NBA Live is an interesting choice for mention right there.
Anyway, I'm not sure what's coming out this year, so the only thing I'm really looking forward to so far is EA's Arena Football game.

I'm strictly a PC gamer, so some of these have already come out on the consoles.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
The Movies (lots of hype in the beginning half of '04 but not much recently. Considering it's a Molyneuax game, I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing)
F.E.A.R. - I've really liked Monolith's previous 2 shooters (NOLF, NOLF 2)
Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 - Could this be better than Call of Duty?
Dreamfall: The Longest Journey - The Longest Journey is one of my favorite adventure games. Hope they didn't do to much to make it console friendly.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - if it ever comes out that is
I keep saying I won't buy another Madden.... but I'm weak, really weak...

I'd guess that the reason the hype around The Movies died off was because of Fable. Once it gets closer to the release, it'll pick back up.

Does this game have a career mode?
It includes a basic career mode. You can play Maximum-Football leagues over unlimited seasons with players being drafted, developing over the years, growing older and retiring. Maximum-Football includes a draft profile system as well as a training camp profile for each team.

You mentioned salaries. Does the game have salary and player negotiations?
At this time no. These items are included in the database for future use. However you can use them for on line leagues and create your own applications that use these fields. Currently there are no plans for the first edition of Maximum-Football to include player negotiations. Currently there is no facility for AI controlled player trades. Those features will be in Maximum-Football 2Wake me up when version 2 comes out.

Same, same, same. Then again, I blitzed through 1 in 2 weeks over Christmas break a couple of years ago because I had borrowed a friend's PS2. I had something like 65 hours on the timer and did everything. Still the most fun game this generation for my money.

We're both eagerly awaiting the next one.My wife loves Square games, and the various ripoffs of that genre. When I found out they were making one with Disney characters, my only conclusion is that they were aiming the game soley at her, and felt they could break even by selling exactly one copy.
I have to admit, from seeing her play it seems like they did a great job with the game. It would have been so easy to get the license and then mail it in (cough, Simpsons, cough) but they really put some effort into it. I hope the series lives a long life.
When does #2 come out?

To all of you Kingdom Hearts fans, pick up Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories on the Game Boy Advance. it's the "middle" chapter linking KH1 and KH2 on PS2, and it's also an enjoyable game in its own right.
As far as 2005 releases that I'm looking forward to go, here's some of them (had you asked me a week ago, Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap would have been on there, but I picked that up last night and am greatly enjoying it):
Nintendo DS
Advance Wars
Super Mario Bros (the new one)
Retro Atari Classics
PlayStation 2
Champions of Norrath: Call to Arms
Xenosaga 2
Gran Turismo 4 (although without the online play, it's considerably less drool-worthy for me)
Rise of the Kasai (sequel to the underrated Mark of Kri)
Stella Deus: The Gate of Eternity
Phantom Kingdom (possibly being renamed Makai Kingdom)
Wild Arms: Alter Code F
Xbox
Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath
ESPN MLB 2k5
MVP Baseball 2005 (maybe it won't be broken this year)
Star Wars: Republic Commando
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Lockdown
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
FarCry: Instincts
Doom 3
Jade Empire
Forza Motorsport
Area 51
Sid Meier's Pirates!
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (rumored Xbox Live play)
Advent Rising (RPG with a story written by Orson Scott Card)
GameCube
Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat
Advance Wars
new Legend of Zelda
Odama (war + pinball = gold)
Geist
Fire Emblem
Game Boy Advance
Klonoa 2: Dream Champ Tournament
Pac-Man Pinball (I'm a pinball fiend)
WarioWare: Twisted!
There are a handful of others, but none which are definitely slated to come out this year. Plus, I can't really comment on my hopes for PSP until some more information trickles out on that.

