Question inspired by HA's thread

Okay, this is scary ... something HA brought up has started me wondering about something.

Ladies, feel free to participate in the discussion, but this is mostly a question for the guys I think:

When you were on the prowl for women (or if you still are), was that mostly a "group activity" or something conducted solo/pair/trio maximum?

After reading the scenario & some of the background, I started thinking back over my days as an unattached guy. I was a dog, a hound, a pathetic joker who was often not using the big head to think with, basically ... I was just like plenty of people here ;)

But damned if I remember ever really thinking of trying to score as something done best in a pack of other dogs. Solo, or with a wingman, yeah okay, I get it. Maybe a couple of wingmen. But never anything more than three guys on the mission if the objective was getting lucky -- too hard to find a matching number of targets, too hard to avoid stepping on each other's business, just seems too damned crowded to me.

So ... did I just go through this phase in an unusual fashion? Or does HA have some friends with odd technique? (okay, you can write your own joke for that one ... but only after you answer the question)

i think there was some confusion:

when we go out it's like 5 or 6 of us. if it's a single girl the guy who wants her most will approach her. two girls then most usually a wingman will tag along. throughout the night it's like hockey with line-changes: this guy and that guy goes out and tries their hand. maybe that guy and this one goes. maybe 3 goes up to the pack. different combinations of guys go out. but regardless, if 3 guys do their skirt chasing thing that means usually only 2 are left behind (and i'm most usualy one of the two). once i break the ice and get the conversation going i do what all non-cock blockers do and i go back to the perimeter.

i just get frustrated cuz when you go out with 5 or 6 guys you want to hang with the 5 or 6 guys. you don't want to get left talking to just one guy who's not having any luck. and you most usually can't have a decent conversation in the loud places we go to usually.

i see what you're saying though. i don't think the pack-mentality ever worked. too teenagerish. the number of wing-men you bring with you depends on the number of girls you're going up to.

definitely groups. i am more comfortable, i think, picking up girls with my friends, because they will laugh at the silly things i say and easily the girl will feel more comfortable with me.

Mmm, I never really had a "prowling" plan. Actually, I never really did much prowling...not a very good hunter. Basically just lucked out a couple of times (cases where the female was the agressor) and that was about it.

Except for my wife...still not sure how I swung that one.

Never solo. It's impossible to look anything but desparate and creepy by yourself and you need one wingman to take the fat one. After that you're just intimidating women by looking like a mobile fraternity.

When I was a teenager, my dad used to have a saying: "one boy = one brain, two boy = half brain, three boy = no brain". I think that would probably apply in the above scenario :D

It depends on the situation. Here at college or back home, going to frats/clubs and once we're 21, bars, we usually roll about 5-6 guys deep, but usually we'll be going with a few girls too. Usually out of that a couple of the guys have girlfriends, so they are there more as wingmen if the need arises than competition against the single guys. if any of the guys gets lucky, they'll just split off from the group. Maybe we'd get more girls if we all went in smaller groups, but on most nights that don't end up with a girl, its still fun hanging out with friends. Plus, just in case anything goes down it's nice to roll deep. Going solo to one of these places I've never really seen much, and given the environment would just be weird. Then again, with the people I hang out with, pretty much every relationship they met somewhere other than one of these places. Most girls you can pick up at a frat in one night where there is basically no talking and lots of alcohol involved is probably not gonna be worth it in the long run.

When it's either a house party or floor party, pretty much all my friends will be there, but there's always different rooms/parts of the floor/house so it's not like we're sticking together in one big group, but rather constantly splitting off, walking around seeing someone else and chilling with them for a little bit.

It all depends on my goal for the night and the location.

If I'm pulling an all-nighter and/or I'm hitting another town, I want at least one wingman-- maybe two.

If I'm just hitting the local watering hole, I'm perfectly content to fly solo.

I think the ideal scenario is to have a wingman, though. As Shorty mentioned, it's someone to laugh at your jokes. When you are having fun with your buddy it serves a few purposes:

1- It shows that you are a fun person to be around. After all, your buddy's been cracking up all night.

2- It puts a girl at ease-- assuming you don't just swoop in and start hitting on everything with a skirt with your boy. It gives girls the (absolutely false) impression that your just out for a drink and a good time-- and not a hunter on the prowl.

3- Normal girls don't go to bars and clubs by themselves. You might need that wingman to run interference. I go out two or three times a week and I can handle entertaining a fair number of girls in English or Japanese. But as the number goes up my success rate goes down. By the time I get to five girls, I can just manage to keep them entertained enough that they don't want to get rid of me.
But it allows us to roll in on a group of four and for me occupy the extras while my boy is working, or vice versa.
