Just read a GameInformer article about the ESPN/EA NFL rights war. They said that ESPN is not ready to give up football and are leaning towards "total customization football". Nothing was mentioned about which units this would be available on (PS, X-Box, PC) but they did mention a $50 price tag. There was also a quote from a VC employee who said, "Luke might have just had his hand cut off by Vader, and Han might be frozen in carbonite and in the hands of Jabba, but that's just the end of act two, and the war with the evil Empire isn't over yet. Not by a longshot," according to Game Informer.

Interesting....

They get points for making a Star Wars analogy. :)

Agreed. If they can print that on the back of the box next year, I'll buy it the day it comes out.

I don't know if I'd go all the way back up to $50. You're still competing with Madden, albeit indirectly. $29.99 would seem to make sense; higher to compensate for changed development costs, still low enough to undercut some Madden sales, particularly if the customization is open enough to allow 3rd party roster sets.

I'm a little surprised, frankly, that the Playmakers license went to Midway while Sega still had the ESPN license.

'ESPN: Ewok Football'?

This could maybe actually end up being a good thing for the industry. If ESPN concedes that the casual gamer will buy Madden because it will be the only game with NFL teams and players, then maybe ESPN will focus more on gameplay over glitz, and target the hard core football simmers.

We can only hope anyway.

Excellent. This is just what I was hoping Sega would do.

I just hope that the PC gets a version of this, assuming that it will come out at all. And, I hope they make it 3rd party friendly.

Hmmm, Front Page Sports: ESPN Football sounds good to me!
