Had a phone call from my wife a few hours ago. Apparently she's already started to dilate and it's waaaay too early for the kids to be born (she's at 28 weeks right now. Full term for twins is considered 38 weeks).

Doctor put her on bed rest for the rest of her pregnancy, but I've read that there's really no empirical data suggesting that does any good.

Anyway, if you're the praying kind, would certainly appreciate a few words to the Man Upstairs.

Thanks.

Oh shit Cam...

this really gives me the creeps as it hits home damn hard...

I went thru a similar situation just 2 weeks ago, and I haven't mentionned it here so far...
Basically, my girlfriend was also expecting twins, baby girls...and on january 4th, 23 weeks of pregnancy, they were diagnosed with TTTS, that is Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome, a fatal condition in almost all cases...we went up to Paris for an emergency operation, which was successful but then unfortunately and followed by complications...my girlfriend started going in labor and of course my 2 little girls were too young...On Jan 7th, Lola and Marilou were born stillborn...
it was a really horrible situation (still is really, still hurts like hell...) and I wish to God this is not gonna affect you...

All my thoughts go out to you...

If your wife has been over-exerting herself, that can sometimes cause early contractions and such. Bed rest will help her a little bit, just to get her off her feet and have her relax. I'll send a prayer up for the four of you....

Cam, you are in our thoughts.

There are things they can do to stop the process, and bedrest isn't that uncommon.

Thanks everyone. I just found out I'll be able to adjust my hours at work so I can be home in the mornings. That makes me feel a lot better. My big fear is that my wife would try and get out of bed to do laundry, help our 4-year old with stuff, etc. Now I can do those things and make sure she's following the doctor's orders.

Good luck Cam. Not the praying type, but good luck. Does the Doctor have any idea of what might be causing it (Im 22 - I know nothing about childbirth).

Good Luck Cam,

My mother was on bed rest for the last 6-8 weeks of her pregnancy with me and I was born near my due data.

Another friend just had twins. Now I don't know all the medical details, but she was on bed rest starting in September because of early contractions. Her babies were born in the middle of November.

Hopefully the bed rest will help your wife too.

Cam, I've known someone who started to dilate, was put on bedrest, and stayed partially dilated / no contractions for several weeks before having a normal delivery (similary to henry's take above). Take it careful, but don't panic yet.

Good luck. My wife works with a woman who just went through something similar and it turned out fine. Just make sure your wife follows doctor's orders.

Sending my prayers to FFF, CamEdwards, and both of your families. Cam, I know there is no empirical evidence that bed rest helps, but several of my friends are OB's and they swear by it. Hopefully, it helps in this case.

thanks again. Just got the 4 year old to bed. I've helped to make dinner, done 3 loads of laundry, washed the dishes (including the stuff that has to be done by hand), put a 4 year old to bed, and waited on my wife hand and foot.

I've learned two things tonight:

1- I didn't help out around the house nearly as much as I thought I did.

2- we're going to be eating a lot more takeout over the next 8 weeks. Either that or my 18 year old daughter (hands off, boys) is going to have to start cooking.

2- we're going to be eating a lot more takeout over the next 8 weeks. Either that or my 17 year old daughter (hands off, boys) is going to have to start cooking.

Cam.. i fixed that for you, try not to make that mistake with this crowd :)

Regardless, i hope everything turns out fine and healthy

not anymore. sorry about that!

BTW, up to laundry load #4 now. 14 year old son decided to wait until 20 minutes ago to tell me he had no clean pants to wear to school tomorrow.

On a good note, the wife is in bed, she's happy, and i don't think she's as stressed/freaked out as she was this afternoon.

nice job taking care of everything in the house :p just off the top of my head from what i know about premature labor, make sure your wifes got tons of pillows to keep her comfy, that she's drinking at least one glass of water or juice per hour, that a potty is nearby :( , and no sitting straight up to watch tv or lying flat on her back(cuts off oxygen and blood)..
