I will be running a Memphis Tigers Dynasty, with the details on this to follow up later today when I get home.

It will be set on All-Star with Random Academic Reputations on Yes...Solecismic 8 will be set in Tennessee as well, to increase the competition for recruiting.

The details, story outline will follow tonight. Thanks for the 6 who voted in the poll on this.

There I was sitting in my office, working on some offensive plays when the phone rings.

"Coach Thomas, this is R.C. Johnson, AD at the University of Memphis, I was wondering if you would be interested in being our Head Coach for Football."

"Um, yeah, funny one Tohara, give it up. You almost got me there."

"Coach Thomas, I assure you, I am not Tohara, I am R.C. Johnson, and I am asking you to come in for an interview for our Head Coaching position."

The cold sweat broke across my brow, thinking, I just screwed my chance to coach Div I ball.

"Mr. Johnson, I am on the next plane out to Memphis."

"Coach Thomas, rest assured, you have an airline ticket waiting for you. We look forward to meeting with you."

What can I say, several rigorous interviews later, I was being offered the position, what more could I say but Hell Yes! A chance to coach in the Div I.

The common cry throughout the entire Div I press, crowd, and even Tiger Fans, Dennis who? Coach Who? Led Who to Where?

We have been written off in CUSA, and pretty much the football world, just how I like it, sneak attack.

Well, lets get down to it...time to look at my current staff.

Sydicate Coordinator
Celeste Carter
Academic Eligibility: Fair
Syndicate Investigation: Terrible
Solicit Donations: Excellent

Offensive Coordinator
Derek Poston
Play Calling: Fair
Injury Avoidance: Fair
Rehabilitation: Good
Congeniality: Lousy
QB: Terrible
RB: Terrific
WR: Excellent
OL: Lousy
K: Decent

Defensive Coordinator
Deon Browning
Play Calling: Terrific
Injury Avoidance: Pretty Good
Rehabilitation: Terrible
Congeniality: Fair
DL: Good
LB: Decent
DB: Lousy

Looking at the staff I am stuck with this season, It looks like I might have to replace all three of the main cogs. My scouts are decent, and I will more than likely only replace them if they retire or move on.

...I think we are hurting in the main place the most.....QB.

And it is obvious that besides RB and some bright spots on the OL...we suck....we are going to be recruiting heavily in all positions, we have 16 walk ons, with 3 of them in the QB spot.

This is going to be a rough season...And Looking at our running backs, Amos Everett may get tagged with a red shirt this season.

Looking deep into our roster, I realize, I might have to balance some things out...we are pretty deep offensively in some places, and I see some diamonds in the rough at FB, TE, and WR.

I also see that Amos Everett will benefit us better next year, so I am tagging him with his Red Shirt. Boy was he pissed when I let him know, but with a brief discussion, and explaining to him, he will be our feature back next season, he was pretty happy.

Other players tagged

FB Harold Cirino
TE Bobby Spikes
WR Jeffrey Tubbs

These are on top of the ones tagged prior to my arrival at Memphis.

Week 1

No game this week, allows me to look into some of the classes and educational aspects of my players.

Looking into it, I see some potential problems arising throughout the season, the coaches and I will make sure they are taken care of.

I think some of my major issues will be dealing with keeping the boosters away from the players, as obviously my Syndicate coordinator has no desire to.

Discussions were had with Derek and Deon, and we have decided to run the Pro Set offensively this season, and focus on a 4-6 primarily on D, but obviously rotation will happen as we scout our competitors.

Recruiting

I am primarily going to be shooting for some of the local talent....hitting TN primarily, but I will run into MS and AR as well...we will see if I can win with locals....

Starting right off the bat, I make an immediate push to upgrade the QB situation...

QB Norbert Bond - Visit - Offer
QB Cedric Bauer - Visit - Offer

Based on their skills and abilities they will provide an immediate upgrade to their position, so I feel that we are getting an instant boost in the QB position with these two.

