So Says Rotoworld:
Laveranues Coles is expected to get released Tuesday.
Easily the most surprising news of the offseason thus far. Coles reportedly requested to leave the club more than once and is being given his wish. In our eyes, Coles jumps to the top of the free agent wide receiver list. His production slowed last year, but he still caught 90 balls while injured in a terrible offense. This move means Washington is almost certain to sign a top free agent wideout, if not two. Feb. 21 - 10:44 am et

You can't blame Joe Gibbs for the rumor that Derrick Mason may be getting released as well. What is up with very good receivers getting released?

The Titans are $27m over the cap, hence Mason getting released.
What's the Skins' cap number?

Probably that they can score 12 points a game without him.

As a follow-up, LT Samuels just signed a huge deal to get the Skins under the cap.

Coles said he wanted out becuase the offense is well .. conservative would be too kind of a word.
Gibbs is from the old school of we only want guys who want to be part of Redskin tradition (not sure that mentality works in today's free agent / salary cap world).
But I'm not sure they can out right release him unless he agrees to return the $5M bonus money - otherwise they take a big hit this year. Maybe the Samuel deal makes it financially viable to release him.
Either way, I wouldn't out right release him, unless they know something about his physical condition that we dont...
