Now that OOTP6 is 20 bucks, I'm thinking about finally taking the plunge and buying the game. I'm still wondering which would be the best version to buy--the only reason that I would not buy version 6 is that I'm interested in the individual coaching staff ratings affecting development and scouting (like the Solecismic games). I know that this was definitely a feature in Version 3, but I heard that it had since been removed. Is that true?

With all this being said, would I be better off with version 6, or might an earlier version (with the said features that I'm looking for) be better...

I'm addicted to ootp6 at the moment.
To the point of going to bed 5am everynight just so I can play. one. more. game.

The one that says "Puresim 2005" on the boot up screen. :)

I did give the game a go, but it didn't have the league configuration I wanted (1 league, 3 divisions, 6 teams each)...

FYI- this setup will NOT include playoffs.

I have played a couple of OOTP versions, and I certainly think that 6 is the best. I may be wrong here, but I think that your coaches have a significant impact on the development of your players.

You have a hitting and pitching coach, plus coaches for all 3 levels of the minors. I love that you get stats and standings for the minors. Plus the ability to set pitching staffs and lineups. It really seals the deal for micromanagers like myself.

In OOTP? You would think that it would obviously be the 3 division champs plus a wildcard... Thanks for the heads-up...

Well, I don't use coach's but definitly version 6. I'm still having trouble taking the Brewers to the World Series.

OOTP allows you to turn off scouting if you wish, but if you keep it you will find it still has an impact on what you see as in prior versions. You can always try the demo as well.

seriously though, 6 is definitely the best one of the series, even though it might not have improved as much as many would have liked from version 5, it is still the best of the series.

I also would like to add that it is not a bad idea to pick it up. The rebuild over at SI might take a couple of tries to get it really good, and 6 is a solid game to have until then.

Is there a demo out there that lets you play beyond June? I downloaded it and started playing, intending to kick the wheels for a few seasons before deciding, and was sorely disappointed to be stopped in the middle of the first season.

Nope, I doubt you'll find many games at all that would allow for more than one season IF that to "try a demo". Good luck.