WR Quinn Meechan - Visit
WR Darrell Emmons - Visit
ILB Bruce Segalas - Visit
RB Sherman Zimmerman - Visit
CB Max Foley - Visit
S Johnnie Hanson - Visit
DE Lewis Tepper
DE Buddy Rhinehart
G Bo Rubio
OLB Leonard Hardy
OLB Van McNulty
DT Neil Meche
DT Roderick Lane
T Rufus Greene
C J.C. Jaeger
CB Kendall Dixon

The rest of the players were contacted by phone and personal visits at their homes, The travel budget is stretched out a lot more when you have some great talent close to you.

Week 2

We head into Mississippi for a brutal open to our season. They have a great squad, were we are going to be challanged to take them on, with some good play calling we can shut their offense down. We are going to rely on our RB's and FB's to take this one to them.

Recruiting

I am going to again focus on the group of recruits from Week 1, I want to nail a few to commitments before I move onto others. We need this talent, and we need it in a bad way.

Can you say getting your ass handed to you? Can you say it with a straight face?

That's ok, the rest of the nation can't either. Memphis has turned into the laughing stock in the press as we managed to blow our opener in a massive way. Our offense was....well...non existent...and the defense, I think they feel like they ran a marathon.

Now this doesn't help recruiting one bit...

Nice. I voted for the Tigers. I'll be reading.
Thank you, I am working on this, it's going to be rough...the team is beat up...and not looking pretty.

One thing I tend to do, in order to convince or talk some of the higher recruits into coming, is to keep in contact with them until I am told by their HS coach that it is enough....most of the time my recruiting class is around 10 to 15 players, but I am generally ranking 88 to 90 out of 100 for my recruiting grade when I do this. I get top 50 players in their position. And a lot of the time, I offer a scholarship to top 10 players on the 1st week.

Others may handle it differently, however, this is one of the most effective way. And a lot of the times, I can get some players from 50 to 100, just by requesting their visit and staying in contact a couple of times.

Thanks, this is what I have been doing, but most of the higher up recruits refuse to visit my school. I wish you could pick a game for them to come and see. Last year's class was pretty good, so maybe I shouldn't worry. One thing that bugs me is when I call and visit a player in green, it's not as clear cut as the help file makes it seem.

Good luck!!

Week 3

We welcome Johnson City into Memphis for our home opener. I am beyond pumped, my first home game.

I feel through the pep talk I gave the team at the start of the game, we should see some dynamic output from the team....

One thing, Amos Everett is giving me the look, put me in...I don't want to, but if the situation is drastic, I will pull him in.

Recruiting

I am pretty much trying to land the same, however, I will branch out a bit, and attempt to bring in some more recruits...right now, the list is growing on contacts...but I have yet to offer many additional visits.

Injury Report

SR DT Brian D'Antonio has a hyper extended knee that is going to keep him out for close to 4 weeks, the training staff is looking into what they can do to bring the healing up a bit.

I was happy to make it off with the win, in the end, we started to give the game to them. Their offense churned it up, taking the TOP away from us by 7 minutes, almost ensuring that if they were able to make the go ahead score, we wouldn't be able to follow up.

I awarded the game ball to Randy Boyer, he deserved it with his offensive performance today.

I reminded the boys, this is the first win in a long season, and we need to complete 4 full quarters, not just the 2 that came out in this game..They knew that, and realized it.

I will let them rest an extra day, but this weeks practice is going to be busy, we travel to Arkansas to take on Arkansas State.

Practice was grueling, but I feel this team is ready, we shifted the defense up to a 4-3, running more man to man and bump and run than we normally would, just trying to bring something different out to help the team.

This week, we focused on the truism of four full quarters, and a lot of the players made comments of high school football all over again, however, I had to remind them, they have yet to show me a game of four full quarters.

I drew the line, and they have accepted the challange

The philosophy worked, they gave me four full quarters, and I couldn't have been happier with the team.

I walked across the field to shake the coach's hand, thinking "I now have a winning record"

The press is laughing still, but you know what, I am doing ok at proving them wrong.

Randy Boyer is slowly starting to shine, and the kid is proving he has the toughness to do what he has been asked.

We are traveling to Alabama-Birmingham this week. We are going to keep the same defensive philosophy, however, we are going to focus on some non conventional game planning on offense to see if we can catch them off guard.

The adjustment in the offensive gameplan worked, however, Randy had that look in his eye from the get go, and he was bound and determined to not let anyone stop him.

