yes dear" ? That works well around here. Actually, I do the finances so he never really knows what I buy so long as his allowance isn't cut. :)

And Flasch - May I ask why you are considering Plasma screen TV's as oppossed to DLP's? The DLP's will last longer than the Plasmas, and are about the same price.

GF bought some bath rugs. theyre white with these ringlets that stand up tall when it comes out of the dryer and then as you walk on them they kinda smush down. theyre nice...

Viva suede...the samples they gave us we took home and took all sort of tools to to try and scratch it and Im tellin' ya...it stands up to some serious wear and tear.

Nightstands we're going to get in a bedroom set so were definitely looking for advice there. There is a lady at the flea market who orders stuff from Carolina, or something but im skeptical as hell. My GF thinks its a great deal but again, value is important and if the crap only last 2 years than it was a bad move.

We have some speakers prewired in the ceiling of the FR and two go to the master and two go to the patio. so Im hoping to find a tuner or some sort of system that will allow to have the 2 speakers in the master run independent of the 5 in the FR, and then the 2 on the patio independent as well. I think I have to spend some dough on this but im kind of clueless here so right now the speakers arent even hooked up.

Vaccuum, were using an old one now but it works pretty good. Hoover? self propelled....works for now. I also bought a little spot cleaner to pick up dog accidents and stuff and that works alright but im kind of dissapointed in it. thats by Little Green MAchine?

Ottomans and coffee table im thinking we'll get when we get the FR furniture which will likely be after the 15th or so. We're definitely going to go to Sofa Express to have a look there.

No fish, no.

We got a big mirror for the wall in the foyer but thats about it. We have some paintings in the FR and a couple of nick nacky paintings in the kitchen but we're definitely in need of help there.

Outside furniture is key as we like having big dinners and cookouts and right now all we have is a lawn chair. So that would be great!@!!!

Im going to get to posting some pics of what we have tonight!!! this is so exciting.

Can you show me a phonetic pronunciation of that phrase, or something? I'd kinda like to be able to get it close to right, because it seems like it sure would come in handy around my house ;)

And is there a French phrase for "My wife just bought the most expensive useless item she could find, just "because." ?

I mean, other than "Sacre' Bleu"? ;)
Always glad to be of help, let's split it in two. First "tant", in which the last "t" is silent and can simply be taken out of the deal. The "an" part is what they call a nasal vowel. Click here for some examples:
http://french.about.com/library/pronunciation/bl-ipa-nvowels.htm

The sound for "an" alone is below:
http://french.about.com/library/media/wavs/an.wav

The starting "t" is like your basic "t" sound, as in "take" in English.

The last part of the expression "qu'à" is like saying "cat" or "car" without saying that last letter, basically like "ca".

Like saying "tan ca". Hope this helps :)

As for the wife spending, can't help you. Once we had gone overboard with the pool, she's never even thought about spending "just because" ;)

Not plasma, we just need flat to put on the walls in that room or someway of getting the TV's up. BF just bought a monster of a TV and he cant put it anywhere except on this big stand. We want the TV in the BR to go up on the wall out of the way and in the office (BR#4) to be out of the way too, since both my desk area and 3R's desk area are in the same room so i figure up is better. Thats all, if there are alternatives, please please enlighten me.

Hey Flasch,

I've been going through the same stuff you are for the past several months. When I moved back to the US from Europe, I had bought a house. But all I'd lived in before were one-bedroom apartments. So I had to completely furnish the house, without the benefit (or is it hindrance? :) ) of a SO.

I've slowly been adding on, but I still have two rooms with nothing in them, the 3rd bedroom and the formal dining room. It was pretty spartan the first few weeks. I used camping chairs in the living room, ate off of paper plates, and slept in a sleeping bag in the master suite.

But now it's getting there. I found a local custom furniture builder that has done some great work for me: http://www.texasbydesign.com They've built me a custom mesquite wood bed with matching end tables, some really cool granite coffee and end tables for the lving room, and another entryway table. I haven't update my site with pics in a while, but here is how the house looked when I bought it: http://www.thegreatcornholio.com/house/new_house.htm I'll update it this weekend with pics of the house a little more filled out.

Good luck with your progress!

Flasch maybe it's not the grass that's the problem. Are those dogs females? If so, that's what is killing the grass and making it look like crap. Female dog urine has a funky PH balance that is just murder on lawns. Try a tablespoon of tomato juice in their food twice a day and that should balance it out.

one of them is a girl, as you can tell from her going bathroom in the pic above, but its been that way since we moved in. I thought it would get better but it never did. hmmm, I thinking about getting a pro to help me next year, to save it...if I lose the grass it would be thousands to replace.

Blinds we had put in the day we moved in. A1A blinds, we mostly got the faux wood, but we got some teardrop ones in the master bedroom, and some pretty cool wicker looking ones for the nook. cost about a grand for the house installed including materials.

i picked up a panasonic SA-XR45S (i think) over the summer when Sears was clearing out all their receivers to make way for all in one home theater setups. I don't think that model is made anymore, but I've found the sounds to be great, and would recommend a panny for sure. The added bonus is a bunch of their recievers are "all-digital", so they are actually like 20 pounds lighter, and much smaller, than most competitors (at least when i last checked that was the case).

