Anyone ever purchased one of these? Im looking for a site that reviews them, as I would like to get one for playing sports/Action games on my PC, however the PS2 Controller is the only Controller I have ever liked.

http://store1.yimg.com/I/hartsunlimited_1828_74855 You can get this thing that you plug into the USB port that you then plug the PS2 controllers into.

14.95, probably exactly what you want.

If you're playing sports/action titles with a controller, wouldn't you be better off just getting a console? :D

I have one of these for the X-Box controller. It works pretty well, but I couldn't always get the d-pad to override the analog sticks. I mainly used it for Nintendo emulations, so the d-pad would have had more accuracy. I broke down and purchased a logitech pad, and its pretty good.

Oh, and I bought the adapter originally for emulations and EA Sports games (generally half the price for the PC).

Nah. What I keep trying to tell people is that I don't have a problem with the PS2. I have one, I have almost 50 games for it. That doesn't sound like a "hater" to me, but maybe my definitions are just fucked up.

What I have the problem with is Sony's business model. They spent almost two years jerking themselves off before they even got around to any kind of online initiative, and when they did, it was half-assed in comparison to Xbox Live. They also promised that users would be able to use AOL and other online services for regular web browsing/email on the PS2, and that never happened. Not a huge deal, but symptomatic of their head-up-assedness in the online arena in general.

On top of that, the hard drive was originally supposed to accompany the network adapter to market (that's why the HDD doesn't work without the network adapter), but instead, they waited until the PS2's lifecycle was more than half done, and then barely supported the thing. What games work with it? Resident Evil: Outbreak, Final Fantasy XI, and then a couple of others allegedly support it. Six months after releasing the hard drive, they redesigned the PS2 to remove support for it, which virtually ensures that the thing is a $99 turd. It's Sony's answer to the 32X, basically.

On top of that, you have the asinine decision to limit the amount of video RAM in the system, which means that the PS2 can push a ton of polygons, but has to jump through all sorts of hoops when it comes to texturing. You have the "we'll just take that $35, thanks" decision to remain the only two-controller-port console on the market, even literally every single competitor in this generation supported four.

The PS2 as a system? It's fine. If I were to make a list of my 5 favorite games of this generation, you'd find a couple of PS2 titles on the list. I just don't like the 'extortionary' feel I get from Sony's business model on the platform, and to be honest with you, I don't see them changing that.

Hell, look at the PSP over in Japan. Shoddy construction (dead pixels, defective analog sticks, and discs that eject from the UMD player while using the handheld), and then the other day it comes to light that the Square button is defective on some units because it's too close to the screen, so it's not centered directly above its little doodad that deals with the responsiveness. As a result, sometimes the button flat out doesn't respond, other times, it'll get stuck. Sony's response? "This was a design decision, as we refused to sacrifice either the size of the screen, or to make the system any larger." Great, so what you're saying is that you knowingly and willfully sold your customers a piece of defective hardware because you couldn't be arsed to get it right.

I'll say it one more time: My problem is with Sony, not with the PlayStation 2.

I just figured you'd prefer the Xbox controller. :)

I do, but for reasons unrelated to my dislike of their business model. I don't like the position of the L2/R2 buttons on the PS2 controller. Pelican has a 3rd party PS2 controller that indents the L2/R2 buttons slightly. If I could somehow induce Sony to use Pelican's design instead, I'd go with the PS2 controller. Since the L1/R1 and L2/R2 buttons are right on top of each other, though, it doesn't work out too well for me.

Yes, I am well aware of the different types of adapters. However, I would like to get one that works, because I am sure that some are half assed. I just wondered if there was someplace that reviewed them so I make sure that I buy one that works well.

Right now I use a gravis Gampad Pro, which looks exactly like a PS2 controller but the D-pad sucks ass. Especially when playing games that require precise movements with the D-pad.

I have just a plain 'ole Radioshack model PS to USB controller that has always worked fine for me, haven't used it too terribly often though.

Heh, I like the PS2 L1/L2 buttons, much easier to get to imo than the frigging black and white XBox buttons, oh how I hate those...still like the XBox controller quite a bit more though, that just bugs me.

Calis, it's not that I dislike the buttons, it's that I dislike their placement.

My favorite controller of all time is still the six-button Genesis pad, though.

Yeah reread and see what you're saying now, so let me rephrase and say that I just wish the XBox would move the black/white buttons up to the shoulder of the pad also. :)

Agreed on the Genesis also.
