Poker legal in Oklahoma!!!

Yesterday the Indian Gaming Compacts that we voted on in November were approved by the Dept. of the Interior for four tribes. That means that non-house backed card games are now legal. One casino already has its poker room open and another is opening its in a couple of weeks (they already have their somehow legal blackjack tables with ante's up). I'm really pumped except that now I know where my money will go.

Kind of silly that the government has to approve it, isn't it? It seems quite silly to me that people have to ask the government for permission to run poker games in an already operating casino.

I don't think the Chickasaw's have had their compact approved yet (they might not have applied yet even), so the WinStar probably doesn't have poker yet. Right now it's Lawton, Norman (soon), near Tulsa, and Miami that have their casinos card-ready.

I'm not exactly sure, I know it would have Comanche as part of it though. I'm not sure the status of their card games yet though, just that they are allowed to have poker and blackjack now.

Dola, I just called the Comanche Red River Casino and they said they would have blackjack next week and a few days later Texas Hold Em.

The gov in WI approved new gaming compacts in 2003 that allowed casinos to offer poker, craps, roulette, and other games, in exchange for significantly higher payments. Of course, the legislature (controlled by the other party) took it to court ... and won. So now, most or all of the casinos stopped offering the extra games, but the casino I usually go to won't make the new, higher payments. I guess all the other tribes are making the payments in good faith as they negotiate new compacts, but the state is blaming the one tribe for most of the extra budget deficit.

When they offered it, I never played poker (did a lot of watching). I wish I could still play roulette though. Hopefully they'll get the new compacts approved soon.
