I think you ditch the car you used in the heist. You know to avert suspicion.
Ahh, cool. Then I guess I was correct in using the more heavily damaged vehicle of the two. Sweet beans.

1 for 2 on the heist! I'm guessing using a real Tommy Gun is much more effective than a fake one! Too bad it's a 3 hour delay for me until the next one... http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/%7Efof/forums/images/smilies/mad.gif

Can't wait to get to the 'Thief' level, and try out the Organized Crimes thing. Now that sounds cool...

Good gravy! I'm not even close! I think I just barely cracked into the 20% areas as a Shoplifter. Guess that damn 3 hour hiatus from Omerta set me back. http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/%7Efof/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif

No worries, though. I can take solace in the fact that I've advanced further than my first character. Except in riches.

Then again, I haven't shot myself in the foot repeatedly, and thus necessitated the need for health at the blood bank. http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/%7Efof/forums/images/smilies/mad.gif

I've gotten arrested less as I go up levels, but I haven't had a streak of luck yet like I had last night (before I got whacked). Pulled 3 of the $150,000 Benz's in two hours to really fill out my account.

Hoping for a run like that again soon, though I'll be a bit more discreet about the cash in game.

My success with nicking cars isn't the same with this account of mine. I had JeeberDesque success (there's a tongue twister) with low damage W125 Benz' and what nots beforehand, and made mass amounts of cash quickly. Nowadays, I think I either get arrested or get one of those default messages of failure. I think it's more towards the 'arrested' part than anything else.

I guess you're prone to getting arrested more (and longer) if you're a higher rank? I suppose it'll help me 'pace' out that ridiculous 11 click thing.

What's it take to kill somebody?

More balls and bullets than I have right now ;)

Busted a Picciotto out of jail earlier and he was a pretty rich dude ($500,000-$1,000,000) and I was tempted to try to off him, but then I looked at my 0.3% killing rating and decided I'd let him wait in fear ;)

Good question -- I've never attempted to kill anyone. Though, I would assume having a gun and bullets, along with a decent "Killing Skill" level would be ideal. I would assume people on the 'Hitlist' would garner the most buck for the 'bang', so to speak.

I think you need to pay them 2,000,000 and of course it could mean revenge unless you can find a valid reason. But i guess it depends on your hability to negociate with them. Even if i'm killed after that, at least i would have learned a lot, also if i get stronger enought, hoppefully wont' be as easy to kill me if i leave them.

Like you said, they do get the payout. Which in my case is 5.0 mil. That and it also gives the family you're leaving another ally. So unless they are just intent on killing you, it can actually help them to branch out.

Where do witness statements come from?
I mean, you see them on obay, but how do you come by one to auction off in the first place? Is witnessing a crime simply a random occurrence? Or is it something that only occurs if you are involved in the crime yourself?

And, on the same subject, I presume that Witness Statement "of UserName" is a statement concerning the death of "UserName" rather than a statement made by "UserName".

Im almost at 1 million right now and this is only my 2nd day playing... by far the best way to make cash is jacking cars and selling the ones worth over 500$ (ive hit a couple that sold for 150k). The 2nd best way ive found is after pulling off a crime, take the money and bet it all on black at the roulette table, rinse - repeat. Of course there is nothing to that 2nd method, but im an unusually lucky gambler.

If anyone is looking for another mob member, id like to join up. Or if we have a FOFC mob started or starting, I have mega loot and cars to chip in...

JonInMiddleGA

Some random questions, in case anybody has managed to get a feel for the answers.

1) Cars -- there's a warning about holding them too long, they'll be stolen by the Feds. Anybody got a notion about what constitutes "too long"?

2) Getting whacked randomly -- for all of us "orphans" with no family ties, what has been learned about things to avoid doing (other than the obvious like trying to knock off a capo while armed with two bullets & 0.1% kill skill)? I'm pretty sure banking your cash makes you at least somewhat less appealing as a target, keeping a low enough profile to avoid pissing off anybody who can squash you, etc. But anything else that we know/believe/kinda think helps improve the survival odds?

This question is kinda prompted by the fact that I could probably level up to shoplifter later today/tonight, but it'd probably be soon after when I go offline for the night. Should I remain a lowly Pinnochio until morning? Or am I equally likely to be rubbed out regardless of rank?

3) Bullets -- I'm in agreement with those who suggested that the relative scarcity of ammo is intentional, designed to reduce the daily body count. And it certainly makes sense that established players want to hold on to their power as much as possible, including easier elimination of lower-ranked characters. BUT ... "60,000 bullets before you feel safe" as mentioned in one of the guides? Or even 30k bullets? Darned if that doesn't make me wonder if the only real hope of any success in the long term is pretty much random ... avoid notice, live long enough to be at least remotely safe (and effective). Get picked by some killer who scans the jail lists twice a night & picks empty suit victims, and you're screwed. And there isn't really much you can do to change that except join a family ... and even that doesn't look like a serious guarantee.

Okay, all that said -- there's a part of me that understands that there probably is a lot of random luck that plays a role in the "real" mob, so it certainly belongs in a sim of the same. But if being invisible is the real key to survival, I wonder if the very minimal gain toward leveling that comes from (for example) busting people out of jail is worth getting caught & going to jail ... in effect, putting your name on a "who can I kill right now" list for somebody up the food chain.

