k i guess the Pro Bowl is left, but what are your thoughts on the upcoming draft? Who do you want your team to pick, who dont you want them to pick. Who's the sleepers and busts?

As a Dolphin fan I'm not thrilled with the idea of taking another RB from Texas with dreadlocks.

Cincinnati should NOT in any way select a WR.

Address the real needs, don't overstuff an already strong position.

If there is no run stuffing DT available, look for an C/OG big enough to blast run stuffing DT's off the ball if that is not available find a REAL TE then perhaps look at LB or secondary help. if NOTHING like that is available..then a WR is acceptable, since that means there is nothing left in the draft but WR's.

hell I could even live with another major RB pickup, since there are so many. Put the fear of the one year tag into Rudi and get his ass signed.

Cedric Benson? I'd take him if I were the Dolphins. Their defense should still be good, maybe a few holes to fill. They traded a second rounder for their QB. They have no threat on the ground, it wouldn't be the worst move they could make.

If I'm the Dolphins, I trade down and multi-draft some O-Line help. I can get a good RB in FA this year.

Now, for the two teams I "support":

New England (because I grew up there): I dunno. Maybe secondary or O-Line help, but probably just BPA @ #32.

Chicago (where I live now): I dunno, what not to get? :) Again, some talent in the O-Line would help, but a good WR wouldn't come amiss. Give Grossman a good year to try and prove himself. If he doesn't, Chicago should have a good position to try for Leinart anyway. :D

I want the Browns to trade down to get OL help. If they have to stay at #3 then Johnson from Texas, Rolle from Miami.

They say that Crennel will move Courtney Brown to a OLB and bring in a 3-4 defense so we would need a DE to replace him.

I want the Cowboys to draft three starters (preferably Pro Bowlers) in the first two rounds.

Of course, I also want world peace. On the whole, I think world peace has a better chance of happening in April.

Steelers should be looking at best available RB, CB, or TE in the first three rounds. If Burress leaves in FA (expected), add a speedy WR to those choices. On the second day, I expect to see them take some "projectable" 3-4 style players, some offensive line players to develop, and maybe a #3 QB to develop into Ben's backup.

I would be surprised to see them take a QB before the 5th round. If Burress stays, they should have a pretty solid set of receivers.

Ah, my Bengals.. I want the following picks to happen-

1st round, if available, Anttaj Hawthorne
2nd round, A center to groom for a year behind Braham
3rd round, RB Darren Sproles
4th- 7th, a Tight End, Some LB help, and insurance at DT or in the defensive backfield.

I think the only way to get a good TE would be to snatch one from a team like Indy or New England.. Pollard or Graham would be nice. Maybe Teyo Johnson from Oakland..

Or, if they wanted to take a flyer, take Matt Jones and turn him into a TE.

Sproles seems exciting. He looks like he could be a guy like Dave Meggett or Eric Metcalf that touches the ball only a few times a game, but can make big things happen.

I think WR Mike Williams is a great fit for Chicago. With all their speedy, dropsy little slot receivers, a huge, monster-at-the-goalline, possession guy would be an instant boost to the O. If they keep that Michigan bust at #2 (name escapes me, I've been working for the last umpteen hours straight), fine, but you can't pass up a 6'5, 229 lb, 4.43 with good hands. (No references to Plaxico Burress, please.)

As for my beloved Broncos--gotta get some WR help, but in first round--go DL.

I think Sproles will be one of the next big role players, and if he gets a chance, I bet he could carry a Dunn-like load for a team.. I think way too much is made of a guys size and ability to take punishment. Fact is, he has stayed healthy, is built like a brick house, and carried a huge load for KState. I would take him and give him a shot as a 10-15 touches a game type of spark plug.. Players like this have a dramatic effect on defensive game planning and open up an offense. I really hope Cinci goes for him in the middle of the third round.

The Niners should trade down and draft defensively. Maybe take a QB in the later rounds and go after a QB in the free agent market since the talent in this years draft isnt that great.

