Okay, so I'm Catholic and consider myself to be generally a religious person, but this caught me as odd...

Is it just me, or would most of what just happened at the inauguration not have been allowed at a high school graduation due to the religious content?

This is the first time I've watched an inauguration since probably grammar school; and I know opening with an invocation and such is pretty common regardless of where you are. But are the hymns, prayers and such something that has always been a part of inaug. ceremonies; or is this a GWB thing?

I don't generally watch inaugurations, so I'm not sure if it's common.

The only one I saw was Clinton's 1st. I happened to be interning with then Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell (D-ME), and got a ticket because they took pity on me and my 16 hour days. :)

In that one, I remember a prayer or two, but don't think I remember any hymns or anything. That was also the inauguration that had a reading by Maya Angelou, which was very nice.

It was also about 30 degrees, so it was fun to watch everyone complaining about the cold (given that I grew up in Maine and was, at the time, at school in Minnesota, 30 degrees didn't phase me).

Still, it's GWB, what do you expect?

Dunno. But I did get a holiday because of this whole thing. So far, so good. I spent the morning drinking coffee, surfing the net, playing EHM: FE, and listening to helicopters buzz by the apartment. May head out and go see House of Flying Daggers in a bit.
