News
Although contract negotiations with quarterback Brian Griese (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/4322/) are still taking place, Tuesday's Tampa Tribune speculates that the Buccaneers will target free agent signal caller Jeff Garcia as a replacement should talks with Griese break down. The speculation is fueled by the fact that Garcia, who will be released by the Browns on February 22, paid his own way to Tampa for a meeting with Gruden last season. The Lions are also rumored to have interest in signing Garcia, who played for head coach Steve Mariucci in San Francisco.

Views
In the days that preceded Garcia's contract signing with the Browns, Jeff's father told reporters that his son was going to sign with the Buccaneers. Either Garcia never bothered to tell his father that he was going to Cleveland or his father was a year off in his prediction. We're betting on the former. Call it a hunch, but we have a sneaking suspicion that this wasn't the first time that Jeff has kept a secret from his father…not that there's anything wrong with that.

Whither Brad Johnson. Did he just lose his skills to age or what? I found it strange that Gruden is/was so hyped up to find a QB when he already had one that won a Super Bowl for him. I don't really follow the Bucs, so I didn't get to see what the deal with Johnson was.

Jeff Garcia personally ruined Carmella Decesare for me. Can't look at her now without thinking about that guy.

Serenity now.

The Bucs weren't winning with Johnson, switched to Chris Simms, Simms got hurt (after showing a bit of promise if I remember correctly), Griese took over, and the Bucs offense started moving the ball.

Yeah, but I would rather have a young guy who could possibly develop than another washed up retread...

Stay. Away. From Dallas

Yeah. Vinny Testaverde is the QB of the future there.

Seriously, I don't blame you... I'm deathly afraid of seeing Garcia in a Redskins uniform...

Brad Johnson was never that good. I think that his already mediocre passing abilities have waned in the last few years, and he's done. He should feel lucky to have a Super Bowl ring, and he ought to retire and open a car dealership or something.

Granted that you can get a quality young guy in here.

Maybe they should actually give Henson a shot rather than just 1.5 games...

I would be ecstatic to see Vinny go back to the Jets like he was talking about last week...

And please, no Bledsoe either. I shudder just thinking about that...

That would be nice. I'm seriously doubting whether he'll ever get a chance with big Bill in command.

I'd be kind of surprised if Bledsoe is not the Cowboys' QB next season.

I'd be surprised if he is actually. I think they have to find out about Henson, and even though Parcells doesn't seem to keen on that idea, Jones will probably push him into playing Henson as he has to look to the future at some point.

Henson will get a shot in camp no doubt. The Cowboys would be better served to go with youth at that position.

Parcells usually doesn't get pushed ;). He may every once in a while, but will revert back to what he wants pretty soon. Bledsoe was his QB when he went to the SuperBowl with the Pats, so he may want him again. Bledsoe did play his best when Parcells was around.

I beg to differ with you. Brad was always a very good qb that put up great numbers but didn't look like a prototypical qb so was always being looked at to be replaced. He did well in Minnesota and Washington and finally won a ring in Tampa and he shouldn't feel lucky for it. He had one heck of a season and an amazing postseason run. Without Brad, Tampa wouldn't have had a Super Bowl ring so I think Tampa fans should and do feel lucky to have had him.

That said, it is correct that his mediocre passing abilities, you know, third best accuracy in league history, extremely mediocre stuff has vanished as has
his confidence in his ability. He has become tentative and makes bad decisions, partially because of his horrid oline in front of him. He isn't really an asset at this point in his career.

AP is reporting that Bledsoe will be released soon. Can Dallas be too far away? :)

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, unless it means we don't re-sign Vinny and Bledsoe rides the bench. However, I find the second half of that scenario to be very unlikely...

I just can't imagine Parcells feels that he has enough time left in his career to break in a new QB.

I don't understand why the Cowboys didn't at least send one of their young QBs to NFL Europe.

Unless that's why Woody Dantzler was sent....

The reason they didn't send Henson is because most assume he'd go into the year as the starter, and they didn't want him playing a full season in Europe before playing a full season here. Romo apparently opted not to go as well, thinking that he'd learn more about the system by staying in the offseason program.

It is possible that Dallas signs Bledsoe rather than Vinny, but it seems to me that they have already given assurances to Testaverde that he will be re-signed. If they sign Bledsoe and Vinny, it indicates a couple of things in my opinion. One, that Parcells has absolutely no faith in Henson at all. And two, that Parcells and Jones are finally beginning the quarrel that everyone assumed would happen long ago.

Jones has made it clear to the press that he wants to prepare for the future with a young QB. Parcells has said no such thing, and as some have commented, he doesn't seem like the type to wait out development or be told what to do.

However, Jerry Jones isn't one to give away control either. Should make for an interesting situation.

Yeah, but does anyone actually think the Cowboys can go anywhere with Vinny or Bledsoe at the helm? Hopefully Big Bill feels the same way...