The Patriots will take the best available. Personally if there's a good S or CB remaining that would be my top choice.

The Lions. Well, it's tough. Their needs are pretty clear: OG and safety. A lot depends on what happens during free agency. If the lose Stockar McDougle and don't replace him, they'll need a new starting right tackle. There is no blue chip OT in this draft and possibly no one worth the 10th pick over all. Same goes with safety. Safety is a huge need for the Lions. Their current duo Brock Marion and Bracy Walker pretty much suck. A good safety (Harrison, Reed, etc.) can make a huge difference for a defense. There are some decent safeties out there (though many are predicting Thomas Davis will play LB in the NFL), but none worth the 10th pick, I think.

That leaves TE. While not a huge need for the Lions, they could certainly use an upgrade. A lot of early mocks have the Lions picking Heath Miller out of Virginia. Some also have them drafting a CB (Adam Jones or Antrell Rolle). The Lions have spent a lot of money on CB during the last two years of FA (Bly and Bryant).

It will be an interesting year. The Lions have some flexibility with what they do with the pick and I feel the last two years (especially this last one), they have drafted pretty well.

I'd like to see Washington draft a decent WR or offensive/defensive lineman.

I guess a lot depends on free agency.

S Holt must be in someones dog house since he always seems to make plays when allowed the opportunity. I'd like to see him and FA or Draft pickup start next year. Rotate Brock Marion in and Safety should be set.

I agree. Holt is a ballhawk. He makes interceptions, forces fumbles, recovers them. Things happen when he's out there. I don't understand his lack of playing time at all. At. all.

There are a couple of FA safeties out there, Kennedy from Oakland and Darius from Jacksonville seem to be the two most likely. Though I think the Jags will re-sign Darius either that or he'll be asking for way too much.

I'm hoping 2 things for KC:

1. Picking up a top notch corner in FA. There should be quite a few very good ones available, so no need to waste it in the draft. I also think that CB is one position you can't make an immediate impact with a rookie.

2. Drafting OLB/S Thomas Davis (Georgia) in the first round. Davis is the type of player IMHO that can cover these new TEs.

As an added bonus his own offense (IF KC can get him) features a TE that can help train him by showcaseing what these new TE's can do.

Hm, according to that list, it would indicate Dallas didn't sign a veteran cornerback (I think Fred Smoot would be a great fit despite that he'll be pricey). I think Dallas needs to get a starting right tackle, cornerback, and maybe safety in free agency, and then draft defensive linemen / linebackers in the first round, primarily guys who can pass rush (a huge team weakness ever since Charles Haley left the team).

I am really hoping the Lions can get DE - Cody, DE - Spears, or CB - Jones.

In another way, I think taking Mike Williams would be extremely interesting. Williams, Williams and Rogers would make for a potentially unbelievably explosive offense. Plus, if Rogers can't stay helthy, it ensures that the Lions would still have two amazing talents at reciever.

I agree with what you said above, but I don't think that DE shouold be neglected. James Hall had a great year, but that's just one. On the other side Kalimba Edwards hasn't shown that he can play every down (since he can't stop the run), and what's worse, he didn't pressure the QB like he' was supposed to last year. I think there are a few very good DEs that should be around when the Lions pick, and considering the immense value of extremely talented DEs, I think the Lions should take one if available. Just my opinion.

I have to disagree, I think DE would be about the third or fourth priority on the team right now. I think an upgrade at safety is mandatory, and I would not mind seeing them work on the o-line and at tight end. Personally, I would like to see them trade down a bit and pick up an extra pick or two.

Agreed. Can't argue with that, Sparty. Another solid DE would be great and really solidify the Lions front four. A lot of talent and depth. A good front four that can put pressure on the QB can really help out a weaker secondary (see: the Patriots).

I am just not sure who to go with at DE... Each prospect has some major questions. Can Spears be a pass rushing threat? Can James stay healthy? Is Merriman big enough? I guess the Lions could use Merriman as a pass rushing specialist, rotating with Redding. I am a big fan of Redding, but he's better at stopping the run than he is at getting to the QB.

