FOXBORO, Mass. -- New England quarterback Tom Brady had a 103-degree fever the night before the Patriots beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC championship game, Sports Illustrated reported.

The magazine said in this week's issue that Brady had an intravenous line in his left -- non-throwing -- arm on Saturday night while fighting off chills in his Pittsburgh hotel room.

In outdoor temperatures of 11 degrees, Brady threw for two touchdowns with no interceptions to lead the Patriots to a 41-27 victory and their third Super Bowl appearance in four years.

Patriots spokesman Stacey James did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment.

Have you ever had chrionic migraines? It's not something you just shake off. It hurts to move. Light feels like someone is hammering a spike through your forehead. You get nauseaus. Playing a contact sport through that like he and Terrel Davis did is damned impressive. It may not have the same long term ramifications but requires just as much if not more intestinal fortitude to do it day in and day out and he did it for 20 seasons and several championships. Unlike Terrell he didn't have the Imotrex shot to help him ou either.

I don't know how much pain is involved with Koufax's injury but if it is the risk of long term injury that made his feast impressive to you I'd say the list of guys who risk this is pretty long.

I mean this as no knock on Koufax either as he was probably the second best southpaw ever to pitch.
