See the latest Plug and play game released? Apparently, EA Sports put out a controller that looks like the old Genesis controller with NHL 95 and Madden 95 on it.

I like the World Poker Tour Plug and Play one myself.. interesting how they handle Multiplayer :)

Is that the version of Madden where the ambulance runs over the players, and you can injure people with late hits?

If so, I'm there.

I loved that Madden. I would always piss off my friend with late hits and then hope for injury.

It's kind of like in the movie Swingers when T hits Superfan 99's Gretzky and he get's injured and is bleeding on the ice!

I lost most of my youth to NHL 95'. I wonder how they will deal with the rosters and the teams that are no longer around?

It's going to be a straight port of the Genesis cartridges I believe, (the commercial had a controller similar to the old Genesis one)

TLK

can they do that?

Drooling over the thought of a Super Tecmo Bowl one of these (after someone stole my copy of the original game!!!).

Better yet to ask..

"Can they stop them from doing it?"

As long as it's a port of an old game, why not? (besides, they don't use player names I believe, just #'s)

I think Madden 95' was released with just player numbers but NHL 95' used actual player names. I can see them getting away with just numbers, but that wouldn't be the same.

I am pretty sure that was Madden '92. I too loved when the ambulance made its apperance. I also remember running Barry Sanders for 1000yrd games, since pitchouts to him were unstoppable (I think I had too much free time in college).

I think you're right.

I still might check this out.

Nothing stopping them from re-releasing the game. They had the license to release that version originally, I can't imagine there was anything in the language of the contract preventing them from re-releasing the game in the future.

Where I'd be concerned is the fact that EA seems to have aped the Genesis controller design. I wonder if Sega's patents and such would still be in effect, and if so, whether EA's recent behavior would make Sega more inclined to pursue the matter in court.

Just saw this at Target before I read this post and was very tempted... but didn't pull the trigger. It was $24.99 (single player). I was impressed that you could do the full seasons on it though,

I know for a fact that it was in '93, that was the first console game I ever bought. Sweep plays to the right were unstoppable in that game. Ah, the memories.

Why play a game if you can beat it with the same play every down? That sounds incredibly boring to me. If I had 1 1,000 yard game I would likely never play the game again...

Ever play Tecmo Bowl? The stats were completely unrealistic, but it was great game. I'd take an updated Tecmo Bowl (rosters) , every year over Madden or ESPN....

Ah, Tecmo, one of the few games where winning or losing didn't really matter, but how many ridiculous stats you could roll up did ;).

i'd pick this up if it came with 2 controllers.

I've seen a version that does, although I don't know if one has Madden and the other has NHL, or if they both have both games. But there definitely is a two-controller pack.

The football game got a very negative review (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0001HYSFK/qid=1107636411/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/102-7366874-9092908?v=glance&s=toys&m=A3UN6WX5RRO2AG) at Amazon.com. The hockey game looks pretty good, though.

Gee, and I thought after all the stuff they were doing with the football market, this would be EA's new game:
