Surprised there isn't a thread on this yet.

I'm rooting for Ulong, initially because a WSU student is on that team, but well, Kim sucks and she doesn't deserve to make it much longer. http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/%7Efof/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

There was a thread after the first episode, this last episode was basically so uneventful that it didn't even warrant it's own thread. :)

I did like the reward challenge though, a few of those people reminded me of watching that "DONT GET ELIMINATED!!!" show on Spike.

After reading about the first epsidoe I decided to give this one a shot (Watched first 2.5 seasons and all star) and found it rather boring. Felt like both challenges went on FOREVER. I'll give it one or two more episodes before giving up on it.

Suicane's right. While I can acknowledge that from a purely physical standpoint, Angie doesn't measure up to any of the other younger women on the cast, she is the one I would want to date. Smart girl, unique and fun personality. Flawed body, but you know kids, most women have flawed bodies. It's okay.

But, I agree that the pit hair would not be amongst my favorite qualities. Let's just assume she doesn't have that in real life.

I would not assume that at all. Nothing wrong with a couple of artistic tatoos but for a woman with that many I would assume that armpit hair is a way of life.

Angie? Seriously? I find her not only physically repulsive but annoying as hell. If I hear her whining about how she doesn't have a chance and the world is against her blah blah blah, I'm going to change the channel (unless they cut to one of the hot chicks immediately ;) )

I'm also for the smart team. I love it when the teams end up turning into the more physically gifted and the more mentally gifted. I love how that one guy thought that he could pull the trunk underwater better by attempting to stand on the ocean floor and repeatedly tug at the rope instead of using leverage. You also would have thought that they could have figured out to use the smarter team's idea of sending multiple people down to always keep the thing moving instead of the one at a time and then look at each other like idiots to see who is going next strategy that they came up with.

This could be really entertaining, until they start using purely physical challenges for immunity challenges to attempt to even it out a little.

They've been there three days. I think it's safe to assume that she has it in real life. Unless it grows that quickly on her, which is scary.

If I hear her whining about how she doesn't have a chance and the world is against her blah blah blah

Eh, I really don't think she whined that much. If she had kept that crap going for more than one episode, I'd agree. She got picked last, got her feelings hurt, moped about it for a bit -- but then pulled herself together and won some respect via kicking ass in the challenge. Episode two, all toughness, no whine.

I should be watching this (I saw the first episode), but I can't ever remember to watch it. My ex knows someone that's on it. Willard served with her dad in Vietnam. She said it's weird seeing him like that because normally he has long hair with no facial hair and it's the opposite on the show.

And Angie is a damn dog. From what I saw on the first show, I agree with EagleFan. Repulsive and annoying. She tries way too hard to be the "oddball". She seemed like she was determined to not fit in with everyone from the start.

I predicted this after the first show that they will bring those people back at some point. I think last nights episode was one of the best ever. The immunty challenge was awesome. I don't know how Ibraham lost and James comment were classic.

I thought tribal council was funny when Jeff was asking them if they feel everyone is doing work, and she's said, "Well we go sit on the boat" thinking that was of some real assistance. The chick hadn't done anything from what we saw, unless it was edited out, if you're on the losing team every time you'd better at least make an effort so that you're not prime for the picking.

Another funny Kim moment was at the immunity challenge when she went at the chick and let out the grunt, and then just kinda let herself be pushed off the side, like the grunt had taken a lot out of her.

dola: That was great. Giving immunity to the guy who was obviously gone made the losing team really have to rethink things. Glad that they realized that Angie was the one that needed to go.

Glad to see Willard go as well. He was not pulling his weight and was slowing that team down.

That one team could be almost extinct by the time the merge comes around. It's 8-4 right now but could be 9-4 if that was an immunity challenge today (I wonder how they would have worked out the no member can sit out back to back challenges rule if that had been the case). If they merge at 10, it could have been possible to be 9-1 going into the merge. I wonder what the provisions would have been for a 2 person tribal counsil in that case (the final one before the merge).

I think this has to easily go down as the worst tribe in Survivor history at this point.

She can spin it by saying "I had to set up the tie first to make James think I was backed into a corner, and that allowed me to change the vote to what I committed to". Now we'll just see if she does spin, or if she just shot herself in the foot with Bobby Jon.

But who cares what James thinks? He's not going to be a juror. Seems to me it was just bizarre and not-very-bright voting strategy. Steph is one of the greatest female competitors ever on Survivor, but she does not appear to be the greatest strategist.

