Has anyone else heard that Favre is retiring? My Bear-fan friends are all atwitter but none of the mainstream outlets have anything I've seen.

Sigh. i can already see it. Favre retires, pachkers pick up Mike McMahon, goes onto greatness, humbles Lions everytime G.B. plays them.

This would be typical Lion fan karma.

Driver on Favre: 'This season was his last year'

First Emmitt Smith is reportedly retiring. Now Brett Favre?

Speaking on the Murray in the Morning Show on Sporting News Radio, Green Bay Packers wide receiver Donald Driver said he thinks Favre may have played his last NFL game.
"I would love to have him come back this year, but, in my eyes, I think this season was his last year," Driver said. "I don't think I'll see him back next year. If he does, it would be great. But if not, then everyone knows he had to do things for his family."

Favre's family has certainly had a rough time of it of late. In the last year, both Favre's father and brother-in-law died and his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer.

"I would love for Brett to be my quarterback for the next seven years, if possible," Driver said. "I know that right now he's been going through a lot with his family. ... I think one thing about it is, he wants to spend time with his family."

If Favre does hang it up, he will do so as one of the game's all-time greats. The three-time MVP has thrown for 49,734 yards and 376 touchdowns in his career, good for third and second on the all-time lists, respectively.

I got a better one for ya...

Favre retires.

McMahon signs with G.B. and looks pretty good.

Joey looks even worse and throws 40 picks.

After one season, Favre feels pretty good and decides to givi it one more shot.

The Pack, not wanting to piss off their new QB, deciline to sign him.

Favre is reunited with Mooch, and Williams & Rogers catch 1,500 yards worth of balls each. THE LIONS WIN THE SUPERBOWL!!!

Not to rain on the Favre retirement parade, but two of Favre's family members stated today they think Favre will return next season and even Driver backtracked a little - he now says it was just his opinion based on what Brett went through last season and that he hasn't talked with Favre since the season ended.

Denial ain't just a river in Egypt.

I don't think Don Driver really knows the truth, but I do suspect Farve may retire. I think he senses that this team is not going to get much better anytime soon, and is probably still kicking himself at the missed opportunity last year to get back to the big game one last time.

I've never been a Green Bay fan or anything, but it will be totally weird to watch a season without Brett Farve. Whenever the Patriots have the late game or aren't on, I'll always put the Packers game on just because of Farve. Most non-patriot teams get a "meh" and either turned off or turned down, except for the Packers and Farve. He's just a blast to watch play and he's been playing for as long as i've been watchign football. Easily my favorite non-Patriot

I'm sure the time will come but just being a football fan I hope he doesn't, to me he is one of those players that makes the NFL and professional football special. He gives his all, all the time(I'm sure that many do, but something about him is just special), he also plays like he just plain ole loves the game. Kinda like a kid. When the time comes for him to retire Sunday's will just be different w/o him.

Also, in the back of my mind I've always wondered what would have happened had Atlanta not given up and dealt him away. :)

I find it really hard to root against Favre, and really don't want to see him leave football..... hopefully he won't.

Who will the announcers (especially ESPN) totally overrate now?

Man, theres no way Fav-ree can retire. According to FOF, he will play into the 2008 season at least. His rating is right at 100 for my WigFl steelers.

If you're a Bear-fan, Favre is the least of your problems.

But seriously, for anyone who's played FOF and seen a 6-10 team make the playoffs, this gives hope that it can happen in the NFL, too -- and admit it, it ALWAYS happened in the NFC North, didn't it?