I never expected to amass 425 yards on the ground though.

I handed out Game balls to Randy, and the entire OL, as they managed to rip open some major holes for our guys to run through.

This will go down as one of my top coaching wins this season.

Craig Fleming a Tackle from Laredo, Texas turned us down and decided to stay in State. He will be playing at TCU.

This is a bad loss for us, he was ranked 8th at his position in the nation.

At least the initial reject was one. I look for some accepts and rejects to arrive in the next week or two.

Week 6

My first chance at Television exposure as our game with Houston will be televised on ESPN + regionally.

I am hoping for the same kind of outcome as last week, we really shocked Alabama-Birmingham.

The press is starting to take our team a little more serious now as we are 3-1, however, until we either gurantee an above .500 finish, I do not think we will see national attention yet.

I am hoping this winning streak will help with the recruiting situation, I am getting slightly worried, some of these recruits should be making their decision soon.

A gut wrenching loss that saw Boyer go out in the 1st qtr with a concussion, the guy got his bell rung good, and the trainers wouldn't let him go back in.

This determined to me, that we Boyer has this team on his shoulders, Meek tried to lead us as a QB, he did well, but the guy has to have a massive plow hitched, he is slower than molasses.

This one hurt even more, as it was on national television.

Recruiting Report

We lost two more Recruits

CB Kendall Dixon accepted an offer to Florida, this was a dream try, he was the #1 player in the nation, and the best DB around, it was expected he would choose Florida in the third week, so we let up on him.

WR Quinn Meechan was another story, he was a state boy, from Clinton, Tennessee, I have to admit, I am disappointed at his choice in Kentucky, but then again, it is closer to home than we are.

Week 7

A very much needed bye week. Time to focus on some more academic issues. And we do have some guys a little upset about their PT, however, they haven't shown up at practice, what makes me think they will show up in a game.

Recruiting

No signings yet, still focusing on the primary recruits from Week 1
Luckily, I was already recruting deep at the WR and CB position so the rejections didn't hurt to bad.

Injury Report

Same injuries are there, it's just we get a whole week without contact for these guys to heal up and get better.

G Cris Barton is probable due to a strained quad
C Victor Matthews is out due to a sprained back, this kid has courage and grit, he hurt it in the 2nd quarter of the game, but didn't tell anyone until the next day. He said he didn't want to leave the game.

DT Brian D'Antonio is now questionable with his knee
K Johnnie Ramirez is probable with a bruised sternum
T Jumbo Austin is probable with a bad cold...he is getting razzed right now by the DL, we will see if he shows up.

We take a major kick in the teeth this week as we get zero recruits, and 6 declines. It looks like it is time to focus on encouraging some local walk ons.

CB Max Foley
ILB Eugene Joyner
C J.C. Jaeger
WR Curtis Pedersen
QB Norbert Bond

all declined.

Week 8

Tulane is coming to town, and we are still a little beat up. I am hoping that we can step up, and whip these guys a bit, I don't want to even out at .500 in the 8th week of the season.

More tweaking in the offense to take into account our OL injuries.

Recruiting

No signings yet, still focusing on the primary recruits from Week 1

Desperation time is here, time to work on some of the recruits in the 50 - 100 ranking range for their position, lets hope we can find a few "diamonds" in the rough.

Randy does it again. He scored twice on the ground, and once receiving. He is beginning to prove my theory correct.

Two more wins, and we will be bowl eligible, however, I don't believe that will get us to the bowls, I belive we have to have at minimum, 7 or 8 wins.

As I sit at my desk and pour over the teams wins and losses, I realize I give Boyer a lot of props, but leave the guys on defense hanging.

In all of our wins, our Secondary has performed admirably, generally, getting 2 or more picks, and at least returning them for a TD.

Our DL is doing well in the Sack category.

Finally, some of our hard work, and long travel has paid off. A lot of the local boys are not liking Memphis football, I think it's the fact I am here.

However, a few have noticed what we have done so far.

Scout Report from Sammy Wise:
Strength: Man To Man Defense
Weakness: Zone Defense

Ranked 67th in the nation at his position
Named to the All State Team

In the 9 games he has played in this season, he has 81 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and 2 Int's.
His coaches have described him as one of the hardest working players on the team and someone who generally has a good attitude.