I would have no problem with them trading down and picking up a TE and a OG, I just don't see either of those positions making as much of a difference as a big-time DE. I mean they COULD, but the talent at those two positions in this year's draft doesn't seem to be that great in the 1st round. As far as safties go, I am neve for drafting a saftey in the first couple of rounds, unless you can get a Reed or Wiliams. I don't see that either.

When you have a top 10 pick you have to get the biggest impact guy you can at a position of need, even if that need is 3rd or 4th. Another stud on the line can make up for a LOT of deficiencies in the secondary, and I am a firm believer that Holt will be a very good S if given the playing ime.

I love Redding, I just see him (like you) as a running stopping DE. I actually think that he could eventually take over for Big Daddy as a good all-around DT if he bulks up a bit. I LOVE Cody, and would almost trade UP for him, but I think I might be the only Lions fan to even consider that. :)

I guess the thing is, I still hold out hope that Kalimba can be an effective player. Obviously, if you don't share this point of view, you would feel that getting a DE would be a higher priority. I agree that it very well could become a problem spot, but I would hate seeing them use a high first-round pick on something that isn't a huge priority at this moment.

If Kiper is right on with his mock, I would rather have the Cowboys pick Derrick Johnson with that first pick. Sure it's not a immediate need but Derrick Johnson looks good. I like Kiper's Antrelle Rolle selection for the 'boys second 1st rounder.

If Derrick Johnson doesn't fall, I would draft a CB with the first pick (I like Antrelle Rolle) and then Matt Roth, the DE from Iowa as he looks to have an endless motor.

With Woodson retiring, they'll also need to address the free safety position either in the draft or in FA.

I think I've seen four or five fans of teams that are wishing to trade down. That doesn't make this Niner fan happy. Someone's gotta be willing to trade up. Like I said in our last draft thread, the best situation would be for a couple guys to have monster combines that vault them WAY up in the first round (like DeWayne Robertson did two years ago) that would entice some teams to move up.

I really want a QB for the Niners, but nooooooooo way at #1. Best case scenario would involve a trade down of maybe 7-8 picks, where I would be really happy with Aaron Rodgers, also picking up another mid-to-late first in the process where we could get some help at, well...ANYWHERE!!!

For the Texans... priority has to be either line. If they take a reciever I will scream. I would be happy with either Jammal Brown or Alex Barron, defensive linewise I would like to see either Marcus Spears or Shaun Cody, both of whom would make decent 3-4 defensive ends. I could also live with Shaunee Merriman who would IMO make an excellent rush linebacker in the 3-4. If Derrick Johnson drops although he might not be as good a fit in a 3-4 he's got so much talent.

Heath Miller is the surest thing for me in this draft and could contribute right away but I don't know if I'm willing to take a tight end this high.

Later rounds wise, a true nose tackle to back up Gary Walker would be nice and there should be a few around. A couple of good value interior linemen would also go down well.

I'm thinking the same thing about everyone wanting to trade down. I dunno man, I think they just needed the extra help on the active squad elsewhere and put him on the practice squad as a result. If it came down to 3 QBs having to play while he was on the PS, Randle-el could have filled in. I could be wrong, but I think they will stick with him. I hope they give him a chance in NFLE.

If this doesn't scream TEAM FUCKING CANCER, I dunno what does.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Two months ago, Braylon Edwards predicted he would be the first wide receiver taken in the NFL draft—even though ESPN analyst Mel Kiper had Southern California's Mike Williams going No. 1 overall.

"He won't go before me," Edwards said.

His mother, Malesa Plater, topped that by saying she expected her son to go No. 1 overall.

"There's no player who's going to have as big an impact as Braylon," she said. "Quarterbacks need two years to get acclimated to the system."

Both predictions might come true for Edwards, whom Kiper now has No. 2.