Ulong needs to find some way to send Koror to another tribal council before the merge to make Koror's voting alliances get exposed a little more. If that happens maybe Steph can make some political hay out of that (even though Janu appears to be dying and might be an easy unanimous mercy boot). Otherwise, Koror has no reason not to pick off remaining Ulongs before turning on themselves, and Steph/Bobby Jon/Ibrehem have no chance.

Also, anybody amused at how much Probst is verbally mauling Ulong every episode? Really, Ulong's pathetic but I don't think it's been bad strategy that's done them in -- they just can't get it done in challenges for whatever reason, even though they look okay on paper. They've done things by the book voting-wise. The only non-quitting strong person they voted out was Jolanda. Otherwise they've been dutifully removing the weaker tribe members (although James lasted one week longer than he should have). There've been several worse tribes than Ulong, from a strategy standpoint, in Survivor history. Those tribes simply got saved by twists/shakeups before they had a chance to implode.

See, I thought Steph's move was perfect.

Think about it: She had an alliance with James. Bobby John has an alliance with Ibrahem, but has told her that he would break that alliance and team with her. He could be lying, but trusting him is probably Steph's best option at this point since James was dead weight.

So the plan was to vote James off this time, then take out Ibrahem next time. So far so good. But that plan only works smoothly if Ibrahem doesn't figure it out first. He has to think he's safe with Bobby John -- if he sees the backstab coming, he becomes a wildcard (not to mention they could merge any time now and they don't want Ibrahem to know they were plotting against him).

If the vote comes in 3-1 to get rid of James, Ibrahem has to figure out that the Steph/James alliance wasn't as strong as it looked and he probably pieces it together. So instead, Steph votes with her alliance the first time, knowing she'll switch after the tie. Now she looks like she made an impulse decision to get rid of James and avoid another tie.

So right now, Ibrahem probably figures that the vote went perfectly. He thinks he's safely allied with Bobby John, and Steph is next to go. If Steph and Bobby John really do team up, Ibrahem won't see it coming because of her misdirection vote.

With only the 3 of them left that strategy is pointless.

I think she just made an illogical impulse vote to avoid a tie for no reason....for the second time.

I think she may have told Bobby Jon she was going to do that because she felt some sort of bond to James and she said she didn't want to be a liar.. so in effect she made herself feel better by at first voting Ib and then changing to James.

Did seem like an odd move, but I'm not too suprised by it.

No it's not, for two reasons:

- If they merge, they want Ibrahem to think he's part of the team. If he knows they were ready to backstab him he'll sell his vote out to which ever sub-alliance from the other tribe makes him the best offer.

- Even if they don't merge (and assuming they lose another immunity), it's far easier to double-cross someone who doesn't know it's coming. If he figures it out, he has a chance to go to each one of them and try to talk them out of it, which will make for some very nervous times for Steph and Bobby John as they're left to hope he doesn't succeed.

But she already voted for Ib. He has to know that.

Why vote for Ib at all if this is your strategy.

Because it's all about giving Ib a false sense of security. You want him to think Steph voted against him, because the re-enforces the idea that she's on the outside of his alliance with Bobby John. Now he figures that she targetted him, but it doesn't matter because he knows that he and Bobby John will be voting her out next. If she'd voted for James the first time, he'd be wondering what happened to the James/Steph alliance and might figure out what's coming.

IMO, the Top 5 Survivors Left:
1. Tom
2. Stephenie

Ian and Greg over Bobby Jon just because Koror is doing so well. Personally, I am rooting for Bobby Jon.

They would have had they stuck with their guns and kept their original four. But when they decided to let Greg and Jen dictate strategy and talk them into dumping Steph, they made an enemy and screwed up. Heck, invite Karen into the group to make 5 and pick off Greg and Jen. Greg's a threat to Tom and Ian anyway.

The thing I thought was interesting was how Jeff was basically inviting Janu to leave. They clearly know that Steph is the Rupert of this Survivor and don't want her gone early. I also think they were getting concerned about Janu's health, given how she reacted in that challenge and her overall attitude / approach.

Or if you do good, you have to do REALLY good. There have been 2 Survivor seasons (notably the first) where someone on the chopping block has run off a string of individual immunity challenge victories to put themselves in the final group.