I can't speak to other card-based games, but the way this one works is, you can build a deck (okay, that's pretty standard), and arrange it however you want (still with me?) but your ability to do combat is based upon how you play the deck.
Most cards will have numbers on them - 0, 1, 2, etc, and the higher the number, the more powerful the attack. An attack can be deflected either by playing a higher card value immediately after the attack card, or by playing a zero card immediately after the attack card.
Special moves, known as "sleights," are unleashed by "holding" three cards in a row, and using them all at once. You lose the first card when you do this, but the other two return to your deck. If you run out of cards, there's a 'recharge card' that you can play that returns to your deck any normal cards used in normal combat, and the 2nd and 3rd cards from any sleights played. There are cards you can pick up in battle that can only be used once, and only in that battle, and you don't get those back when you recharge.
It's confusing as hell to try and figure out just by reading it, but if you actually play the game, it becomes second nature very quickly. You still control movement and such during combat. It's just that instead of a combination of button presses to unleash moves the way most Action/RPGs do, you use a single button and play cards in various ways instead.

I will admit that I didn't understand a word of any of that.
But maybe a better question would be: would a person who wasn't especially into card games, but who really liked Kingdom Hearts and absolutely loves Disney, enjoy the game?

That's the thing, I think you could. This isn't like, say, Magic: The Gathering or other, more traditional, card games where you have to build mana and all that junk before you can unleash anything. You have a basic deck of cards, most of which have specific values. High card wins, unless it's both a zero card AND played last. You can unleash a special move by playing three cards that add up to values within a certain range. Some cards have magical effects, such as healing or elemental spells. During battle, you can obtain "friend cards" to allow Donald, or Goofy, or whoever to assist you.
It sounds confusing, as all such games must, I suppose, but it's much simpler in practice than it is in theory.
If I'm not mistaken, Maple Leafs, you're in Canada, so I don't know if this will work for you. If it will, though, and you don't wanna pay for the game to discover if you want to play it or not, do this:
Sign up for the GameFly (http://www.gamefly.com/ads/a.asp?a=gnk101) free trial, and choose Chain of Memories as one of your trial games. That'll give you around a week to play with it and discover if it'll hold your interest.
I know it's good for anybody in the United States, but I don't know if they ship to Canada because of the whole customs thing.

Hadn't heard anything about that. I know Sony's upcoming baseball game is going to integrate media relations into the "Career" mode, where you play the game as one player on the team. That could be cooll.

I honestly do not plan to buy Madden this year. The buying the exclusive license thing really bothers me. And I honestly am hoping this forces Sega to pull out all the stops and get creative with their game. I'm hoping they make a highly flexible game where you can configure things just the way you like. Change division sizes and alignments, edit rosters, unis, and stadiums to your heart's content, download logos, etc., to get around the problem of not having the license.
Basically, though I know it can't actually happen, I'm hoping that they kick EA's ass.
SackAttack
01-13-2005, 02:12 AM
I don't think you'll be able to download logos (at least, not official ones) unless Sega hosts a place for users to upload their own content (I know Xbox Live at large is doing this, dunno how it'll trickle down yet), and even that might get them in legal trouble.

BioWare's Asian-themed RPG achieves gold status; game now expected to hit shelves April 12.
Microsoft Game Studios today announced that its upcoming Xbox game, Jade Empire, has gone gold and will be on store shelves two days earlier than previously thought. The action role-playing game was developed by BioWare, the Canadian house that created Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. A limited edition and standard edition of Jade Empire will be available in North America on April 12.
Set in a fantasy realm based on ancient Chinese mythology, Jade Empire combines real-time battles with role-playing elements. Gamers will play as multiple characters, learning various styles of martial arts and weapon proficiencies. Using both brawn and chi-fueled magic, gamers will battle human and supernatural enemies in exotic locations.
A limited edition of Jade Empire will feature a few exclusives. A playable character, Monk Zeng, and his spade-staff fighting style, will be included. The limited edition will also come in different packaging and include making-of featurettes.
Both versions of Jade Empire are rated M for Mature and will retail for $49.95. For more information on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage (http://www.gamespot.com/xbox/rpg/jadeempire/index.html).

Molyenaux was showing off the Movies at the recent GDC and was generating
