I'll probably eat a couple of potato chips and then grab something from Wendy's during the second quarter or so.

You won't believe this, but in San Francisco there is only one Wendy's. The worst part of the city is that the geography is so small that there is absolutely no drive thru's whatsoever. Every fast food closes at like 10PM. As for said topic, I have plenty of beer/JD/Vodka to last me, not to mention the amount of fabulous pizza delivery services in my area.

Hey, I'm having a little get together tonight. Not sure what to make. Does anyone have any recipes for something good, besides the usual wings, nachos, etc?

02-06-2005, 08:54 AM
Yes, here's what I'm making for the Super Bowl party today.
3 packs of little smokies
3 packs of bacon
Cut bacon into 3 pieces, wrap 1 piece around little smokie and secure with toothpick. Do this until you fill 2-3 glass baking dishes (the more the better as these go fast).
Cover with a generous amount of brown sugar and bake in a 325 degree oven for about 40mins-1hr (until the bacon is your desired crispyness). Transfer to a crock pot to keep warm.
You have to love meat wrapped up with meat. :D
These things will go up in about 30 mins or less. :)

No recipes or anything, but maybe some lunch meats and fresh rolls or something? I'm having a bitch of a time cause I gorged on pizza 2 weekends ago and didn't end up feeling very well so I pre planned either Turkey Burgers and tater tots or a nice little chicken dish, tasty stuff that wasn't full of grease and cheese and crap.
How many people are gonna be there? Do you have an indoor grill per chance? You could cook alot of good stuff on that.

He's done that often this year. He's been successful a number of times by doing so, although you also get those sacks out of it.

More like not protecting the football after he evaded the first tackler and was face up with another one.
Announcers really suck though. They were praising Reid's keen eye seeing that McNabbs knee was down.
Which is more likely, Reid has a keen eye or McNabb simply told him that he'd been down? I'm sure he felt his knee hit the turf.

If he doesnt call it a fumble, it cant be reviewed. I agree that the refs suck, but I wonder how often they make a call knowing "it can be reviewed to get the correct call."

Well, I agree that replay should be used, but it's not always because the refs are bad. It was easy to tell that his knee was down going frame by frame, but it can be extremely difficult to tell during live action. There are some bad refs, but even good officials will need replay from time to time.

So far (of what I've seen), the Diet Pepsi spot got a chuckle, the FedEx (Burt & the bear) spot got rapt attention & a "good spot" pronouncement. Everything else has a neutral to "you just wasted big bucks".
IMO, godaddy.com didn't get their money's worth out of that spot, too many quick cuts & not enough focus on the actual website name. Also, that appears to be an edited version of the original spot (unless they've got another version coming up later), which had a rear angle shot of the shirt completely off.

No doubt but if the level of officiating was across the board better I'd be able to live with the no do overs just like stevew. It doesn't have to be perfect. Life rarely is.

No doubt this happens quite a bit and it can be frustrating considering the built in limit on challenges.

Come on, nobody SANE expected the Pats to blow out Philly.. they were 13-1 before they gave up the final games to get healthy.
Still a half to play, I like the Pats chances, but they need to get their heads straight. As I said, they're playing like the Rams of 01, where they expect the other team to roll over. Too many miscues with the ball (what the fuck is with the refs, btw? Looked to me Like Brady was on top of it on that fumble and had it yanked out in the ruck :)) and too many penalties.

