when your on offense, how do you know if Your Tightend will go out for a pass or stay in and pass block?

I think they always go out for the pass.

To expand on Cap Ologist's post...
I believe at one point someone (Celeval?) ran a test and found that Tight Ends never receive 'credit' for a Sack Allowed. Whether or not that dictates that Tight Ends never pass block is unclear, but I think it indicates that their role is minimal at best.
TE are my favorite players but i haven't ever managed to do anything good with a top TE in FOF, never managed to make them good receivers even when they had all the receiving rattings maxed. I have tried to tweak gameplans but i can't get my QB to throw them enought passes.

have you try to run more TE formation?
that might help

Upping short passing plays helps too. I often have gotten my quality TEs to catch 60-85 balls a season.

There's something else you need to get your top TE more involved in your pass offense. And that's crappy receivers. You want WR with low route runnings, that way more passes will be thrown your TE's way.
That is one thing i would like added to the next FOF/TCY, to be able to choose the primary/seconday receiver insted of needing to have a crap route running player if you want the other to be dominant. TE are undeused in FOF, they don't do anything on pass protection and also unless you have really bad receivers they don't get passes thrown so for what do we need them?

i agree
i wish you can set a % for TE to go out for passes and set a % for TE to stay in and Pass Block

I don't consider TEs when planning my pass blocking, because it doesn't seem to me that FOF cares about pass-blocking TEs.
I do consider TEs when run-blocking, and have had a good many be a key part in a power-running attack.
I prefer them to FBs as the "safety-valve" receivers. For this, I look for "Adjust to the ball" and "Courage". Maybe also "Route Running".
If I want a TE to be a big part of the pass attack I make sure they have good all-around stats but especially have a high "Getting Downfield" rating. If they don't have this, they'll average about 5 yards a catch, which is, in the long term, pretty useless if they're catching 60+ balls a season for you.
That's why I also have my FBs have about a 0 in "Route Running", because they never average a good # in pass catching yards.

Yeah, I don't do my own gameplans, but in my solo historical league, I had a TE who caught 930 passes for 9,995 yards and 69 touches in 15 seasons. Pretty good numbers. 8 seasons he had over 70 catches. :)

well, that's close to world record isn't it ?
As far as I am concerned, playing a West-Coast style of offense with my FOF teams, the TE is obviously very important. My TEs do catch their share of passes but not nearly as much as I would like them to.
Usually, I have them catch between 35-50 passes on a season.

Exactly my problem, running west coast most of the pass are thrown to FB and RB and not a lot to the great TE. What kind of short passes do you bump? screens, 0-4 or 5-8 ? with screens and 0-4 my FB and RB get's the most catches, with 5-8 my TE gets some more, but still not enought. As i said before, what we need is the ability to choose our primary receivers for short and long passes.

Then play your TE at FB.

i read in other thread, that all coaches will use a different strategy for the gameplans if you let your coach do it. and it depends also how there rated with doing the playcalling.
so some coaches might like to pass to TE more, run the RB more, etc
what the most catches you see a TE get in a season in your league?

You could always call your own plays and look at the play diagram to tell you what the TE is doing.
My biggest hangup with TEs isn't how many catches, but average per catch. I've had TEs catch 60 plus passes, no problem. But I don't ever recall a starting TE average over 10 yds per catch.

I using the real nfl player file for FOF 5.1b and so far half way thru my season ,I see 9 TE averaging over 10 yards per catch in my league.
How many TE average over 10 yards per catch this NFL season?

Yep that a lot of TE over 10 yards per catch in the NFL. Some of them didnt catch much to really qualify. But still a lot if you take those outs.
I guess in FOF, there not a lot of TE that can average over 10 yards per catch..