If you like having outdoorsy dinner and such, paying a pro to help you regain a top notch grass may not be a bad investment at all, imo. You'll just be that much prouder of having friends in the backyard...

I also agree that dogs, male or female I would think, will tend to make it hard on your grass.

two of the coolest things, kinda electronicy i bought is a serious thermostat. One of the programmable ones to supposedly save money as it cools and heats accordingly, and this light timer thing that goes where the light switch is. $40 and supposedly you set it according to where you are in the country and itll turn the porch light on and off as appropriate. very neat and i installed both of them myselof, and didnt electrocute myself.

For a tuner, it depends on what all you are going to hook up. I found after I upgraded my DirecTV dish to the HDTV version, got the Component output pack for my Xbox, and the 400 disc DVD changer, I ran out of inputs on the back of the TV and the Sony DA50ES receiver I was using. I'm a big-time Sony guy, and the new receiver I ended up getting was the Sony DA3000ES. It converts S-Video inputs to Composite inputs, so only one cable needs to run from the recevier to the TV. I then took the DA50ES and set it up with the old 36 inch Wega in my bedroom.

Whichever receiver you plan to get, make sure it has enough inputs to hold you for a while. If you get one that has just enough to connect what you have now, it won't be able to expand to the next component you get.

We had the choice between digital/electronic thermostats and standard ones when we had our house built and went all electronic, except for the basement ones. Not only will they save you money, but best of all, they keep the temperature much more level. They probably control the A/C more than the heat for you, but for us, they control the heat and they can start the heaters at say 25% if only a little bit is needed, as opposed to standard thermostat that are all or nothing. They start 100% until they reach the temperature they were set for, but since they run too hot, it gets too hot for nothing...

About that light switch, crazy enough, I have one in the shed :) It's set to turn on the front light of the shed, which is at the end of the driveway, at 4pm and turn it off at 11pm. Pretty neat, since it means I never have to go to the shed to turn it on or off, and we didn't have to run wires to the inside of the house to turn it off from there.

And about electrocuting yourself, simply turn off the breaker and you'll be fine. I'm not the biggest of handymen, but I installed all the lighting fixtures in the house myself, including a ceiling fan in the living room. If I can do it, you certainly can. ;)

You might consider buying your furniture at House of Norway if you are in the NY, NJ, PA, CT & DE area. Scandanavian furniture is built very well, very stylish, with good material. We bought a platform bed there, as well as a set of office furniture shelving (to hold my 10,000+ record collection mainly, since most shelves aren't deep enough.) We also bought our sofas there, and are planning on a dining set this year. The quality of the workmanship is much better than at even the top-end stores like Hoffman Koos, or Macy's.

One slight problem is that for some reason Norwegians believe that all drawers in a chest of drawers have to be the same height, which is a little silly.

They have a website at www.houseofnorway.com

I want to go somewhere else but theyre literally right around the corner from the house and no one else is...supposedly a super target is coming but thats gotta be years away. Alright we got a couple of coach lights for over the garage, $25 a piece but theyre cast aluminum and im not sure you need to go top notch on an exterior light fixture....and I got this chair for my temporary desk. The chair is a POS $48 from EVIL but it will be a decent stop gap until I can fully furnish the office with decent stuff. This way I can put the dining room chair that im using at the desk back in the dining room with the other dining room crap we have.

BUT today i added crown molding. some handy guy did it and it looks great but the stuff he uses is cheap so I dont know the long term ramifications of him using composite stuff instead of real wood. It cost 1600 for the foyer inc. tray, kitchen/FR, niche, Master inc. tray, Dining room + chair rail, and tear drops in the corners. Regardless when the guy left, it looked great but I felt dirty...Ill put up pics ASAP. I need a shower.

They're also really easy to accidentally put something down on. My parents had a corning range, blech. You had to use special glass pots and everything. I do a lot of cooking, so I'm really glad that we have a gas range -- you really have a lot more control over the heat than with electric.

The guy (Glenn Peeples 904-635-8553 - works from Jville down to St. Augustine) quoted me 1600 for the above stuff and then asked if there was anything he could have installed for us so I mentioned the MA. BR ceiling fan (pictured) and we had him put it up for free. Its a Hunter (the seville), I dont know much about fans but he guy at Home Depot said it was good. Im generally pleased with the crown as it really finishes off the walls it seems. He did those teardrop things in the corner which look better and probably make his cuts a ton easier too so whatever.

The grass looks like it's suffering from a combination of the following:

1. Over-fertilization
2. Dog expectoration
3. Over-cutting

Is this a brand new house with brand new grass/sod? If so, it may not have been watered enough to take root. If that's the case, you're probably looking at replacing it.

If it still looks kind of alive, here's my advice.

