Not that I do this much, but I just put 100 down that NE would cover the spread - 7 1/2. Then I put 20 more down that they would win by 22.
I have the same feeling I do about this game that I did when San Fran thrashed San Diego. But guess what, I am not a professional gambler and I may have just lost the money I was going to spend on the wife on Feb 14.
I usually don't do well on football wagering, but what the hell!

I have trouble laying points in general, so I usually pick dogs to bet on. That said, I wouldn't bet on the Eagles unless I get nine or ten points.

I almost never bet on anything, but I put down some money on the Eagles. I'm feeling good about them winning this game, and shocking most of the experts. I'm feeling even better about them covering the spread.

I would think so. It's tough to win the game without covering the spread, when you're the underdog.
Good luck regardless.

Hehe. I did word that oddly. I meant to say that I feel they have a decent chance of winning the game, but I'm much more confident that they will at least cover the spread if they lose.

Just ribbing, not riding. (Borrowing the phrase, I like it)

Personally, I don't think there's a great valuebet out there on this game. I don't really like giving the points, as the Pats just don't seem to be the type of team that frequently dominates a game and crushes their opponent. Look over the last four years (their so-called dynasty) and I suspect they have not been all that good ATS, even when on their big winning streak.

False. Over the last two years they have put up historically dominant numbers against the spread. Ridiculous numbers.
I wish I had been financially aboard.

Okay, color me surprised. I confess I had/have not looked.
Just my impression (apparently mistaken) that they tend to do "just enough to win" a lot, rather than really taking command like many teams do during their period of domination.
Shows you what I know.

Fits with the overall lack of respect theme. Nationally, the gambling public has been slow to catch up resulting in many, many covers.
That's a changin though overall.
Off the top of my head I'd guess they are something 70% against the spread over the last two years. Again, off the top of my head. Might be more or slightly less.
This years playoffs they are two for two in blowouts.
Quickly looking at the regular season without revisiting the spreads I'd guess they were 11-5. Again a ballpark.
Of course they were something like 9 point favorites in last year's Superbowl. Who knew their entire secondary would get hurt during the game.

i think you parlay the over and under and pick the Patriots, your going to win a lot.

I didn't know they covered the spread that much. This was just a gut bet for fun. Typical unimformed sucker.

I was curious about this so I looked up the numbers:
Pats ATS:
2004: 13-3-2
2003: 15-4
Last 2 years: 28-7-2 (78%)
They don't blow out teams but they do win comfortably - 19 wins in the last 2 years by more than 10 points.

I think this year's team is more capable of blowing the doors off people. The perception that they do just enough to win is probably a hangover from the first two SB seasons when they didn't have as much talent, especially on offense. They did have the #3 scoring offense this year, so they can certainly put up points.
I grabbed the Patriots when the line was -6 1/2. Having said that, I think this game will be extremely close. I'm going to dabble in some of the prop bets this weekend, but I wish I could take back the earlier bet.
if anyone wants New England at -7 1/2, they're (+105) at Bodog..... it'll be interesting to see where the line ends up before kickoff...

Quiksand was right again. Damn.
Do you want to go into halves on a monster bet on the Kentucky Derby? Please!

I bet the under yesterday at Sports Interaction, it was 48 pretty much all week, then went to 47.5 yesterday. What was real funny, the money line on Philly was 300, so I put some on that too. Then I went in just before kickoff and it had dipped to 195. Looked funny to me, like the fix was in!

My only consolation is that I made money off the Super Bowl since the Eagles covered the spread.

Once it became obvious that NE was going to dick around and not cover the spread, I started cheering for Philly to beat them. Thus, I lost twice. Moral of the story. Just watch the damn game and leave the betting to people who know what they are doing.

I don't know where the thread went but the "tied at half, Pats win guy" made a fortune.
