I'm having a hard time rooting for either the Patriots or the Eagles. Usually, if there isn't a team that I like in the game, there is at least one team I can root against to get some level of satisfaction, but this year, both options are completely unappealing to me. Anyone else in the same boat? :(

Kinda. I'm a Jets fan, so I have a natural dislike for the Pats. The Eagles are just blahh. Since I respect what the Pats have done and I like Belichick, I guess I'm gonna root for the Pats though, against my better judgment.

I think it is the most compelling SB since Green Bay-Denver.

Dola...
I should clarify that I mean from an anticipation stand point. There have been some great games since GB-Denver, but I wasn't really excited about any of them pre-game. I'm excited for this one, and don't really have a rooting interest (though I'll cheer for the Pats).

Tampa Bay - Oakland was pretty bad in terms of trying to root for one team or another, but this one may be the worst that I can remember.

You're a Dolphins fan. Your sole purpose is to complain about all things NFL. What do you expect?

Up until the game, I don't think it was that bad, but then again I'm baised.
I think this game is very intriguing, since this could've been the third matchup between these two teams in the Superbowl in the past four years. Had the Eagles gone to every Superbowl that they went to the NFC Championship game, and had New England won one of their two previous appearances and the Eagles the other, this would've been a truly great game. As it is, I think that it's a great matchup.

I don' think most people are saying the game will be bad, or that Oakland-Tampa was going to be bad... I think what Kodos and VPI are saying they found it very difficult to find a team to root for, and this subsequently made the Super Bowl less appealing to them.
I feel the same way this year. I'm not exactly psyched by the thought of either of these teams holding up the Lombardi Trophy.

Exactly. Like them or not, the Pats are obviously a quality team. But I'm sick of them, sick of hearing about them, and I have little reason to like the Eagles either. This makes it a boring Super Bowl.

Then don't watch, get nasty with Kang, and invade Springfield...SHEESH.

Not watching the Super Bowl would be blasphemy.
And maybe where you come from it is acceptable, but Kang is my brother... :p

Yes. As has been revealed many times to shocked viewers at FOFC.

I'm thinking Patriots Bears was pretty bad.
San Diego and the Niners would be another.
Oh and any of the times during the 70s when the Raiders didn't make it. The Silver and Black would have made any of those games better. Especially the Denver - Dallas game.

Ravens/Giants, Niners/Chargers Broncos/Falcons Patriots/Packers
All of those were pretty bad for me cause it was pretty much obvious who the better team was.
Bucs/Raiders I didn't much care for just because I really didn't like either team and the game had a weird aura to it.

Yeah, i really don't get how you cant be excited about this one.
The 2 best teams in their respective conferences over the past 3 or 4 years and both teams are still in that high level and not looking like theyre gonna come down anytime soon. I wouldnt be shocked to see them square off in the SB 1 or 2 more times over the next 5 years or so.

Yeah, it turned into a good game but before and afterwards its sort of like this thing I just wanna forget about, it's just so odd seing Panthers on the list of SB participants, makes me long for a good 4 or 5 year rivarly between elite teams.

I feel exactly the same way Kodos. I went to GT so I definitely wanted Atlanta, and my uncle is a Steeler fan so I was happy to root for them.
I think I'll be cheering for the Eagles, since this "best team ever" and "best QB ever" stuff is junk (and it might start to prove the experience being the be-all end-all of sports theory wrong), and I really don't want to deal with all the post-game "dynasty" talk.
Yep, I just talked myself into rooting for the Eagles.

The one that was most unintriguing is the Ravens/Giants Super Bowl. I went ahead and took part in a Super Bowl party. By the time it was halftime, we were all out in the backyard drunk from vodka shots while performing knife edge chops on our chests for giggles. Good times!

I got my boss, who was a big Giants fan to take a $1000 bet if he gave me 3/1 odds and I gave him 25 points. Thats the ONLY reason I even payed attention to that game.

I think the Ravens/Giants Super Bowl was the worst I can remember. Neither team seemed like they were the best during the season and neither really seemed Cinderella-like.

I remember that most interesting thing to me about the Bucs/Raiders Superbowl was the debut of Jimmy Kimmel live. That tells ya how amped I was for that one.

I thought both sucked badly. Much worse than this year.

My vote goes to Denver-Atlanta. That's the only Super Bowl since Supoer Bowl 21 that I did not watch the entire game.

I liked any of the past 5 super bowls I watched. Okay, maybe the fourth quarters in the games with defensive domination provided by the Ravens and Buccaneers were a bit less apealing to watch, but it showed there are different ways that can lead to winning it all.

I am looking forward to this matchup. Its what most people have talked about since the season started, its the best team (by far) from each conference, and there are a number of intriguing plot-lines.
As for the worst, Giants/Ravens has to take the cake. Absolutely terrible matchup between two teams that really weren't that interesting.
Eagles/Patriots according to the people who want flashy teams in the superbowl Sure, that's no Rams/Vikes matchup (alyhough I don't know if they are in the smae conference or not), but this year, I will watch this game as it is going to be a "rough boys" game ! What I like !
And I probably won't root for anyone... Had the Steelers been in, I would have had a favorite tema, but now.... I'll just watch for the sake of enjoying a live NFL game !

Washington-Buffalo was the only superbowl I stopped watching because I was bored. NE-Chicago and SD-SF were snorefests too.
TB-Oakland was the BEST one ever, because there is nothing on earth I hate more than the Chokeland Faiders. Watching them get thrashed was better than losing my virginity.

This looks to be one of the better matchups recently (heading into the game, which is what this thread is about).
How could you have actually been looking forward to Patriots/Panthers, Buccaneers/Raiders, Giants/Ravens (talk about crappy potential that lived up to it's potential), Rams/Titans or even Broncos/Falcons for that matter?
Also, where does the arguement about flashy teams come from. The Eagles were either among the top of the NFL or led the NFL in 50 yard plays. They were one of the top scoring teams in the NFL (take away the last two second string games) and were among the top couple teams in points allowed. The Patriots are stingy on defense and opportunistic on offense. This could turn into a snooze fest but if you really break it down, it has the potential to be one of the better Super Bowls. From a football fan's perspective, that should be what is important, seeing a good game instead of having to 'pick a team to root for'.

I don't think it will even be a good game. I think New England is going to kick the Eagles ass with ease.

I don't get people beating up on the Bucs/Raiders Super Bowl. You had the Gruden-Al Davis factor going on. You had a feel good story with the Bucs finally overcoming all those awful years. The Raiders always play the role of evil opponent well. There were lots of reasons for that to be an anticipated Super Bowl.

I guess we'll see. I think the Patriots secondary will maul the wimpy Eagles receivers. Time will tell. :)
I think I'm rooting for the Eagles. Which only seals their fate. :(

I think the Eagles will go vertical a ton in this game, and in the process blow up this "legendary" Pats defense. I also think Westbrook will be able to take advantage of the lack of speed from the LB corp.
But then again, I am an Eagles fan so what do I know.

Yeah, that game had the 'movie criteria' for being hyped. But as far as the matchups go it just didn't seem as interesting on a football level.

It's easy to root against the Eagles. Karma, baby.