RB Carlos Carruth 6' 2" 193 lbs
Lathrup High School

Scout Howie Canales Reports:
Strength: Third Down Running
Weakness: Kick Returning

Ranked as the 79th Player in the nation
Ranked as the 6th Best Player in his position in the nation
#1 in his state and in his position in the state of Alaska

This was one I flew out and meet with the family personally, informed them "student" first. And they all loved it. He fell in love with the City of Memphis, and our Medicine Program.

In the 8 games he has played in, he has carried the rock 216 times for 1542 yards and 16 TD's. His ypc avg of 7.13 really impressed me. His receiving skills are nice as he has 41 receptions for 889 yards and 5 TD's. His 21.68 ypc is astonishing, and fits our scheme even better.

He can also play defense as he amassed at the ILB position, 54 Tackles, 5 Sacks, and 2 INT's

This is so far a steal in the recruiting world for me.

QB Martin Drake 6' 0" 184 lbs

Scout O.J. Williams Report
Likes To Run: All The Time
Strength: Very Long Passing
Weakness: Medium Passing

Ranked 15th in the nation
Ranked 3rd overall in his position
#1 in his state and his position

This kid has the talent, I think he has much more than what O.J. covered to me in his report. He is into astronomy, I have been informed by some, while doing a little background investigation his attitude isn't the best. I hope I can turn it around. His States are amazing for a QB.

7 Games Played, 165/250, 66% completion, 3079 yards and 15 TD's. I am not forgetting the INT's, it's just that, this kid has yet to throw one all season long. He can read a defense very well.

Rushing he has some yardage. 58 attempts for 299 yards and 3 TDs. He isn't afraid to pull it and run, but with the proper WR's, he shouldn't have to.

Looking at these three players, it should have been a given that Lonnie would sign with us, the Army was the only other school after him, and we offered more as far as school life to him. Carlos and Martin are great grabs for us. I am truly amazed at the fact I was able to get them to commit. Rumor has it, a lot of the parents are helping push their kids to us due to the teams work ethic and focus on academics.

As far as recruits not coming over. We lost 4 more

S Bobby Garrison to Ohio State
S Johnnie Henson to Vanderbilt
OLB Leonard Hardy to Oklahoma State
ILB Earnest Dickerson to Utah State

Travelling up to Cincinnati to play the Bearcats on ESPN+, it's going to be a tough game. The Bearcats are favored by 6, and undefeated in conference play, however, we hold the better overall against them at 4-2.

And I have rewarded current QB Donald Meek with a scholarship for his play so far.
Recruiting

Obviously the three signings we have are great foundations for a freshman class, we need to expand on this, and hope to leverage these signing towards the others we are recruiting.

Injury Report
our injuries are pretty close to lengthy.

DT Brian D'Antonio is now out for 4 weeks with his knee

What can I say, the scholarship given to Donald set him off. He threw for 231 yards and 2 TD's.

Boyer continued to be impressive for us as well as our secondary, with Gangi leading the way defensive.

It felt good handing the Bearcats their first conference loss, thier coach congratulated me, and stated that he is a bit amazed at how well I have this team playing right now. We threw things at him, he wasn't expecting.

Biggest Weakness: Defending the Run

Ranked 26th in his position

Wow, my impression of this kid is better than what O.J. has said about him, and he is excellent at grading DL. I think this kid is going to be a major anchor on the DL for the next four years.

In 9 games he has 52 tackles and 10 sacks.

C Chris Carpenter 6'4" 289 lbs

This kid is small, but quick, I truly feel from watching him play in person and on game film he is much better than O.J. has led me to believe. The kid plays both ways.

On offense

In 9 games he has 80 receptions for 2091 yards receiving and 11 TD's

on Defense

In 9 games he has 60 tackles, 5.5 sacks and 4 INT's

Scout Report from O.J. Williams
Strength: Run Blocking
Weakness: Pass Protection

Ranked 19th at his position nationally
Ranked 16th overall in his state
Ranked 1st at his position in his state

This kid is a bowling ball, he is tough and collapses LB's when he lead blocks. He plays at OLB as well.

