Keeping with the current trend.

I don't even know if he's on current ballots, but dammit, he should be.

I'd vote for Tasker before I would Boomer.....

Boomer was a very good QB. But 'very good' isn't quite good enough for the HoF. At least IMHO.

I think he has a HOF worthy first name.

I thought he was a good player for a long time but he wouldn't get my vote

As far as lefty QB's waiting to get into the hall, he needs to get in line behind Kenny Stabler

Eh. I like Boomer, but I don't think he'll ever get voted in. I'd vote for him, but I seem to have misplaced my HOF ballot...

Even growing up a Bengals fan, no.

Still the second best qb in team history.

Kenny A was the man

Or so I hear

There a two other borderline QBs that would get in before him and neither of them is likely to make it. So I'm guessing that Boomer has no chance.

BTW, I'm talking about Simms and Stabler.

No way Esiason gets in solely on his playing career. It's his work on TV that puts him over the top.

Speaking of which, did anyone else catch him telling everyone that Peyton Manning is this generation's Dan Marino during the postgame show for the Colts/Pats? Dan immediately cried out, "Hey! I made it to a Superbowl!"

They were saying on the radio that after initially joking with Boomer jovially about it, Marino then fixed Boomer with a "I can't wait to get you backstage" glare. Did anyone see this? Were the radio guys exaggerating? Did Marino really get pissy with Boomer? I was on a plane and could not see it.

This is true. He looked extremely pissed at Boomer. Boomer tried to backtrack by saying that Peyton has to carry the team, like Dan did....I'm not sure if it worked.

And Gumbel sat there like an idiot, as usual.

Boomer played for a lot of teams who were down in the 4th in Q. Problem is, those teams lost more often than not.

Something I am guessing you could say about every QB, including Elway (who has more 4th quarter comebacks than anyone). I would imagine that every QB who has started more than say, 30 games, has a winning % below .50 when behind at the beginning of the 4th quarter.

Marino looked very upset with that comment.

As far as Boomer, no way does he make it to the Hall of Fame. He was a good QB, even a very good QB, but he wasn't one of the top QB's of his generation. Not HOF worthy.

Fair enough about the winning % below .500 in the 4th Q. My point was really that Boomer was chucking the ball a lot in the 4th Q and his winning% for all games was not the best (i would guess anyhow. he played on some bad teams in the 90s)

QBs not in the HOF that are ahead of Boomer in several stats:

Please understand that I was not arguing for Boomer's inclusion in the hall. Not every good player should go, and I see Boomer as being a classic example of a good player who should not be enshrined.

I just don't think that losing more than you win when behind entering the fourth is a good reason to exclude him, since (I assume) every HoF QB did the same thing.

There is no debate here. Move along.

By the way - how good was Neil Lomax? He completely stands out on that ranking of QB career ratings - both being from an earlier era and getting absolutely no hype at all. He definitely had very little around him, and played on some pretty poor teams, but I remember him being a very accurate, effective passer who was ridiculously injury-prone. (In my fantasy league, the running joke was that you had to spend two draft picks -- one for him, and one for his hip)

His name always jumps out at me as well. IIRC-- from playing Strat with my uncle every weekend-- he was a good running QB as well. At least he was relative to his era.

He was the only thing that you had to be concerned with if your opponent toook the Cardinals.
