2005 Coach of the Year:

http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/us/sp/v/ncaaf/teams/1/80x60/mmk.gif Joseph Au
Joseph led Michigan to a 10-2 record and a Big Ten title this year. He also won the Orange Bowl over Oklahoma 38-3.

News and Notes:
Troy Robertson has retired from his position of defensive coordinator.

Darnell Finch, an offensive tackle, has been made academically ineligible for the upcoming season for failing a class.

Maurice Duncan, a wide receiver, has left your team because of poor grades this year.

Ellis Torelli, a kicker, has been made academically ineligible for the upcoming season for failing a class.

Ty Conley, a tight end, has been made academically ineligible for the upcoming season for failing a class.

Brandon Samuels, a quarterback, has left your team because of last season's academic problems.

*Can it possibly get any worse for us? I need a drink... as I close my email out, I get my coat and hat and head for this small bar close to home. I need some time to think and that place is perfect. Safety, Lester Diaz sees me in the hallway and says, "Coach, I've made my decision... I'm going to stay and play my last year here at Missouri." I crack a smile and head out the door.

*On the printer is a fresh copy of the 2006 roster.

ill be breaking this down more later tonight, but 3-4 looks to be best for our team on defense...overall we should be ok, especially with Diaz back(even if he didnt develop much...)

Team Captains: S Lester Diaz and S Toby Stinemetz...Diaz was a given, and out of last year guy Stinemetz hs done better then the others...Stephenson was the most gifted besides Diaz, but has done nothing statistically, and Rose is just starting for the first time. Horton almost got the second spot, and as i write maybe he should have...i just think he benefits from being the #2 LB behind ford as ford gets most of the block...Crap, now i dont know...Rueben might have gotten it too, but now he might not even start...Lets just go with our safties and ride them this year!

Rose and Stone will start, and del greco will back them up...Anderson and Brown red-shirt...pretty simple to me...Rose could be a pass-rush guy based on what ive seen in the past, so i hope he has a solid year, as on this line we will need it. Winfred Anderson, our stud sacker last year, landed us his little brother...lets hope he does as well as the younger battle did compared to the older.

Whats is there to say here??...Timberlane should start and Logan can back him up in the 3-4...i cant see bars so if Logan is better play him...I dont think you need to redshit headrick...i want toget him out of the program as quick as possible...if hes not smart and popular, we could even cut him and hope to get a better walk-on...

Danner developed nicely thids off season and earned himself a spot in the 3-4 starting line-up. Rueben and Herb are damn close, so go by bars on who should start and which should be the off the bench guy....Hernandez should RS...

Were loaded here, for next year as well....Ford and Horton have to start following their all Big-12 seasons...We cant red-shirt either, so we are looking pretty here this year....certianly fitting into the 3-4 perfectly

Bernie and Wesley have to start...not much to it besides that....not really even a close calll...RS Flannery, and we will see how Sheckton and Martinez do in the nickel and dime...kinda a situation where we need young blood badly, but more on that later

Diaz and Stinemetz...was there ever any question? Anything close to last season would be a great thing...god bless Lester Diaz and Troy MO(Mizzourah!) RS Owen and Streb, and let Glover and Wheeler back them up...you could send Patterson back to CB and we would still be fine...doesnt matter much with him, since he is in his last year and not going to play at S any time soon.

Those should all be solid moves....None are really needed, so we should be fine RS them all

Potential Roster Moves:
Cut DE headrick?? He has 0 skill and a walk-onwould probly be better...just make sure hes not a smart kid(we need em), or popular as it will hurt team spirit if he is...

S Pattersson back to CB? he used to be one, maybe he would be better back there....he wont be used at S, and could play at CB....just a thought...

Recruiting Needs:

DE: 1 guy needed...not desperate, just a roster spot as he most likely wont play more then a year since he is behind Anderson and Brown.

DT:1, or 2 if you get rid of Headrick...we just dont have any youth here, but two of our guys will be there for 3 years....we can fill this next year as well, so no biggie.

ILB: 1 more...this year really...were looking like we have a nice yearly rotation here

OLB:1-2, but they can come next season...1 would be nice this year, but anything works...

CB:1 at least this year...another this year or next will be needed

S:Were ok here...stud rule applies, but were pretty set here for the future

I've also decided to go with a Wing-T Formation for the offense. It says, emphasis is on the run, but passing options are still open. Sounds perfect for our anemic offense. :)

Re: Former player(s) report

Dear Coach,

The NFL would like to report that DE Kenny Richardson has been signed by the St. Louis Rams during the late free agency period.

As part of the agreement between the NFL and NCAA, we are required to send out an email report of former graduates to their respective schools.

Future emails will only come when a significant even has happened for the respective player.

Thank you Coach,

The National Football League

(I'd like to think I had a hand in that :))

Our new offensive scheme is looking good, although we'll see once conference play starts. Still, a win is a win!! ;)

I like to refer to this play as the "Okie Doke". We line up on our 18 yard line. We fake two screens and then the quarterback pretends to scramble for his life. Just before he gets sacked in the back of the endzone, we throw it to a receiver at the goalline.

From there, he'll run the entire 100 yards of the field for the score.

Hey, it worked. ;)

A field goal to win the game with no time left!! What a win!!!

RB Marlon Prior has another great game and is currently #3 in the nation in rushing. Of course Mo Cable's 9 run blocks help! :)

Remember this?
RB Marlon Prior from Ritenour high school in St. Louis, Missouri has accepted our invitation to attend Missouri next year. Marlon has rushed the ball 226 times for 1409 yards and 11 TD's. He was 9th in the Rivals.com state rankings and ranked #3 by position. This kid can flat out run the football and has that "toughness" about him. Our scout, who is decent in running backs, rates him an 83 out of 100.
His strength is gaining extra yardage and his weakness is kick returning.