Offensively:

In 9 games he has 83 rushes for 499 yards and 6 TD's and coming out of the backfield he has 32 receptions for 421 yards and 6 TD's

Defensively:

In 9 games he has 54 tackles, 4 sacks and 1 INT

As you can pretty much tell, we managed to grab intelligent kids this go around. Kids that are genuinely interested in an education. I am happy this University agreed with me to focus on the "Student" Athlete instead of the athlete aspect. To me, those who don't want to come here, well, they don't want to work.

Meanwhile, we lost 7 recruits to other schools

DT Neil Meche to Clemson
DT Roderick Lane to Toledo
DE Buddy Rhinehart to Clarksville
T Brian Williamson to Marshall
G Bo Rubio to Vanderbilt
WR Tyrell Duffy to Louisville
QB Cedric Bauer to Union City

Week 10

Another bye week, and a week of much needed rest and healing for the team.
We are close to securing a bowl spot, and a winning record in my first season.

I am elated, the emotions are there, and once that winning record is secured, I can tell the national press where to go.

Meanwhile, local press is painting me out to be decent, but everyone is still hesistant, as the sophmore curse is around the corner next season.

Recruiting

Winning has been helping, we have landed 8 new recruits to help the team out, and it's time to focus on DL and OL to bring them in here, we don't have enough of what we want and need right now.

Injury Report
our injuries are pretty close to lengthy.

FB Terrell Gray is done for the season with a torn wrist tendon
C Victor Matthews is doubtful for 3 weeks due to a sprained back
DT Brian D'Antonio is doubtful for 3 weeks with his knee
DE Louis Coffey is out for 6 weeks with a severe wrist sprain
G Levon King is basically done for the season with dislocated knee.
DT Shawn Humphrey is probable for 5 weeks with a bruised sternum.

Week 11

Well, now comes my chance on a nationally televised stage. We have #23 Louisville coming into Memphis.

It's our chance to prove we are for real. It's our chance to show several recruits that we mean business. It's our chance to become bowl eligible this week.

We are going to keep with what has been working so far.

Recruiting

8 recruits have signed so far.
Focusing on the OL and DL now, trying to build a good foundation up.

Obviously we are not ready to play with the big boys. After the quick 14 in the 1st qtr, it looked like we gave up.

Boyer was knocked out of the game in the 2nd qtr, and that was the game for us. Meek stunk it up, and apologized to the team in the locker room after, he said his head wasn't in it.

Let's see if he is able to bounce back, and be a leader next week. We need to secure a bowl.

Recruiting Report

We managed two more commitments this week, even after the spanking from Louisville.

TE Austine Burnstine 6'6" 234 lbs
Fayette County High School
Fayetteville, Georgia
3.96 GPA
1451 Test Score

Scout Report from O.J. Williams
Strength: Third Down Receiving
Weakness: Catching in Traffic

Ranked 417th Nationally
Ranked 13th at his position nationally
Ranked 12th overall in his state
Ranked 1st at his position in his state.

This is a big kid, that provides a great target for the QB. Getting open in the lower ranges for 3rd down conversions is where he will be great at. This kid will redshirt his freshman year, and pick up as a starter more than likely as a Soph.

His stats offenisvely in 9 games are 29 receptions for 373 yards and 2 TD's

CB Dean Kemp 5' 11" 171 lbs
Harrison High School
Kennesaw, Georgia
2.60 GPA
979 Test Score

Scout Report from O.J. Williams
Strength: Kick Returning
WeaknessL Defending the Run

Ranked 98th Nationally at his position
Ranked 40th overall in his state
and ranked 2nd at his position in his state

Dean is a bit of a stretch for us at DB, he was mainly picked up for his returning skills, and if that doesn't pan out, as long as the kid focuses and keeps his nose clean, we will keep him around. He will be moved from CB to S.

His Defensive stats:
In 9 games played he has 35 tackles, 1 sack, and 11 Interceptions.

We also had 3 decline us

S Melvin Sanford went to Hawaii
S Edgar Fisher went to West Virginia
T Rufus Green went to Middle Tennessee State

It's looking like the safties do not like our school.

