Boomer was a very good QB. But 'very good' isn't quite good enough for the HoF. At least IMHO.

They were saying on the radio that after initially joking with Boomer jovially about it, Marino then fixed Boomer with a "I can't wait to get you backstage" glare. Did anyone see this? Were the radio guys exaggerating? Did Marino really get pissy with Boomer? I was on a plane and could not see it.

This is true. He looked extremely pissed at Boomer. Boomer tried to backtrack by saying that Peyton has to carry the team, like Dan did....I'm not sure if it worked.

And Gumbel sat there like an idiot, as usual.

Something I am guessing you could say about every QB, including Elway (who has more 4th quarter comebacks than anyone). I would imagine that every QB who has started more than say, 30 games, has a winning % below .50 when behind at the beginning of the 4th quarter.

Marino looked very upset with that comment.

As far as Boomer, no way does he make it to the Hall of Fame. He was a good QB, even a very good QB, but he wasn't one of the top QB's of his generation. Not HOF worthy.

Please understand that I was not arguing for Boomer's inclusion in the hall. Not every good player should go, and I see Boomer as being a classic example of a good player who should not be enshrined.

I just don't think that losing more than you win when behind entering the fourth is a good reason to exclude him, since (I assume) every HoF QB did the same thing.

He definitely had very little around him, and played on some pretty poor teams, but I remember him being a very accurate, effective passer who was ridiculously injury-prone. (In my fantasy league, the running joke was that you had to spend two draft picks -- one for him, and one for his hip)

His name always jumps out at me as well. IIRC-- from playing Strat with my uncle every weekend-- he was a good running QB as well. At least he was relative to his era.

He was the only thing that you had to be concerned with if your opponent toook the Cardinals.
