Boy did Linda Lovelace get screwed on this movie....literally i guess. I read something that said this movie was made for 25k and has grossed 600 million. Is that really possible? Most profitable movie ever that article said.

And now, to add injury to insult, I think her main focus in life is anti-porn crusading. Tough break, that.

I saw a special...on the History channel I believe...that covered Deep Throat in detail. As I recall they said that the mob bankrolled the movie and raked in the profits as well. All the people that appeared in or worked on the film got squat.
HBO's Pornucopia also had a segment about it.

Mini biography
Linda Lovelace, the most famous porn star of all time, was born Linda Boreman in 1949. In the late 1960s, she began a relationship with Chuck Traynor. She appeared in eight verified 8mm hard-core fetish loops. Her breakthrough came with the feature Deep Throat (1972). Surprisingly, the film became a runaway hit, playing to sell-out crowds in "respectable" cinemas; it is still considered the quintessential adult film of all time. With her newfound celebrity, Linda divorced Traynor, but was unable to sustain a movie career. After the R-rated Deep Throat Part II (1974) and the soft-X Linda Lovelace for President (1975) proved box-office disasters, she faded from sight. In 1980, she re-emerged as the author of Ordeal, her controversial autobiography. She fell in with the radical feminist movement, testifying before the Meese Commission on the supposed dangers of pornography. She died following a car accident in April, 2002.

Trivia
Born 6:15 am-EST
Her snake, Damien, actually bit the "Macho Man" Randy Savage. The snake had been de-venomised, though.
Made many claims about the adult film industry and her ex-husband/manager in her books, including that she was forced to perform legal and illegal sex acts at gun point.
Was the adult film industry's first star to become a household name, and is now one of the adult film industry's most outspoken critics.
Following the end of their marriage, Chuck Traynor married and helped guide the career of Marilyn Chambers (the 1970s second most famous adult film star).
Children: son Dominic born in 1977 and daughter Lindsay born in 1980.
Was involved in bad car accident on April 3 2002 in Denver, Colorado that left her with massive trauma and internal injuries and left her on life support. She was taken off life support by on her family on April 22, 2002 and died shortly after. Her ex-husband Larry Marchiano and two adult children were at the hospital when she died.
In her autobiography "Ordeal" and in the TV program Linda Lovelace: The E! True Hollywood Story (2000) (TV), Linda revealed that she gave birth to a son out-of-wedlock when she was 20 years old in 1969, and that her mother put him up for adoption.
Gerard Damiano, director of Deep Throat (1972), gave Linda Boreman her professional name of "Linda Lovelace". This is because he wanted "LL" initials to represent what he considered the new sex symbol of the 70s, just as "MM" (Marilyn Monroe) and "BB" (Brigitte Bardot) represented the sex symbols of the 50s.
Linda's nickname in high school was "Miss Holy Holy," because she kept her dates at a safe distance.
Dressed up as a Southern belle in virgin-white, Lovelace arrived at the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion in a horse-drawn carriage on Oscar night, April 2, 1974. Her attempt to cash in on the publicity generated by the Academy Awards was thwarted when Paul Newman, husband of Best Actress nominee Joanne Woodward, arrived at the same time and attracted the attention of press photographers.

[US News]: Who was Deep Throat?
A committed handful of readers responded to our unscientific survey on who is Deep Throat, Bob Woodward's mysterious source for his Watergate stories for The Washington Post.
Of the responses received, two said Fred Fielding, deputy counsel to former President Richard Nixon; two said Pat Buchanan, former speech writer for Nixon; one said former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger; one said former Chief of Staff Alexander Haig; one said former President George H.W. Bush and, of course, one said Linda Lovelace, the porn actress who starred in the movie "Deep Throat."
"I have always thought that Henry Kissinger was Deep Throat," said Janice Beach of Eureka.

Okay, I think I may have been right, save for the tense. I believe she became an anti-porn crusader before her death.
Or, am I perhaps confusing her with another early porn icon? *shurg*

Yes she was an anti-porn crusader. I believe she testified before congress about it.

Most are fairly certain the $600M figure is highly overstated.
The mafia used their movie industry to launder money. Doubtful it grossed close to $600M. I'm sure it was still extremely profitable, though.

Deep Throat is by far the worst of the Holy Trinity of early Porn.
As a comedy and a discussion piece it has it's merits but as strictly jackoff material it's.....got....nuthin.
Behind The Green Door is both a good discussion piece, erotic movie and has a good deal of jackoffability.
Debbie Does Dallas is about young cheerleaders so it's hard to mess that up, and theres a great scene where the husband and wife seduce a cheerleader, it and BTGD are a close 1-2 in my mind as far as quality early porn.
Please take into account that there is heavy buckwheat bush going on in all 3 films, a byproduct of the times, although Chambers in BTGD (A pure goddess) and the girls in DDD all make up for that in my mind. Lovelace to me is not attractive at all and neither is anyone else in DT.

I don't know what it says about me, but the fact that somebody posted trivia about Jake "The Snake" Roberts in Linda Lovelace's IMBD bio just cracks me up.

Coo.
70's porn was better in that the subject matter and "movie" aspects of the films were much better than today. The women were, for the most part, just atrocious, and even if they were good looking there was always that buckwheat bush going on. I don't care how hot a girl is, when shes got hair running down to her asshole, goodbye.
Alot of people point to the 80's as the golden era, but to me It didn't really pick up until the arrivals of such chicks as Tracey Adams, Tori Welles, Jenna Fine, Ashlyn Gere, I guess mid to late 80's save for Adams. Bushes faded away, chicks got hotter and the storylines hadn't degenerated yet.
late 80's to mid 90's brought on your hotter chicks, Jenna, Jenteal, Chasey Lain, and alot of the 80's pros were still in bidness and rockin the house, it was a good time, although the domination of Vivid began to lower the quality of the films.
Late 90's thru the Present saw the influx of European films, Gonzo style and the domination of Vivid, 3 very bad things IMO. The girls today are really attractive but theyre a dime a dozen, very few big stars or standouts.
Man, i'm bored.
