View Full Version : Vorlon Empire - Keepers of the Galaxy

The others are young, and we are old. It falls upon us to keep these children civil. Let them fight, let them learn, but some must always survive. We are the final arbiters of the universe. Disobedience to the Vorlon Empire means death.

We will take no part in their wars, save to ensure the survival of their species. We will do only what we must to see that the balance in maintained.

In the meantime, we will watch these children grow.

I'm breaking out MOO2, just to see what happens here. Basically, I'm cheating. The game is set on Impossible difficulty, huge universe, with everyone starting at pre-warp (no tech, basically). Except me. At turn 1, I give myself every technology. We are the ancient uber-powerful beings of the galaxy, the mighty and overly enigmatic Vorlon Empire (my tribute to Bab5).

As the mighty Vorlons, we will only colonize the 5 planets in our home system. I will be taking Orion shortly, just so I can get their ship captain (who is a badass). We won't be colonizing it, only clearing out the Guardian ship. The system itself is up for grabs after that.

We will only be building a grand total of 8 warships, split into 4 fleets. 4 ships are our general purpose Ship to Ship destroyers, killing machines armed to the teeth with plasma cannons. Each of those ships gets 1 of the allowed 4 leaders. Their only support vessel is the Apocalypse, of which we build 4. These suckers have only 1 weapon, the mighty Stellar Converter. While being a pretty badass ship vs ship weapon, it's claim to fame is it can destroy entire planets, leaving a lovely asteroid belt in its place. That is my final weapon of choice for those who dare defy me.

Now. As to the purpose. Obviously, there isn't gonna be much that can stand against me for a LONG time, even on impossible, even with only 8 ships (I know how to build some seriously badass ships). The goal is, as the story hinted at, to keep all races in the game for as long as possible. My guess is once the Orion Senate convenes and actually declares a leader (which won't be us, since we'll only have 1 system, thus, few votes) is when we will respond with deadly force.

We'll see where this goes. I've done this once before, and it was kinda fun. The final fun will be, if people actually follow this, I shall be dubbing you fellow Vorlons. We decide as a race as to when and how we shall intervene in any given crisis situation. IE - If a race stands at the brink of extinction, obviously we stop that from happening. But, our level of response on the aggressor...do we reduce his homeworld to rubble, do we simply massacre their fleet, do we conquer half their worlds and give them to the ones we just saved? Whatevah. The wisdom of the many shall dictate the fate of these children races.

The Children

Psilons
This humanoid species may be a cause for concern in this cruel galaxy. They are pacifists by nature, driven only by the desire to better their technological abilities. While we respect their ways, as technology is the key to power, we worry that more aggressive species will try and move in on them. Let all others be warned now. We will tolerate no attacks on the Psilons.

Elerians
Strange race. Another humanoid species, this one rude, disobedient, and altogether unpleasant. When we first made our presence known to them, they did not hesitate in insulting their betters. While they claim to be at the forefront of ecological development, their xenophobia may be their undoing. Even this vile species must be saved, though. Even these creatures have their uses.

Sakkra
Lizardlike people, who breed, as the humans say, like rabbits. They too are focused on ecological development, which is not to be surprising, given their rapid overpopulation. Our contact with them has led us to believe they are a ruthless race, and will stop at nothing to further their goals. They will, however, stop at us.

Bulrathi
Bipedal animals, with the sense and intelligence of the same. Scholars on the Vorlon homeworld wonder how these creatures ever became a space faring race. They are overly aggressive, and bent on expanding without control. Were it not for us watching them, their power could quickly overwhelm the galaxy.

Meklars
Another strange race. Long ago, we witnessed them shrug away their physical selves, electing to turn themselves into a cybernetic species. Generations later, we watched as they evolved to become dependant on these devices, to the detriment of their physical shells. They are driven by technology, and like their xenophobic siblings the Elerians, have no interest in the affairs of others. A dangerous mix, one we must carefully watch.

Silicoid
Long, long ago, before our people reached the stars, we wondered if other species would be like us, or be of some totally bizarre origin. Both sides were correct. The Silicoids are literally sentient beings of minerals. Entering their minds has always been difficult for us, but they are an industrial people who despise the other races. It has long been debated by the Vorlon Empire if they should count as a species we should be protecting, but for now, they will be treated as all other life is treated.

Human
And last, the Humans. Decadent, arrogant, and resourceful all at the same time. They were one of the few to treat us with respect, and we are forced to respect their honorable ways. They are driven industrialists, and a race many of the others will likely listen to, when they gain first contact. Unlikely as it seems, this race may be the most dangerous of them all.

