Sorry Mack Brown lovers.

Quarterback Ryan Perrilloux (Reserve, La.), one of the top two prospects in the country, ended months of self-prolonged suspense by declaring he's headed to LSU. In doing so, the dual-threat QB -- who seemed to bask in the attention of recruiting season more than nearly any other player -- reneged on a commitment to Texas he made last summer. At last month's U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, he flashed the "Hook 'em Horns" sign for cameras and insisted he was still committed, but he also made a point of taking other campus visits, and many believed all along he'd end up at his home-state school.

Amusingly enough, he trashes the QBs already at LSU. Basically, he is saying that one of the reasons for him going to LSU is that the LSU QBs suck, therefore Perrilloux can play right away.

I'm sure he endeared himself to his new teammates with that one.

What comes around, goes around. ESPN is reporting that DL Jarrel Powe will switch from LSU and now go to Ole Miss.

I think this was expected (except maybe that most people thought he would switch to Auburn).

I think Texas fans have been expecting the Perrilloux decommitment for sometime now. That impending sense of doom.

According to ESPN's chat, Powe switching is the biggest surprise of the day. I'm guessing there will be more though.

Powe will never qualify.

Hmm...that's strange, from what I had read people were wondering how strong his commitment to LSU was from day one. He was supposed to take an official to LSU last weekend but canceled it.

I agree with Golden Eagle that his qualifying is a long shot.

Powe switching from LSU was no surprise, he canceled his official visit to us weeks ago. He just committed to LSU to get more attention from Auburn, who had all but given up on him qualifying behind closed doors, it wasn't a real committment, LSU knew that and Auburn knew it. All these schools also knew he hasn't been working at all in the classroom or well enough on keeping himself in shape either. Ole Miss's new staff has babied him enough in the last week to get him to sign today, not that it matters because there is no way he doesn't go to JUCO. If he can make it through JUCO is a good question.

Mack Brown would have ruined him anyway. Too bad he signed an extension. :(

You may be right here. I re-read the chat and it appears the surprise may be more on his committing to Ole Miss over him leaving LSU.

Evidently, Perrilloux started looking harder and harder at LSU after the Rose Bowl game. He wants to start right away, and didn't want to spend a redshirt year plus another holding the clipboard for Vince. His comments today about LSU's existing QBs supports that theory.

strong year in state for qbs next year. as long as vince stays healthy texas won't miss a beat. we still got mccoy, and i don't think anyone who followed the saga was surprised

Bingo. Everyone was almost certain he wasn't coming to LSU, but most people thought he was going to Auburn.
