So I used to be squarely in the anti-tattoo camp, but I may have changed my mind due to one young, innocent-looking lass who works at my son’s day care. She is the classic girl-next-door type, very sweet, cute smile, the whole deal. But lo and behold she’s got a strategically placed tattoo design on the small of her back, and DAMN if it doesn’t just work. Makes the mind wander a bit…

They can work but only on the right women. And it shouldn't be anything visible when she is fully clothed, small of the back is okay. Gives you something to stare at while you're riding her doggystyle.

I hadn;t really thought about tattoos until one ex of mine: had a very sexy tattoo beginninng at the top of the inner thighm just around the trouser line. First date she showed me this tattoo - a cat's paw print, about an inch high: thought yeah, quite nice, discreet - it works. Find out a couple of dates later that's the top one of three paw prints leading down... found it strangely alluring!

I don't like tattoos on anybody.
But as for them being on women specifically, I don't believe that tattoos necessarily make them look slutty, but they can be very distracting.

I have two tattoos (and yes, I'm a female for those who forgot) but one is on the small of my back and the other is sort of on my hip. The one on my back is a feminine tribal design (about 5" long and 3" wide) and I have a moon and star on my hip (about the size of a quarter). But I think since both can be easily hidden, they're not a problem. The boyfriend loves them both, especially when we're "gettin' it on"! (I figure since this forum is majority male, I had better put that into terms you guys would understand.) I think that some tattoos can be very sexy in the right place, on the right girl...

My wife was looking into getting one a few years back and while I didn't outright tell her not to get one (I certainly don't have that kind of authority) I was successful in talking her out of it.
My thought is this, yeah they can look sexy on the right woman in the right place with the right design, but they are permanent. I asked my wife if she wears the same styles of clothing now that she wore in jr. high. Obviously that answer is no. What is in style or looks good now, may look ridiculous in 10 years. Tatoos on women, especially in the small of the back, are very popular right now. I'm not so sure I'd find it very attractive on her in when she's 40.

The trick is to find someone before you turn forty that agrees to stay with you forever. Then you don't have to worry about impressing people at forty. ;)

She has that. She knows I'm not going anywhere, especially not over something like a tatoo. But I'm glad she respected my opinion on the subject. I made it clear it was only my opinion. She's a big girl and can make her own decisions.
Funny thing is, it came up as part of some Thelma and Louise scheme by a friend of hers who was married to one of my best friends. This girl tried like made to get my wife to go along with her. It was less than a year later that she suddenly up and left my friend. I think I got the better of that deal. Thank God my wife didn't get the tatoo. :D

Ekk! Well good thing she didn't go! See, my two tattoos were thought out and planned for quite awhile. I didn't get them on a whim. I had wanted them for a couple years and debated over whether I wanted something permanent on my skin. I went ahead with it any way, and I still love them! Like I said, they are hidden 99.9% of the time, unless my shirt happens to lift up a little in the back or in a bathing suit during the summertime. I sometimes forget they're even there!

My wife has two tattoos, a dragonfly on her lower back and a cloverleaf on her ankle. Honestly, I don't even notice them anymore, even the one on the back when in the right position ;)
She's tried talking me into getting one, and I'm not against the idea, but I've never seen a design I liked enough to be permanently on my skin.
I have, however, been pretty firm about saying no to her getting a tongue piercing. It could be fun, I just don't like the idea in general.

I too am female and I have 2 tattoos so far (and others planned).
I have a tribal-style bat on my right shoulderblade. It was designed by my brother, and is roughly 2.5x4"
I also have a Native American symbol for strength on the outside of my right calf. Obviously, if I wear shorts it's noticeable, but I don't care because I really like it. Granted, I can't easily wear skirts to work anyway because of all the scars on my legs, so most people don't see it.

I am in the indifferent crowd. If a woman has tatoos that fit her personality and can be hidden when clothed, more power to her. My wife doesn't have tatoos, and it wouldn't bother me if she did. I myself have two.

I certainly wouldn't want my wife to have a tattoo, and generally, I think they look awful on a woman, but I am not bothered by stuff like a butterfly on the ankle. I think tattoos are stupid in general, and it's a definite turnoff. But something small and discreet like that doesn't make me want to puke right on the spot.