Regarding Problem #1: Grass shouldn't need fertilizer unless the soil is really atrocious. However, a lot of people over-fertilize, because they don't know any better. It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to check the ph of your soil, and see what kind of shape you're in. However, if the soil is really bad (like sand, or clay, or something), your long-term option is to get some mulch in, and upgrade the soil. If it's just a case of the previous owners/construction company overfertilizing and burning the grass, you may be able to nurse it back to health.

Regarding Problem #2: Try to keep the dogs from "going to work" all over the lawn. Good luck with that.

Regarding Problem #3: Cut grass to 3 inches during growing season. This keeps it nice and healthy and also helps it crowd out the weeds (i.e. crabgrass) that try to grow. After the growing season (if grass ever stops growing in Florida - I don't know), cut to an inch for the winter. You basically want grass that's tall, but not flopping over. Three inches is usually good for this.

Grass can certainly be prolonged by artificial means indefinitely, provided you have the funds and the free time to apply everything to your grass that you need to. The "organic" option I've outlined is the better long-term solution, though, depending on the site, it may require more of an up-front investment, especially if you, for instance, have to rip everything out, mulch the yard, and then seed it.

Good to hear. Based on that, my recommendations are:

1. Let it get to 3" before cutting, and cut with your mower set to 3".
2. Don't fertilize.
3. Water when it gets dry (although note, grass won't die without water, it'll just go dormant, so you're watering to keep the nice appearance, not to save the grass, unless you live in a desert, of course)
4. When winter comes, cut down to 1".

You won't have grass that's "golf course" neat, but you'll have healthy, springy, lush grass.

Thanks about the paint, a husband/wife team and their first work on one wall was bad...I caught it though and they redid it and made changes. The whole paint job was like $1900 for a lot of it. Te corwn was 1600 for the whole house.

The big square out there is for a hot tub and then one of those full sized gaxebos with glass doors and stuff. BUT I missed last winter so im going to wait til like august or september to buy that. The back porch is targeted for a Florida room as the home will then be 2259 sq. ft. and clear the 2000 sq. ft. threshold which is a prety big demarcationline when it comes to reselling, which we will eventually someday.

I drove what I thoguht was the car I wanted, the Cadillac CTSV and boy was it a let down. crappily put together...ont he way back we stopped and drove the Infiniti M sport and WOW, unreal. I want it but boy is it stupid to pay that much on for a car.

so we got a few things:

a bar table from a catalog and one of the chairs legs were broken so the new legs are on their way:

we got an AWESOME dining room table set I picked out!! I love it, we got it from Ashley furniture. What I didnt realize at the time is that the suede matches our couches...so that's a neat little thing:

and finally this is the long story. We bought a huthc from a place called Wood You in april. Basically you buy an unfinished piece and they sell you the stain and you go home and do it yourself. Well its supposed to be easy. We bought a hutch made of Parawood (its from a rubber tree) and started staining it. When we applied the second coat though, instead of taking it, it started taking the first coat off. I called them and they didnt beleiev me so I took the whole thing back to them in 2 trips. They then believed me, so they said there was an error and proceeded to sand the whole thing down. 2 weeks later they said it was ready to be picked up so I did and we took it home and let it sit in the garage for about a month before tackling it. However this time, not only did it not take, in some of the corners and niches he couldnt get the sander so it was extremely dark in those areas and looked like crap...so finally 3 months later I took it back again and got my money back. I took said money to World Market and bought this piece and will NEVER stain anything again. Lesson learned, I lost about 150 with delivery charges and all but:

Well duh

It was a rubber tree! Whatever you put on it bounces off of it and sticks on to you!

Ummm - there is a mattress in your dining room...is that just so when the mood strikes you don't have to walk all the way to the bedroom, you can just throw the mattress down and go for it? ;)

Seriously, cool furniture. I love the dining room table and chairs!

ooohhh, now I'm jealous :) Looks like a pretty sweet hot tub, congrats on the buy.

You remind me, now that I got a digital camera, maybe I should upgrade my home thread with some pics of the shed and the kiddos toys around it. We pulled out Andrew's old plastic slide in the shape of a treehouse and his sandbox in the shape of a turtle. Matthew loves playing with them. He just discovered how much fun sliding down can be :)

so like i said I finally had Sound Advice come out to the hosue to fix the home theatre system so that it actually works. Here is the entertainment center which we bought through Haverty's, it Hooker Furniture. Now that I know that my company has an account there we can buy direct for our bedroom furniture and save a ton...we missed on this one and I hate the price but it actually looks better than i thought it would. HOWEVER the internal lights in the cabs and the bridge were not installed right so we cant turn them all on when you turn on the one (which is how it is supposed to work) unless I have the lights switched and its too much of a pain for something we may never use.

just a grill as it'll have to reside on the screened porch we're having added. Just one of the big stainless steel ones but not too expensive. have any suggestions?

so I have a pretty big update. Its been about a year and we were finally able to get rid of GF's grandmother's bedroom furniture. I also added a Covered and screened porch which isnt completely done yet, and got a big crab steamin' pot!! The furniture was all at cost from Hooker furniture, since I was able to pull some strings through my company...so it ALL was about 4500 including shipping and setup. The pot and burner was about $150...the porch was, um, a shit ton but hopefully worth it.