It has begun. What was a flood of scientific reasearch has now become unchecked expansion of the universe, led by those stange lizard folk, the Sakkra.

Their unchecked aggression has caused concern among us, but they have now declared war with the Humans, who have expanded little beyond their home star. A fleet of Sakkra ships is en route to their only star outside their homeworld.

With regrets, our role as peacekeepers has already reached possible bloodshed. The Vendetta has been dispatched to Ryleh to protect the fledgling Human colony there. Should we fail to arrive in time, things may grow worse. Order must be maintained at all costs.

Coffee Warlord

The Emperor is pleased to announce that Ryleh has been returned to Human control, much to their bewilderment.

Not long ago, the Vendetta existed hyperspace on the far side of the system, which had been overrun already by Sakkra forces. Shortly thereafter, Human forces engaged and relclaimed the system. Our presence had not yet been detected. However, a Colony Ship bearing the Sakkra banner was en route to the system, along with a small contingent of transport ships. As the Human fleets were occupied elsewhere, the decision was made to engage the Sakkra ships. A brief flash of light, no doubt reported by Human sensors, and the Sakkras were vaporized.

Peace between the two races was quickly reached, and the Vendetta now holds position in an unclaimed system near the front between these people. We suspect that war will break out again, and the Humans remain too weak to properly defend themselves. For now, we wait and observe. The death of a few thousand colonists is nothing against the possible extinction of a race.

It seems we have identified our problem child.

The galaxy has unfolded well, thus far. Aside from the fledgling dispute between the Humans and the Sakkra, no major conflicts have broken out. Until perhaps, and the troublemaker is again the same Sakkra race.

They have declared war against the peaceful Psilons. Perhaps this time, though, they will learn. With the Psilon Empire having recently conquered Orion, the Sakkras, who were near that star, launched an invasion. The attack vessel Archon waited for the hapless Sakkra fleet to arrive, at which point they were methodically obliterated.

However, we have decided a lesson must be taught. Our numbers are few, and if the Sakkra people think they will be permitted to attack far weaker races at their leisure, they are sorely mistaken. The Archon and her support planet killer will make their way to the Tejat system, and visit the Sakka colony there. An example must be made. The price of disobedience is death.

The children are growing in power...and they are restless.

It seems our original assumptions were indeed wrong. The only civilization to not expand past their home system remains the Bulrathi, who have kept isolated in a far corner of the galaxy. The rest of the younger races have build, expanded...and are now set on conquering.

The Humans and the Sakkra are again fighting one another. The Silicoids and Elerians are at war, and even the peaceful Psilons have entered conflict with the Meklars.

We are however, pleased to note that no race engaged in hostilities appears on the cusp of defeat. Our small fleets wait orbiting distant stars where none of the upstart children will find us. For now, we shall merely observe. These petty wars have not grown into full scale conquest, and there shall always be sibling rivalry.

Communication from the Vorlon ship Hellfire.

A Silicoid fleet, including several warships and troop transports, is en route to the Elerian homeworld. We will overtake them in 3 days.

3 Days Later

Silicoid fleet eliminated. Elerian civilians whisper our names in reverence, as should be expected.

Foolish children, when will they learn?

The Orion Senate has convened, where the younger races go to attempt to declare a new leader. As with all attempts at universal leadership, it has long been a tool for political gain, nothing more. Stalemates mark its voting, and we believe no true leader will ever be hailed out of the Senate. Indeed, we believe no true leader SHOULD be voted upon. No one race should dominate over all others. If we believed that, we would already be high rulers of the galaxy.

Unfortunately, these upstart children have yet to learn. They nominate...us....to oppose the Sakkra as galactic governors. We make our position known by abstaining.

Meklars
The Meklars have forged a modest civilization near the borders of our space. They border the formidable Humans, and countless skirmished have gone on between them in the past, to no real end. They currently and inexplicably remain in a senseless war with the weakling Elerians. They are no true threat to the stability of the galaxy right now, and we have not been forced to intervene against their ships.

Humans
Dangerous, foolish children. They are a power in the this galaxy now, and control the largest amounts of systems. It seems they have forgotten that not long ago, we protected the very existance of their race. They continue to struggle, engaging in skirmishes with many other races. We are forced to keep a constant eye on their fleet movements, for if they move in force against some races, we will have to punish them severely.