See now that would be funny. I know you are married but the visual of you taking a date home, taking off her shirt to find a tattoo on her shoulder and you subsequently puking on her chest is gold.

tatoos now are what piercing your ears use to be. Everyone has one now. I'm pretty indifferent to them, but the only thing that annoys me is when people insist on showing you them. As if I'm uspposed to care. It's pretty telling as to why a girl got the tatoo to begin with (which is a huge turn off, the need for attention)

I'm so insulted by this on so many levels that I'm tempted to quit reading this forum in general because of idiot comments like that. Luckily I know that the world is full of idiots and I may as well just get used to it.
NOT ALL PEOPLE WHO GET TATTOOS (OR PIERCINGS, FOR THAT MATTER) ARE DOING IT FOR ATTENTION. So let's just clear up that shit now.
As for all you assholes who think that you'd turn away if you saw a woman with ink. Good for you. We don't want you anyway.
Yes there is something to be said for the 18 year old who at beach week after graduation goes and gets some crappy flash put on their skin. Maybe not the most attractive thing, but hey it was their choice. Maybe all you men who don't like women with tattoos just don't like women who make their own choices and decisions.
There is also something to be said for ANYBODY who actually goes through the trouble of creating a design on their own. You'll find those people actually have reasons other than "look at me" and if you can't handle it, go suck it.
Personally I'm proud of my tattoos. I have two, and if people can see them when I wear shorts or a tank-top, so be it. If they want to see them because they've "heard about my tattoos" I'm happy to show them.
But stop fucking generalizing women (in particular, but also men) with tattoos based on your own stupidity.
I will NEVER feel ashamed or embarrased by my ink or piercings. Granted, my piercings are significantly reduced due to some surgical problems. But anybody that thinks different of me because of holes or ink...frankly, I think you and I wouldn't get along anyway. I like those that have a brain and can consider ALTERNATE reasons for getting ink or holes. And yes, there are some.

I'm a little bit disturbed by the equation of "tattoos + women = sexy/not sexy," to be honest.
Why does gender matter when it comes to tattoo aesthetics? If a tattoo is gonna look dorky on somebody when they hit 40, it'll look dorky whether they're male or female.
There may be legitimate reasons for why tattoos are/aren't good things, but "They don't look good on women" or "They make her look slutty" aren't among them. Unless you're prepared to say the same thing about guys.

You need to read more carefully. I didn't say all people who get tatoos do it for attention, I said those people who insist on showing everyone their tatoos are the ones who do it for attention.
The number of people I know who have tatoos far outnumber the ones I know who don't. My two closest friends have tatoos but they don't go around showing them to everyone. If someone asks to see them, that's different. But I've known people who will forcefully bring up tatoos in a discussion for the sole purpose of showing off their tatoos. Those are the people I'm talking about. Try not to jump to conclusions so quickly next time.

I don't like tattoos generally, but I'm only going to suggest that I don't find tattoos to be sexy on women. I'm not prepared to say the same about men, because I don't think I've ever judged whether a man, tattooed or not, is sexy.
As for whether they look stupid, sure - it applies equally. Although I'm sure there are some people who believe they look fine on men, but not on women.

I had no idea that this would become such a serious, combative discussion. That was certainly not my intent, and I apologize if any of my comments were insensitive.
That being said, I phrased the poll the way I did for a reason. In my experience, which is admittedly limited, the reactions that men have are usually one of those choices. There are many exceptions, I'm sure.

Judging someone's intelligence based on their aesthetic opinions seems more intolerant as the aesthetic opinions themselves.
I find tattoos visually displeasing. It would, most likely, be a deterrant if I were still in the market. But I don't make the mistake of assuming that a woman with a tattoo is an asshole or incredibly stupid.
Every time I see a tattoo, I imagine what it's going to look like at age 50, when there are some wrinkles and perhaps some teenagers in tow. Now a tattoo might be a fun thing if it were just a hookup, but that older image might be a deterrant to a longer relationship. I have no idea why semi-or non-permanent body art isn't more popular.

I have 2 tattoos, and would get another in a heartbeat if I found a design I really loved or could sketch something out - I just haven't figured out exactly what I want yet.
I have a butterfly on my right ankle, about an inch squared, maybe 1.25 inches squared. I also have a tribal heart design on the top of my left foot, that I love. If I wear socks no one notices it, and when I have sandals on, which is most of the time, I get tons of compliments on it. But I did it because I wanted it and have never regretted either one of them.
Radii doesn't like tattoos on women, and as he said when I asked him if he posted in this thread, he is more diplomatic than that :)
