I would love to see it. I am one of those idiots that like to see people like Rice still play. I didn't want Jordan to quit basketball. I don't like great things to end. Call it a weakness. But, do you think in the back of his mind, Rice is thinking 4-5 more years?

No, he's probably thinking 1 at most.

I think that Rice will hang around till 48. It would be great for him to get 2,000 catches too.

Rice's career has been over for two years. He just does not know it yet.
The "Great Thing" that was Jerry Rice's career has already ended. Now he is an average 4th WR. I would much rather see him hang it up than continue on in this capacity.

I want to see him keep playing for the seahawks...hes worse then a really fast young guy, and the seahwaks play the rams twice a year(this time 3)...hes hurting them, so keep playing Jerry!!

For fans sake Rice should bow out now. He's a shadow of his former self on the field and has lost most if not all of his speed.
As far as for Rice himself, if he loves the game and the lifestyle he should play until he's bored or no team will sign him to the roster.

Yup. As long as he's good enough to make an NFL roster, I don't get the cries for retirement. who cares if he plays past his prime or isn't the best right now?
I can't imagine him playing as long as Blanda, but I can see another year or two I think.

Hopefully not. A 40 yarder now is an adventure for andersen.

I agree, I don't think any WR should be embarrassed when a 40-something beats them for the roster spot. Apparently their is more to being a WR than just being 22. :D

Rice might not have his old speed, but you'd think the Seahawks would try to pass to him at least? Their other WR drop everything that comes their way! Rice still has awesome hands. See that one-handed catch for a TD? The other Seahawks WR would never do that.

I thought that odd as well. I'd bet he could play a Troy Brown type role in an offense...third down, little patterns over the middle.

I predict he spends his final season in SF. Just a little prediction.

I think he should stay as long as he wants to. He's earned the right to go out on his own terms.
Also, I'd like to see him keep pushing those career records out farther so that jerks like Randy Moss can never catch him.

And from a self centered viewpoint, it is still nice to turn on the TV on Sunday afternoon and see a guy who was playing when you were a kid.

It is a sad day when your favorite players retire. It means you are old. old, old, old.

This is a lot of it for me. I'm going to weep the day the final Tecmo Super Bowl player retires from the NFL. :(
We're talking 4 years MAX on that at this point.

Yup. As long as he's good enough to make an NFL roster,
Frankly, I think Seattle signed him just to be a mentor to their young recievers who keep dropping everything in site rather than actually being talented enough to be their 4th WR. He had a better shot in Oakland of being used.

Apparently Jerry Rice didn't teach those young'ens how to catch a friggin' football. Good Lord, could they drop any more critical passes last week than they did and not get blown out?

I understood at the beginning of the season the talk about Rice being signed as a mentor to younger players. But given that Mike Holmgren has said in several interviews that he doesn't believe in that kind of mentoring (I remember vividly him scoffing at the notion of Doug Flutie "mentoring" Drew Brees), I doubt that was the case.
Holmgren has said many times that all players are competing for jobs, he doesn't think that there's as much mentoring as many people would like to believe. Frankly, he doesn't strike me as the kind of guy that would keep Rice on the team if he didn't feel he could help the team win on the field.

He'll get his 200 TD's, then hang it up.

How many does he have right now?
I think he just might go for 2,000 catches. Might take 6-7 more years but it's ''doable.''

One of the Tecmo Super Bowl message boards out there. I have it linked at the office... if I remember tomorrow I'll post the address.
THey don't always keep it precisely up to date. I've had to make submissions in the pst when something's obviously wrong.

Look at the downward trend of his catches. He'll be down below 1 per year at that rate.
At his 2004 performance level, it would take him 18 years to get to 2000.
Even if someone were to give him a job as #1 WR somewhere (which he was in OAK in 2003) it would take him 9 years to get there. I doubt someone would
(a) Give Rice a job as #1 wideout.
(b) Have him keep that job for 9 years. When he'll be 51.
The 2000 catches is nowhere near 'doable'
I think the 200 TDs is doable, as he is at 197. He could hang on for one or two more years and catch 3 TDs.

Hasn't he only "lost" 2 fumbles in his career or something like that?