This actually kind of pissed me off. I've heard interviews with Jeff and other producers of the show saying how fair of a game it is and how they would never do anything to influence the outcome. So much for that. I know that the editing is always done to make the show more dramatic, but this was a little over the top.

Yeah. A few seasons ago when that one guy became the first to quit the show, Jeff could barely disguise his contempt for him. He looked like he wanted to spit on him as he left. But this time he practically jumped out of his seat and dragged her off the set as soon as she said the word "yes".

I think Steph is still screwed - there is no way Jen is going to turn on Greg...

I wonder what Greg's overall plan is now, however - several episodes ago he approached Coby about a secret alliance that also involved Janu and maybe Karen. That's obviously dead now. I guess he is hoping to get to a point where he can convince Karen and/or Katie to vote off Tom...

Either way, I think Steph is gone next week, which sucks...because the fact that she is still in it is simply amazing.

Simple Math can really help everyone out here. When there was 8 people left Steph wanted the group of 4 to vote for Janu, at the same time Gregg and Jenn wanted Steph out and Caryn and Janu will basically vote for whoever. This most likely meant that if Tom, Ian and Katie wanted to stick with Steph and vote out Janu then it would be the 4 of them against the other 4. This is obviosuly bad as Gregg or Jenn could decide to go after Ian or Katie instead, forcing a tie at tribal council.

Now that it is down to 7 people there is no reason to keep a 5 person alliance (Ian, Tom, Katie, Gregg & Jenn). You now only need a 4 person alliance to swing the voting in your favor. Now that they only need 4 people Ian, Tom and Katie will take in Steph and push Gregg or Jenn out of the picture.

Steph is going to try an all-girl alliance next week, which is never going to work because of the Jenn/Gregg connection. Her only real hope is that the Tom/Ian/Katie group realize Gregg is an even greater threat and take her back, although Tom sounded extremely methodical about his intentions to oust Steph last night.

Of course, Tom is the biggest threat out there but is also very well-placed politically. The only way he goes now is if Gregg/Jenn grow brains and figure out they're not in his final plans (all these people just saw Rob/Amber in all-stars -- G/J have to know they're not in anybody's final plans, so they need to just attach themselves to whomever is most desperate and maybe worm their way to the end that way).

Physically she's a threat. Intellectually, I don't think so. There were several challenges where she wasn't the brightest light bulb. Remember the first episode when she jumped off the canoe/boat because she thought she could swim faster than 19 other people rowing?

Bingo. And that might end up costing him a million dollars.

If he'd BS'ed that answer, acted as if he'd never vote for Steph, he could probably get her back in the alliance. But instead he was honest, because he knew he had the votes to take Steph out and it obviously never occured to him that Jeff would encourage Janu to quit before the vote. So he told the truth, Steph heard it, and now she's got her chance to make him pay for it.

Finally got around to watching this episode and because it was shown in the preview means there's no way it's going to happen (reality show rule #245).

I also think Tom can win every immunity challege as he has shown to be the best player physically and mentally. I don't see him losing a challenge unless he a) breaks a bone b) gets a severe illness (has to be severe as I see him as being able to 'will' himself through it) c) gets eaten by a shark as an act of revenge d) Jeff announces the immunity challege is who can hold their liquor.

I think Steph will be leaving. Or there's a secret alliance that the producers have been editing out, only to show it when they strike.

I thought it was a little unfair that Jeff became an active participant in the last episode and altered the ending. Janu was not going to quit without Jeff's interference. With a million dollars on the line, I would be pretty annoyed if that had wrecked my plans.

Something interesting about this episode that what you also do not see in the episode:

"Quitters never win, but if they make it far enough on "Survivor," they get to be on the jury.

Janu Tornell, 39, became the fourth person in "Survivor" history to quit the competition, but she'll still help decide the winner of the $1 million prize as a member of the nine-person jury – a heated issue the tribal council cameras didn't capture.

"It wasn't to save Stephenie (LaGrossa) in the game," Tornell told The Associated Press Friday. "It ended up like that. At the same time, it was almost like a power play because I threw a wrench into their game."

The former Las Vegas showgirl said host Jeff Probst didn't coerce her into departing "Survivor: Palau," although it may have seemed otherwise.

"He aided me," said Tornell. "I was at the point where I thought, 'I want to go, but I don't want to jeopardize being part of the jury.' I was still battling with 'quitter.' I hate that word. But I did it. I laid down my torch. No regrets whatsoever."