4) On the other side of the coin, what has been learned about the art of effective killing? I mean, we know it happens, and it seems to be something that is the domain of the higher ranks, but ... how high is high? If the characters are equal in firepower, let's say the backfire is set to 1:1, experience & kill skill are equal, then what are the magic numbers for having a reasonable chance to actually take out your target?

TazFTW
03-10-2005, 05:01 PM
1) Not sure what too long is. I have 4 cars in my safehouse because I'd hate to lose them.

2) I think familyless people with lots of money are the ones that are most targeted. When someone kills you they take your money on hand. I regularly put money in the bank and if I already have money in the bank then I spend or gamble it.

Oh, another question, this time about the Statistics page.

In the listing of the Top 50 Families, there's a reference to "Worth", which is what they appear to be ranked by -- what the heck is that number? Honor Points? Something else?

And, speaking of "Honor Points" ... is that the same thing as the "Points" I see listed at the top of the screen, underneath "Position: #10000k+"? If so, cool. If not, then what the heck are those "Points" at the top?

The best key to survival is to sleep in another town. When I'm fixing to log off I travel to another city where no one will have seen me in jail. Also, if you want in your friends list, you can put me down, sometimes people who are looking for kills will be warned away by having someone on your buddy list who's connected to a family. Here's some info that might help.

I've been going back and forth between Baltimore & NY with random stops to "sleep". I just kind of stumbled into this but it's a pretty good route to move booze and glue or marijuana from Baltimore to NY and then almaretto from NY to Baltimore. You'll get arrested some for sure, but you can pretty much get double your return, I've even been able to make about a 600% profit on glue some time. Plus NY is pretty big so it seems kind of easy to get "lost" in. For those who are starting out or aren't with a family yet, come on up here.

Cap O -- I wasn't planning to bid unless nobody else did, and that was pretty much just a courtesy to an FOFC'er. Under the current circumstances, I'd rather none of us get knocked off for no apparent reason (which is how we seem to be getting it so far). I mean, if we end up in different families & there's a war or something, well, bidness is bidness, but this apparently random stuff sucks.

I guess whoever had his Testament would be the obvious FOFC bidder though? If no one did, then I guess it's whoever has both spare cash & time to monitor it.

Guys, I know what the deal is with AnimalChin's witness statement, it's best to let this one die.

Also, on that note, I've learned a lesson in mafia politics after this. It's very good to have lots of friends on your list, particularly if they are familied and particularly if they allow you to put "under the protection of X". Familied characters go after people who don't seem to have any friends out there because it's the best way to raise weapons skill. Ugly, but true. Animalchin made a good target because he had no friends or anyone listed and that's why the person who went after him did.

Okay, 'splain this to me, 'cause I feel like I'm missing something here -- I gather that there's a family war going on, that's cool because it's a big part of the game (and something that's sort of encouraged if I get the right impressions from a comment in the log from this week's chat). What I don't understand is why the Don of Cupido is whacked & the family vanishes while the Don of Squad is whacked & they're still right at the top of the family list.

The only thing I can think of is that Cupido didn't have a successor named while Squad did, but I'm having a tough time thinking that the #3 ranked family didn't have a successor named. Since lower ranked members of families don't appear to be taken out during these wars, just leadership, what's the survive/extinct criteria for a family?

I don't know for sure, but I think if you take down the top three of a family, it ceases to exist.

In Cupola, it was a slaughter. Chief and above were slaughtered.

Just to give you guys an update on me, I'm in Hattrickelli.

I'm a thief and 28% to the next level.

Okay, so based on the Cupola tragedy ... you can wipe out a family if you whack all the leadership simultaneously -- still not 100% clear, to any of us(?), whether you need to get all of the top 3 _or_ if you have to eliminate everyone who is of sufficient rank to start a family in the first place (i.e. if you can't start one, you can't sustain one).

Thanks, that was just a fine point that was confusing me a little.

Despite being an avid hattricker, I did not join Hattrickelli because I couldn't read most of their family page which is in Spanish. I joined Liggio by simply going into their recruiting room in the chat area and asking them to take me. I was only about 90% of the way to shoplifter when I joined.

I'd prefer hattrick because there is a real bond there. Do the people at Liggio really care if you die? Doubtful

You raise a good point there, one that is probably the single best reason that an eventual FOFC family should be a goal ... even it does look like a goal that's quite a way down the road before being realistic.

Shit, even if was somebody I didn't particularly like around here, at least there's some bond there, something that makes me more interested in their fate as part of an FOFC family. And that beats being a disposable part in somebody else's organization, y'know?

I would think so. You know the murderer would of seen that family tag on you and killed you anyway, or because of it.

Every kill is basically direct attack on your family.

Well, if someone still wants to buy it, id love to know who off'd me. I had a million in the bank, plus everything BUT bullets (which was ironically my next stop once i got out of jail), so i want a little revenge :)

I don't think we'll know who killed you unless someone with inside knowledge reveals it. The witness statement got pretty expensive, so I'm assuming someone was trying to cover their tracks. Don't worry, when we finally get a family, we'll kill everybody else off just to make sure we get the punk.

It is pretty much the same for all the families (I think). Tributes of $111K for low level characters, and honour points to the top 3.

All that said, I need to find out real fast what exactly is expected of me.

Route 66 heist

You stopped a fat biker, he looked at you like you were mad. He was the outrider. Around the corner came the rest of the local chapter of Grease Goblins. Luckily you brought your Tommy gun with sufficient bullets. Apparently even bikers can get scared when you start shooting at them.
