Anyone here play this? I started playing it in 2002 and then quit because the following was large enough to sustain major offensives. However, tonight I re-installed the game had a blast. I love this war game only if there were a larger following....the concept is great and the graphics are actually way better than they ever have been. The version of the game is at 1.8.4, not sure if they are releasing a WWIIOL(2) game but it would be sweet!

yes. I just learned that there is going to be an expansion pack soon. North Africa Expansion Pack is what it will be called. The graphics and massiveness(?) is just outstanding.

...also, the North Africa expansion will have a new grpahics and terrian engine built into it. The original WWIIOL will be revamped and be called "Beyond Blitzkrieg" which will also have the new features.

It did have a pretty buggy launch. They have done a lot to clean it up over the years. I played it for a month last year. Our Half-Price bookstore had new copies of the game for $5 and I figured I'd see what this whole MMO thing was about (that being my first). It was ok - I definitely got my $5 out of it. When my month was over, I cancelled my account and moved on.
This is the BEST GAME EVER if you like WWII tactical games (please don't compare this game with a 3D shooter like the others around). I have played it for 6 months but had to stop playing it because the addiction was the worst ever. I joined a Spanish clan (axis side 250-hispana) that was heavily organized like the real army, and i spent hours and hours playing it as infantery mostly (i was pretty good with the LMG). One night after playing 16 hours straight without working on my websites i noticed i was going too far so i cancelled my subscription. I even refuse to read their forums at the risk of getting addicted again. Why the hell had you to name the game maximus? i feel the urge now to visit my old friends at the 250....

easily the buggiest launch ever. Since the terrible launch and losing most of their customers during the launch, they have offered free trials for 1-3 months on repeated occasions in the last couple of years. But nothing could ever get the taste of the first month or two out of my mouth to try it again.
While you installed the game for the first time, the game displayed an in-game screenshot. The screenshot they showed during the install had some sort of messed up screen, and a guy in chat saying "lol is that a flying tank?" ... really I should have taken that as a sign and just stabbed myself in the eyes right then rather than try to play the game.
Good for them if they've gotten it right since then though.

Radii, it has been patched and patched since then, with tons of new stuff added etc. It's a really solid game, as i said before, the best one for me.

Hmm, I would think the last thing the game needs is more area to spread the playerbase across.
I tried it for a free month, solo because none of my friends were into it. Possibly the hardest MMORPG around to get into.
I did finally get into a guild and took part in a bombing raid on the Allies industry which involved about 2 hours of sitting in the bombardier position and 2 seconds of work. That certainly wasn't my cup of tea.
The game itself has great moments though, the amount of work to get to the action does add a lot to the intensity of the fights when you do get there.
I might have to give it a go again here when I have some more time

That is why i love it, it's not a fast shooter where you get fast into action, kill and get killed dozens of times etc. This is a WWII simulator, with real tactics, where teamwork is a must, where you can walk 1 hour (real time) to find a good snipper spot, hidde there for 2 real time hours and just report the enemy moves to your headquarter without shooting any bullet. It's the real war, and that was that made me so addicted.

I hope you are drinking real time beer during this period. I found the game alternately frustrating and overwhelmingly boring.
