gametime. i'd love to sit here and post, but then I won't be able to watch. And I'd rather watch. So I'll catch up with y'all after the game.

edit: why are the announcers saying Owens will be back for the SB? I thought tk said that was basically impossible???

Hey! I'm overcome with joy right now. Can't blame me for a little mistake ;)

Also, I think anyone who is thinking that the Patriots will destroy Philly is deluding themselves. The Patriots and Steelers are both very good teams, but I don't think either of them are that much better than the Eagles that they are guaranteed to win.

how is it that Dirk Johnson can get off good punts into the wind but Atlanta's cant?
Falcons are a dome team right, maybe that's it?

Hey! I'm overcome with joy right now. Can't blame me for a little mistake ;)Yeah, when your coach gets hypothermia, then let's see how overcome with joy you are. ;)

Congrats. The better team won this one.

As far as the "house money" comment, I got the impression that it was a response to Donovan's absurd comment that the pressure was on the Falcons this week, rather than the Eagles. Based on what I've seen of Mora, I seriously doubt that was an expression of his overall approach to the game. Did you see him throw down his headset and stomp on it? That guy's a fireball.

Kudos to the Eagles for their regular season and playoff play. It's not since the '91 Redskins team that I've seen one NFC team just completely dominate all others in the conference.

I'm sorry.. thats still not a statement that any head coach can make.. it sounds complacent, and not something you wanna try and explain to your players after a practice..

i'm sure mora jr had a 2 way conversation with his dad.. his dad was like "son, throw something, you look too happy to be losing"

Eaglesfan27

I like McNabb's answer to the question of if the pressure is off him. He responded that it wasn't and nothing less than the Super Bowl win would be good enough to paraphrase him.

The play that personified this loss was the Vick rollout when the LB was right there in his face when he got there. If that isn't open, the Falcons are always going to struggle, because it signifies that the handoffs aren't going to be working by and large, either.

Catch the dadgum ball, Jenkins.
couldn't agree with you more, they simply contained Vick all day, and made him throw the football.

Oh well. Good season, and plenty to build on. We definitely got farther then expected this year. The Falcons need one more wide receiver and some more development from Vick to take it to the next level.
And another very weak NFC?

It all comes down to whether Vick can be Vick in those conditions. My guess is no, and if not, the Falcons will be lucky to score an offensive touchdown at all. If Vick is ineffective, or even just an average QB, the Eagles pack the box, stuff Dunn & Duckett & it's over.

Lemme see here ...
Today, Vick had 133 passing, 26 rushing on 4 carries

In the first 14 games (prior to clinching the division) ...
That's his lowest rushing yarding since the season opener
That's his 2nd fewest carries (only 2 against Oakland)
That's his lowest total offense of the season (since the opener)

It looked much more like a product of the Eagles defense than the weather, but the result is the same -- if Vick doesn't do Vick-like things, the chances of a mediocre offense (and an abysmal O-Line) producing a win are very very slim.

That's funny, I got up from a siesta and saw that they were interviewing McNabb. Good sign! But my wife who was watching the game said that the Falcons coach was acting like an asshole so she has now put them on her 'hate' list.

Hence, the comparisons to Kordell Stewart (except that Stewart needed stationary receivers).

I'm glad we don't have to talk anymore about this until July. Too much for one season.

Buccaneer
01-23-2005, 06:05 PM
The Falcons need one more wide receiver
I hear that Randy Moss might be available (source: espn and ap). You get him and you'll see the Falcons be even more of a hated team through the US.

JonInMiddleGA
01-23-2005, 06:05 PM
In other words, if he can't run he just is not a good enough QB to lead an offense....

Well, if you'll extend that to "... lead this offense", then you won't get an argument from me.

Then again, I don't think a Frankenstein creation of Unitas/Elway/Montana gets this team any farther than Vick did.

(And I don't believe you've ever seen me argue that Vick's throwing ability was going to get him anywhere anyway.)

Definitely. I'm not too worried about the Steeler's defense. I just hope the offense can keep up. The Steelers really need to run the ball better.

Actually I have stayed away from the Vick discussions, especially the Vick...HoF thread, have not even been into that one. So I have no idea really were certian guys stand on Vick and his talent.

To the Pats-Steelers game, just not looking good here for the Steelers now. These games are not exactly what was expected so far eh?

QuikSand
01-23-2005, 06:40 PM
The Patriots continue to keep opponents on their heels. Last week, they dinked and dunked and pounded away, proving to bee too physical for the Colts D, on balance. This week, they shift gears, and take their shots downfield as their bread and butter.

Say what you want about these Pats (and I'm not claiming the game is over) but they do more things well than possibly any team I have ever seen.

I agree. *IF* the field conditions are bad, the Falcons will lose. If the field conditions are good, they are going to have to hope for the usual Eagles collapse.

Eagles should still be favored in this game regardless of weather.

As for the AFC, I'm wondering if Rothlesberger is about to implode....

At the end of the day?

Philadelphia and New England in the Super Bowl.

Damn, you got your shit together, brother! Nice job.

One just does not bet on rookie QBs in the playoffs. I think "playoffs experience" is almost as mythical as "clutch hitting" but I think that's a key to the Pats success.

If the Steelers can't even hang with the Pats, how can the Eagles be expected to? I doubt I'll even watch the SB at this point as I really believe that nobody in the NFL can stop New England. They're just too good.

Nothing. He cries in the bathroom alone, and then probably signs a contract extension.

He's got a rookie QB and the Pats are clearly the better team. What can you do?

Dutch
01-23-2005, 07:02 PM
If not winning in the Championship Game at home, twice is the baseline for firing head coaches, then I guess everybody in the league should be fired.

I'm not kickin' anything at anybody who has an interest in this year's Super Bowl, but I'm not sure I can't remember a SB that had a matchup that interested me less. Neither team strikes me as likable nor particularly "must-see" teams, just sounds duller than hell to me. And this year's crop of commercials is one of the least-anticipated in years.

If the Steelers can't even hang with the Pats, how can the Eagles be expected to? I doubt I'll even watch the SB at this point as I really believe that nobody in the NFL can stop New England. They're just too good.
My laptop had one of it's freezes, and I decided to give it some rest while watching the game and then playing some Mercenaries on the Xbox.

Maybe someone else already replied to this, but either way I will reply.

McNabb is much better than Ben at this point in his career. Westbrook is a dangerous running back. Chad Lewis and LJ Smith are both better than Pittsburgh's TE's. The Eagles' defense looks better than the Steelers have the last few weeks. What people seem to forget is that the Eagles were on the road to having just as good a record as the Patriots before they took the last few games off to keep guys fresh. The Eagles will make it competitive. Am I sure they will win? No, of course not. I hope they win, but I must admit the Patriots look very impressive. I think the Eagles will keep it closer than the margin of victory in this New England win.