Silicoids
The rock people remain a weak race in the corner of the galaxy. They have publicly stated their distaste for us, despite the fact that our ships were, not long ago, orbiting their world, giving the Meklars a moment of pause.

Elerians
The Psilons tried to invade their world, and we were forced to stop them. The Sakkra invaded their homeworld, and we turned them back. The Vorlon ship Vendetta has performed admirably in protecting this species, yet they bicker and insult us at every turn. Ingrates.

Sakkra
The balance of power has shifted. Where the Sakkra were the force among the younger races, the Humans have begun to outstrip them. Granted, their massive breeding ability has kept them a major player, they are growing weaker. We may yet have to weaken them more, for no race has been more trouble than the Sakkra. Scores of their ships have been turned aside by our people, and we fear that our lesson of destroying an entire planet has fallen on deaf ears.

Psilons
For a supposed pacifist nation, they seem hell bent on warfare. The warship Archon has been stationed near Bulrathi space for some time, keeping the Psilon aggressors at bay. Their total size is small, but they seem to not learn from the mistakes of the other races. If we must, we will take the vaunted Orion system from them and give it to another, more compliant race.

Bulrathi
Could it be we were wrong about these creatures? Out of all of the child races, they have been the most respectful to their elders. We have long watched this species, who have kept to themselves in their corner of the galaxy. They still remain incapable of defending themselves, and our ships watch their space for signs of intrusion.

Coffee Warlord
01-16-2005, 02:03 PM
Will they ever learn? The Bulrathi, thinking they are invincible with our protection, have begun a war of conquest on the Meklars. The animalistic heathens ignore their past, and the Meklars now face the very real threat of anhiliation.

The Diablo sits near Meklar space now, waiting for the telltale sign of Bulrathi ships approaching the Meklar homeworld. Any attempted incursion will result in severe penalty. We will no longer tolerate saving one species just to see them enforce their will on another.

Insolent.

Disobedient.

Dead.

A sigh of regret. A massive armada of 37 Psilon ships was spotted near Elerian space. While they were in no immediate danger, a force that large deserved close monitoring. The Hellfire remained stationed near a main warzone, and the Psilon armada arrived...and actively sought our 'fleet'.

Thirty seven brave ships attacked our ship. Thirty seven brave ships died amidst fire and chaos. No survivors.

The Psilons must pay for their insolence. We will cleanse the root, so that the branches will repair themselves. Their home world of Mentar must be destroyed.

Excerpt from the memoirs of a Psilon citizen living on their homeworld of Mentar Prime...

3495.1...scanners have indicated Vorlon ships on approach to our homeworld. News of the utter anhiliation of our entire battle fleet has shocked our people. We didn't stand a chance against them. Scores of our people are now dead, because we thought we could handle a single Vorlon ship. Now they're coming for us.

3495.2...we see them in orbit above our world. This is the end. Their massive planet killer has blocked out the sun, and thousands stand out in the dark, pleading to the Vorlons for their lives. There is no response from them, however. No news whatsoever.
What have we done?

.......they have left! Why? Did the Vorlons finally find a shred of pity in whatever passes for a heart?

3495.3...they left our home untouched, but the mark of the Vorlons did not pass us by entirely. Reports have reached us that our colony on Orion, homeworld of the ancients, has been anhiliated by Vorlon ships. The planet remains intact, but no Psilon colonist was left alive. They did send one tranmission to us before they left for wherever their ships hide..."You are no longer fit."

The Humans, it seems, are more powerful than we could have expected.

When we first revealed ourselves to the others, we had but one warning for them. Do not approach Vorlon space. For centuries, our edict has been enforced. Any who stray into our border, dies.

Seventy eight ships, bearing Human markings, disobeyed our commands. Will they never listen? They passed through our automated defenses, and were within striking distance of our homeworld itself.

But we were waiting. Perpetual daylight shined down on our homeworld. Human ships, desperately fighting, our attack vessel Diablo repelling the invaders. As fast as the enemy died, it was not fast enough. As our mighty ship destroyed the last of the Human threat, it too succumbed to its wounds. As powerful as our ships are, not even Vorlon technology can withstand the neverending barrage that we saw today.

We underestimated these children. It shall not happen again. Obviously they never expected to lose that battle, and we expect they are disheartened by it. But they must be taught a lesson. The Psilons were denied access to Orion. The Humans forfeit would be far, far greater.

As our ships left the newly created asteroid field, formed from the still-smoldering debris of a planet once called Earth, the Vorlon leaders wondered where they went wrong.

well, this clearly isn't movie-reality as Earth would never end up destroyed!