Edwards said going first overall "is a possibility. When I interview with teams, they're going to say: 'He's a good kid.'"

He's also a crowd-pleaser. The Michigan faithful serenaded him Tuesday night with chants of "Bray-lon Ed-wards!" as he took to the floor at Crisler Arena during a timeout to receive the Tribune Silver Football, awarded each season to the Big Ten's best player.

Edwards hoisted the trophy and waved to the crowd, turning 360 degrees.

Edwards has been preparing for the NFL combine by working out in Denver, which is home to his agent, Lamont Smith, who also represents big names such as Eddie George and Jerome Bettis.

"Whoever drafts me will not be disappointed," Edwards said. "I'd be happy to play anywhere."

But if the Bears take him at No. 4, Edwards said he might have to overcome a public-relations perception because of another former Michigan receiver, David Terrell.

"In Chicago I would already be in somewhat of a slump," he said, "because a lot of people would view me as Dave Terrell."

As a Michigan fan, I would have said no way that Edwards underwent a massive attitude adjustment between his junior and senior years. Before this year, he never seemed focus and would take not just plays, but whole games, off, or so it seemed. This year though, he looked totally refocused and dedicated. I still have some questions about him but would be much more confident in him than I would have been.

Slightly off topic, but did you see the College All Star challenge or whatever it was? Rodgers won the QB competitions but the best part was that there was some blonde hottie doing the interviews and Rodgers couldn't take his eyes off her and kept hitting on her w/ cheesy lines. At one point she asked him what he was going to do w/ the two tv's he won and he said something like 'maybe you can come over and watch a movie w/ me'. Pretty funny on the the UIC scale.

The Niners should trade down and draft defensively. Maybe take a QB in the later rounds and go after a QB in the free agent market since the talent in this years draft isnt that great.
No way this happens. The Niners picked an unfortunate year to finish at the bottom because there really isn't anybody worth trading a ransom for at the first spot. They really are stuck at one, I think. They have two choices:

a. Pick one of the two QB's and pray they pan out and become worth the pick.

or

b. Say to hell with the critics and conventional thought and select the non QB that they see as the best impact player available.

This is a similar situation to Cincinnati a couple years ago. I believe they really wanted to trade out but there were no takers so they took Carson Palmer. All indications are that this will pay off. However, the other option for the Bengals was Terrance Newman who only went a few picks later.

Agreed. This is the first time Schmidty and I have ever agreed on a UofM related subject, which means we can't be wrong. I do reckon this could be the last as well. :D

Though, as a Bears fan, I can understand your concern CW. David Terrell really hasn't worked out all that well for you. Bears fans have a right to be overly cautious or sensitive or whatever when it comes to UofM receivers who wear the #1 jersey.

"In Chicago I would already be in somewhat of a slump," he said, "because a lot of people would view me as Dave Terrell."

That's really the quote that got to me. Yes, he's right. But I'm of the opinion it's a Bad Idea (tm) to bag on your potential teammates like that.

I'd love to see the Redskins get Mike Williams. But I don't really think it'll happen.

That one seems better for the Falcs. I'd like to see them take a WR or OT in the 1st round this year. Go secondary later.

I have been hearing a lot about this Thomas Davis guy. That he could be a good OLB in a 3-4. Any of our Georgia fans care to tell me more about him?

You know what the first thing that jumps out at me from that mock?

I hate that Cornerback now has to be called Defensive Corner probably because some idiot highschool coach 'invented' a new position and called it Offensive Corner.

Bears - NONONONONONONO! Mike Williams is the best receiver in this draft. They do not need nor want another headache, play when I feel like it, God's gift to I don't have to work hard receivers, Michigan pampered baby wide receiver. Mike Williams has thrown down the guantlet while he's been out of football and would be a steal at the #5 spot.

Broncos - Kiper says OLB? Heck with that. I'm all for Scouts saying Spears from LSU. D-line is a big-time need.

Praying Halas Hall is hit by lighting and everyone there forgets Braylon Edwards name.