FYI, to fix stuff like this:

First Downs 23 11
Total Rushes 48 25
Net Rushing Yards 164 53
Yards Per Carry 3.4 2.1
Rushing Yards 179 86
Tckld Loss/Yards 6-9 6-11
Sacked/Yards Lost 1-6 4-22

Hit the preview post button and see what is not lining up properly, in this case we can see that the Net Rushing Yards is too far to the right. Go back into your post click so that the cursor is to the left of the 1 in 164 and hit the backspace button.

Now it should look like this when you hit the preview post button:

First Downs 23 11

Total Rushes 48 25
Net Rushing Yards 164 53
Yards Per Carry 3.4 2.1
Rushing Yards 179 86
Tckld Loss/Yards 6-9 6-11
Sacked/Yards Lost 1-6 4-22

Do the same with Tckld Loss/Yards and Sacked/Yards Lost... and so on until everything is lined up properly. On the player stats page, you have to move them 8 spaces to the right instead of 1 space to the left.

Rushing Att Yards Avg Long TD Stufd Sackd
40 Gardner 13 43 3.3 13 0 4 0
32 Boyer 4 28 7.0 29 0 1 0
11 Meek 2 -11 -5.5 0 0 0 2
9 Van Diver 2 -11 -5.5 0 0 0 2

Cursor to the left of A in Att, move 8 spaces to the left. The same with the 1 in 13 on Garner's stat line. Results:

Rushing Att Yards Avg Long TD Stufd Sackd
40 Gardner 13 43 3.3 13 0 4 0
32 Boyer 4 28 7.0 29 0 1 0
11 Meek 2 -11 -5.5 0 0 0 2
9 Van Diver 2 -11 -5.5 0 0 0 2

..and so on for the 2 in Meek and Van Diver on down the list.

We had this one, but then we gave up in the 4th. We allowed a determined team to come back and steal this one from us.

I didn't have to say a word in the locker room after the game, Deon was laying into his defense, and Derek was letting Donald have it.

From everything I understood from Boyer, Donald started audibling in the 4th, thinking he could run up the score some more, and it back fired on him majorly. The one he through from their 4 and returned for a TD started it all. 5 INT's in the 4th quarter with us up by 13 is uncalled for.

And honestly, this might force him to finish the season out riding on the bench.

Recruiting Report

Well, no commitments this week.

We did have 3 more turn us down

ILB Harvey Aguirre went to Central Florida
DT Al Crockett went to Vanderbilt
OT Deon Taylor went to Rutgers.

So far, I hate Vanderbilt, I think they managed to take the most away from us this season.

Week 13

Just received notice from the deans office G Ryan Kemp was put upon academic notice due to failing a class.

WR Donny Wallace was put on notice as well.

I even had extra time spent with both of these guys throughout the season. Damn girlfriends, if they aren't focusing on them, it's football.

We are heading to East Carolina and Randy is a game time decision. Derek and I have lost faith in Donald, he is getting this start, but if he screws another win like he did last week, this kid will ride the bench for the rest of his life.

Recruiting

10 signings for the season.

Injury Report
Not a good week.

Randy has taken one to many shots to the head...He has a concussion. He is Probable for the next 5 weeks.

FB Terrell Gray is done for the season with a torn wrist tendon
DE Louis Coffey is Questionable for 3 weeks with a severe wrist sprain
G Levon King is basically done for the season with dislocated knee.
DT Shawn Humphrey is probable for 2 weeks with a bruised sternum

End of Year Summary

Michigan ended up winning the National Championship

QB Nick Carpenter from Illinois was named Player of the Year

For a team that was expected to end at the bottom of the conference I feel we shocked the national press just by finishing 5-6. However, the tail spin at the end of the season led them to point and say see, they suck.

Hopefully, with the new recruits, and some improvement overall, we can look at a bowl game next season.

We were graded the following

56/100 for Team Performance
45/100 for Academic Performance (I thought we did a lot better)
100/100 for Recruiting Performance (I have to say we had the #1 recruiting class)
77/100 for Television
51/100 for Alumni
41/100 for Attendance

Our overall grade was a 56, I am a little upset on our academic as I thought it would be a lot higher