I like the 3-4, it has been working great so far, it's a bend don't break type of defense.

At the press conference, I was flabbergasted.

First of all, I'd like you to meet the #1 rusher in college football... Marlon Prior. His performance was the best I've ever seen on a football field. On defense, we held Oklahoma State to 62 total yards and Rose had 3.5 sacks!! I was reaching for words as I was overwhelmed by the team's performance today.

"This team has a special place in my heart after today, they were really psyched today and it showed." "Every thing we've taught them this year has come full circle."

As I stepped down from the podium, I felt like an NFL coach who just won the Super Bowl. What a game, I thought as I headed into the locker room to address the team.

"Each and every one of you played your hearts out today, and for that I thank you."

After the team meeting, I went into my office and told my coaches tonight is on me, let's go and get something to eat... and drink!!!!!!

I don't know what to cry about first. The fact that we were about 17 yards from a tie ball game with 54 seconds left or that we threw 2 INTs for touchdowns in less than a minutes worth of time.

Well, Prior was under the weather and Nebraska's defense was everywhere. They beat us up and quite frankly, I'm glad to get out of Lincoln. Unfortunetly it's only the start of this 3 game road trip.

No, but I wish it was. I kind of made a template for it, but I still have to adjust it here and there.

This team was looking toward K-State, but we managed to pull ourselves together and get out of here with a W.

Prior is so much fun to watch out on the football field running the ball. He is still the #1 rusher in college football. I'm so happy he's a freshman! Of course Gilbert Jennings called me and said he could have gained those yards behind the Wing-T. :)

The Wing T has been really effective. When Payne follows through with his fakes, the passing game really complements Prior and the rushing attack.

Our main problem appears to be when we have to ditch the run and throw often.

Maybe the o-coordinator should work with his boys then ;) ...at least my boys are keeping it up pretty good, though i fear this k-state game could get ugly...in a few years we could hand with them, but not yet...

It's really been the curse of Wing T football for years. The running attack is supposed to be featured. Most of the passing involves faking to the backs. Trust me, the passing game is less than fancy.

So, when we have to scrap the running game and try to pass every down...we're in deep trouble.

You know a heck of a lot more than I do Ardent. Payne's not even that great of a QB, but he survives because of Prior and a few of our OL. I can't wait until Strother get's in there.

The clock showed 1:04 left in the game and when Cornell Dominguez took the ball 14 yards for the score, I stood there frozen in time. The run seemed like it lasted longer than the game itself....then.....BOOM! cheering from all sides of the packed house in Kansas. Players like Tyrus Rose sitting on the sideline, shoulder wrapped in ice packs and bandages. A team that laid it all out on a day that was perfect for an upset.

After the mandatory press conference, I went back out onto the field and looked around. We just took the #2, well now #1 team to the brink of defeat, smacked them in their mouth, and poured out our souls. Yet, another W in K-State's history books and an L in ours. I shrugged my shoulders and went to the team bus for the return trip home. I really hope the nation saw what Missouri has to offer today.

Later that night I had a message from my brother, "At least you beat the spread". With that, I turned the lights off and went into a deep sleep.

A big win for us as I thought we would come out flat, even at home. Good thing is, we didn't and Iowa State had to scramble in the second half.

Prior has another 200 yard day and is 46 yards behind K-State's running back with one game left to play. What a year this freshman has had. He loses his buddy, Mo Cable off the O line next year. Mo has 124 key run blocks, the 4th best in the nation.

Kansas's sophomore kicker Otis Graham missed a 26 yard field goal with 0:08 seconds left in the game and when the kick sailed to the right, we were jubliated. What a way to end the regular season! My prediction of 6-5 was a tad conservative, but we exceeded my expectations. I can't wait to hear the Bowl game annoucements!

No problem, you can use the same one for all I care. It definitly helps give a better picture of the recruit, especially when Ardent and Blade are trying to get a visual without seeing the game itself. :)

wow, nice little run on recruits there...no showstoppers but hopefully some good depth players...looks like you loaded up on defense to be sure. Make sure you hit the red targets who have distance as #1 want in MO...they will usually visit and whatnot regardless of the red rating

What can I say? This team has really come together and I'm very proud of this group. Once again, Freshman running back Marlon Prior shows his greatness on the football field. As he holds up the GMAC Player of the Game trophy, I can't help but to smile and think about having him out on that field next year.

9 wins? Much better than I or this staff had anticipated this year. Who knows what would have happened if we pull out that win over K-State.

I think I'm learning the recruiting side of things, at least compared to the previous two years. I'm also emphasizing academics in this program.

Great job coaches! You get little credit, but it was because of this staff we did so well this year. We changed our philosophy and it seems perfect for this team.

RB Norm Rust
DE Al Stone

Are all at risk for failing a class this year. My coaching blocks are used up, so all I can do is call these guys and reiterate how important passing grades are.

Well, looking over the 2006 season and my 3 year tenure so far at Missouri, I would have to say that this has been my best season overall. I think we made many strides this year and I hope we can continue to improve.

It's always tough as the season comes to a close. Players leave, coaches evaluate their futures, and new players come in eager to learn.

I shake the hands of players leaving one by one and when I get to Mo Cable I say, "I'll be rooting for you on draft day". He smiles and says, "Thanks coach, it's been fun playing for you." With that, I continue my good byes and start to think about 2007.

Actually, I listed the BCS going into the bowl championship series. This is how it panned out after the BCS games. Texas lost to Nebraska early in the season and then beat them for the Big 12 title. Notre Dame beat Nebraska and is still ranked behind Texas. :)

Bah! They should've been in the title game. Nebraska's win early in the year was a fluke.