Hey, I might have missed it.. I do find it funny that there's 25 guys killing each other down there for the ball, grabbing at anything that might REMOTELY be ball-shaped (Did you see the article about 2-3 weeks ago in SI about all the shit that happens in the pile? Made me wince in pain) and there's a guy with the ball standing 25 yeards away.
Makes me thing that would be a neat hidden ball trick.. next time you get in a smack up like that, to toss several balls onto the field and have all your guys running around with a ball in their hands.
Hey.. it could work :)

Stuck in a Super Bowl party here. Thoughts...
1. I *really* hate watching football with non-football people. "What does that mean?" (illegal prodecure sign) Ugh. Learn the game in the preseason and regular season, or just shut up.
2. I figured Owens was just going to be out there for show. Looks like he's bringing some game to the table.
3. I'm impressed with the defenses so far, but both offenses seem like they could break out.
4. Can the Pats withstand yet *another* injury in the secondary? It could be tough.
5. I didn't realize that Roman Phifer was still playing. I think he's older than me, for cryin' out loud.
6. I'm not a fan of the "let-the-play-continue-and-we'll-check-the-replay" thing that the announcers indicated the refs have been instructed to follow. Why force a team to use a challenge like that?
7. As more people leave here, I might actually get to enjoy the second half a lot more. :)

Two overturned calls, a missed call on the pick on Owens long catch, a missed illegal contact on Assante Samuel near the goal-line; could they have FOUND a worse officiating crew? At least it's going both ways so they're not deciding the outcome.
Horrible field, too, with people slipping all over the place. Wasn't their great weather the last couple of days down there?
At least my feared "6-3" final won't happen, although 10-7 is possible.
Both defenses came to play, both offenses are trying a bit hard and need to settle down, looks like a good matchup.
Go Pats!

Get the rest of the Beatles up there for a reunion and I'd be thouroughly impressed. Since that ain't happening let him stick to his own material. Just MHO.
First, there's only one other Beatle. What can you do there?
Secondly, they brought these elaborate halftime shows and these people who were just out to sell something. What's McCartney putting out there soon? He was just there to, you know...perform, entertain.
In my opinion, you've overanalyzed the purpose of this halftime show. I *could* be wrong, but I really doubt it. If he were playing the halftime show to promote a concert CD or new material, I'd agree with you. But to play some of his old songs to an old(er) crowd and allow them to enjoy a nice, easy halftime show...that's the best thing the NFL could've done with this year's show.

Chris Collinsworth is the WORST. The quality of that guy's "insight" is about as good as his Bengals.
'HIS' Bengals were 67-53 during his career. They went to 2 Super Bowls in his 8 NFL seasons. They went 4-11 in the 87 strike year and the scrubs were 1-3 - so really he was 66-50.

It'd be kind of hard to get the Beatles back together....somebody would have to dig up Ringo. :D
I guess I'm in the minority, but that was one of the first Super Bowl halftime shows I've ever seen that I enjoyed.

Stuck in a Super Bowl party here. Thoughts...
1. I *really* hate watching football with non-football people. "What does that mean?" (illegal prodecure sign) Ugh. Learn the game in the preseason and regular season, or just shut up.
I feel the same way, which is why I'm not at a Super Bowl party. I hate hearing people who are always saying how dumb it is to run up the middle, or on one play earlier in the year when someone said, 'why was the defensive end all the way back there,' when he'd gotten a pick off a zone blitz. I tried explaining the concept behind it and the response was, 'well that's dumb to put a lineman in coverage,' even though the guy had just made the INT.
That and when watching football I prefer to be able to look at the game stats from sportsline.
That was a phenomenal blitz pickup.

You mention that there's only one other surviving Beatle then say I'm overanalyzing? ;)
I'm aware of the situation that's why I said it ain't gonna happen but to be technical since Paul was the first beatle to die they should have had Ringo up there singing. ;)
Since I happen to like McCartney I'd have been happy if he'd just stuck to his own work. I really wasn't thinking about the promote himself angle. I was happy to see that he was performing and would have beeen into it but when he started with Beatles stuff it turned me off. Again, it could just be me.

As for now I'd go Harrison, Gay, Branch, Dillon. But if Brady gets another TD pass here, I see everyone voting for him, which means I hope there's more than just fan voting rather there's a commitee and the fan vote counts for 1 for the winner, should Philly have some sort of comeback in the last couple minutes.
