It's not going to be on until 9pm Central, but this will be one of two chances y'all will get to see the Miners play on national TV this year (well, until March Madness, that is). Nevada isn't quite the same team they were last year when they went to the Sweet Sixteen, but they are still one of the top three teams in the WAC and have a monster in Nick Fazekas, a sophomore out of Colorado who has been tearing up the conference.

The Miners are currently 13-2 and have finally started to click over thier last four games (68-42 vs Princeton, 91-77 @ Boise, 96-67 vs Rice, and 105-70 vs Tulsa). The Miners attack all starts and ends with PG Fili Rivera, who has an amazing 4.2 A/TO ratio (the Miners had both of their losses with Rivera was out with an ankle injury) and averages 6.7 APG.

Rivera dishes the ball to Omar Thomas, an amazing mid-range shooter who is averaging 19.9ppg on 54.3% shooting, and Jason Williams, an athletic freak who is scoring 13.9ppg as well as being an outstanding defender.

I don't have time to go into more detail, but if you're interested MinerDigs poster MinerManiac has a mid-season review up that you can read here (http://www.collegehoopsnet.com/WAC/utep/050112.htm).

Be sure to watch the game, FOFC, and root for the Miners!!! :D

I'm watching this in honor of you, Jeebs... even though Doug Gottleib is doing the color.

It pains me to say it since he's a fellow Oklahoma State guy... but I just can't stand him.

Wound up being a crazy game with the Miners blowing a 24 point lead and found themselves down by seven early in the second half. Most of the second half was back and forth, but the Miners were down by three with time running out when Fili Rivera hit an amazing off balance three to send it to overtime.

Overtime was the Omar Thomas show, and the Miners wound up winning by three...

It certainly wasn't the blowout that I was expecting when the Miners were up 39-15, but it was a gutsy performance by the Miners. And I give tons of credit to Nevada, they found a way to come roaring back and were giving us fits for the second third of the game.

Time to update the ol' sig... :)

A great game overall. Too bad that UNR had to lose this tight one.
