Seth McFarlane has now been given the opportunity to make 2 awful tv shows....Impressive.

It took me awhile to warm up to Family Guy.
Hopefully American will get better. Maybe the secondary characters we have not met yet will save this show, Otherwise it should have an early funeral.
(EDITED) Best thing about this show for me was finally seeing an official add for the return of Family Guy next Sunday!!!

Family Guy is great. However, Family Guy relies on getting many different references that cover a wide range of subjects. American Dad has been very disappointing :(
I agree that this was one of the worst Simpsons episodes that I have seen in a long time.

I love The Simpsons, but that episode was terrible.
American Dad had some funny gags, but there was really nothing that we hadn't already seen on TFG...

Good news. American DAD will not be back untill May. That gives then 3 months to completely rewrite another pilot episode.
where were all the secondary characters; The neighbors and the co-workers? I can not imagine Family Guy without Peter's neighbors and coworkers.
It could be worse...Have you checked out "Tom goes to the Mayor"?

Simpsons was awful. Next week looks even worse.
American Dad was, shall we say... HORRIBLE!!! THe only part that made me laugh was the part that had nothing to do with the family at all: The Iraqi IKEA bit.

So, you're idea of making it a good show is to make it a copy of Family GUy? Yeah, that would have made Futurama an excellent show if Groening did that.
American Dad didn't suck. All the guys I watched it with laughed their ass off. One guy seemed a little upset because he said it was "obviously written by a liberal," but who gives a crap. He laughed at practically the whole show, so it really shouldn't matter who wrote it.
The show was funny for the first 2/3, but the last 1/3 was just boring. The alien wasn't funny, but hopefully they'll flesh it out more. The fish was funny when it peeked down the woman's shirt, it was sort of a subtle humor, but otherwise I thought it fell flat. The dad was funny I thought. The mom wasn't given too much to do.
I think it needs work, but it could be a solid show if they cleaned it up a little bit. It was fairly outlandish, but if they'll going to run with the characters they have, they just need to let loose with it.

I'm a Family Guy fan, and I wasn't to pleased with 'American Dad' tonight. It's going to be nearly impossible to not have this show weaken Family Guy (inadvertantly), and may end up sinking them both.
It's obvious McFarlane was caught by surprise when they wanted to bring Family Guy back, and now he's stuck with a second show that's a bit too similar to his first.

Funny comment to me, since reading through this thread I have seen several "right wing" people who seem to hate both American Dad after one episode, and Family Guy.
Obviously it would not be that way across the board, but seems like an interesting "sample" to me of who likes it.

I don't understand the Futurama refrence as I did like that "son of simpsons" show better than Family Guy. I do think what makes Family Guy tick is Seth Mcfarlan's secondary character development. So, yes I expext Seth to surround American DAD with interesting neighbors and coworkers that the fans will come to know.
BTW--- Was it me or did the alien remind anyone else of Uncle Arthur from Bewitched?

Futurama rocked the house, BTW.
Fox would have been smart to kill off the Simpsons and throw their muscle behind it when they had the chance.

I am 21. I loved Charlotte's Web as a little kid. It's probably been a good 10 years since I have seen the movie, but I can still hear the voices of a couple of the characters in my head.

Family Guy is funny as hell. It's one of those shows you kinda need to have a sense of humor about though. I don't think that many far-wing politic people would like it. I like FG because it has so much diversity and I laugh my ass off to it.
I didn't watch AD, but I am guessing Seth wrote it after FG went off, so I am not sure that he is really pushing it with the return of FG now.

Well Uncle Arthur was always on the verge and Paul Lynde the actor was completly "Out". So, why not a transexual, gender "Bender" alien?
I know Seth was always pushed or pulled to make either Stewie or Chris gay on Family Guy.

I loved Futurama and hate that it was cancelled. :( I also liked today's Simpsons episode. I didn't like American Dad too much. Are they going to show Family Guy and American Dad both starting May? That's a huge mistake I think. American Dad already re-used a funny part from Family Guy (the falling fast through a table). I hope more jokes aren't re-used...

I thought the Simpsons was pretty hilarious tonight. Tom Brady running into the locker room then coming out riding an IT with a banner? I was rooting for the Eagles tonight but that still killed me.

I don't think 'falling through a table' can really be considered a joke that is specific to one show. It's generic 'physical' comedy. Now if they'd had the grim reaper having sex with a dead girlfriend, that would be re-using a joke from the Family Guy.

Family Guy fan here too and I was disappointed in both shows. Neither was funny, but then again, I haven't found the simpsons to be funny in a very long time. Is it possible that Fox is testing out other Cartoons for primetime because the Simpsons will be ending in the near future, so they are looking for replacements?

American Dad truly sucked ass. I watched it and laughed a single time...my g/f didnt laugh at all. Simpsons was ok...I liked the "Tom is the best" thing. I loved Family Guy so its not that I dont get Macfarlane's humor, I just though American Dad was boring and dumb.

The alien is voiced by ... Seth MacFarlane
And the imdb.com notes say the voice was "based on Paul Lynde", so the reference is apparently intentional.
(I'm a little disturbed that any group of people think of him more as Templeton the Rat than as Uncle Arthur or even The Center Square, but it was still a pretty good catch)

Simpsons has been pretty week for around 4 or 5 years or so. The show has really lost it.
Never did like the Family Guy all that much and American Dad was ok at best. The fish was funny.

Well, the falling really quickly through a table... the first ever Family Guy episod I saw had Peter eating Rum ice cream, and falling through a table like that. Now the first episode of American Dad I saw had someone falling through a table really fast like thata again. Considering it's by the same person... and it didn't sit well with me. That's all I was saying. I hope both shows don't use the same material. Some of the music was the same in American Dad as in Family Guy. That'll get old fast when both shows are on at the same time.

I do not think so.
It looks like Family Guy will begin airing new episodes on Fox this Sunday and American Dad will begin Airing new Episodes this Sunday at 11:30 PM on the Cartoon Network.
Probably a package deal.

The FG on this Sunday is not new. I saw the commercial last night and one, I've seen that one before, and two, the list of shows from 7 until 10 specifically said which ones were "all new," and FG was the only one without the "all new" designation. I think they're trying to slowly get people back into it, so they don't throw a bunch of new episodes at people who aren't interested, and have the show flop for a second time.
I could be wrong, but I specifically looked for that in the commercial last night, so if it's new, the commercial was wrong.

Yeah its not a new Family Guy this Sunday. I believe the new ones start later this year.
Edit: May 1st for new FG episodes. Also this American Dad crap is having an effect on Arrested Development, which is actually a good show. Fuck Fox.

It's not even that. When you watch the two back-to-back on Cartoon Network, particularly when it went from Futurama to Family Guy rather than Family Guy to Futurama as it is now, you see just how hollow and soulless Family Guy is. It's just a bunch of old and new pop culture jokes and low brow humor with a plot loosely strung around them. You could tell they started from the jokes and tried to shoehorn a plot around an Optimus Prime joke and Kool-Aid Man joke that they thought was funny at the table reading for the day. Futurama, like early Simpsons just has some meat to the show that Family Guy completely lacks and although there are some episodes that clunk, like all shows, on the whole, it was just a much better show. On CN, I'd have this nice feeling from watching Futurama completely tossed away by how vapid the Family Guy seemed after watching something better before it.

Oh, and I agree. The Simpsons was TERRIBLE after the Super Bowl. :(