Viewers didn't see Tornell's concern about whether she would be on the jury if she quit the CBS reality show. After going back and forth for several hours, Tornell said Probst asked for a break in the filming.

"The cameras stopped," said Tornell. "Tribal council got really heated. You guys didn't even get any part of that. (Probst) goes, 'This is off the record. What's going on, Janu? What are you worried about?' And I said, 'Basically, I don't want to lose my place in the jury. I don't know where this takes me."

Tornell said Probst left the tribal council area and consulted with producers. (The three players who quit "Survivor" in previous seasons departed before juries were formed.)

"It was all a new drama situation for everybody involved," said Tornell.

Probst returned and assured Tornell that she wouldn't forfeit her place on the jury by quitting. The cameras started back up, and Tornell did just that.

Now, as a jury member, she'll be on the lookout for the player "who I thought played the game the best."

imo what should happen tonight is Caryn siding with Ian and Tom again to vote out Jenn. She would be a fool to go with the other girls and vote out the men, knowing she'd never outlast Jenn in the endurance immunity, and Jenn would take Katie to the final. With Ian and Tom, there's a better chance of her going to the final than with the girls. Plus those all women alliances never work. Who knows what will happen though. What sucks is, Ian has some crush on nasty Katie, so I see next week he tells Tom he told the chicks he'd vote Tom off. Tom is rightfully pissed, as he said this episode he has done everything in his power to keep Ian sticking with him.

So basically now I think Tom has to win all the immunities, which would have been easier had Ian been voted out.

Basically, I have a gut that Ian and Katie will be the final two, which of those 2 winning I don't know. But I feel Tom will give his vote to Ian, stating something along the lines of "You betrayed me, but you played the game well and deserve 1 mil."

Based on the preview for the finale, I wonder if Ian didn't broker a new agreement before this TC with Katie/Jenn to knock out Caryn and then Tom next time -- which might explain Jenn's vote. Dunno why that would have been edited out, but I wonder.

Katie really played well this episode. Whether she was just being a girl or whether it was deliberate strategy, she now completely owns Ian. She reduced him to a blubbering pile of mush and was probably very smart to keep him, because he's going to do her bidding for the rest of the game. Ian appears to have lost his mind between last week and this week.

I'm going to be really disappointed if Katie wins. As I said earlier in the thread, that whole "How dare you stab me in the back while I'm busy trying to stab you in the back?" line is my least favorite play on Survivor. And it works every single time. Sheesh! Ian tries to bring up her screwing him over in the prior reward challenge, and she doesn't want to talk about it. Talk about playing up to the stereotype. "No, honey, we won't talk about what pissed you off, we're only going to talk about what pissed me off." Women like Katie give women a bad name...

Yep, but like you said, it works, so I call it a good play. I don't think Katie can actually win, though. One if not both of the guys is going to be final 2 -- this immunity challenge wasn't really even that physical, and STILL the girls weren't even close to the guys. Tom fell like 600 times and still won the challenge. The remaining immunities will be won by Tom or Ian, and I can't imagine Katie would beat either of them... although if it's Ian-Katie, Ian might beg the jury to vote Katie, based on his pathetic performance tonight...

Caryn hung herself in the tribal council. She should have kept her big mouth shut, instead of going off on everyone. The woman (and Tom) should have booted Ian. The two guys are the strongest players. Tom would have sealed his victory by booting Ian.

I still say Tom is the favorite to win at this point. He's certain to win any endurance challenges and we all know that the Final Three challenge is the big endurance challenge. If he makes it to the Final Three, Tom wins $1,000,000.

You don't know why they edited that out (if it happened)? I don't watch this show all that often, but when I do, each episode is virtually the same - it's not about documenting what goes on during each few days, but just cut-and-pasting enough pieces of footage together to manufacture some sort of CSI/L&O-type "surprise" ending. I saw the last half of last night's episode, and it was typical - all they let us see lead to the obvious conclusion that Ian would be voted off, and of course, he didn't get more than 1 vote.

It's the same cookie cutter crap every episode that I watch that prevents me from getting into this show. It's like the CSI from last night - the college kids die in the dorm room, and they only talk to 2 students, one of whom they badger the entire episode. I turned to my wife and said, "This is like a Scooby Doo episode - only 2 possible suspects, and the obvious answer is the one they never focused on." Bingo!

This is probably why I don't watch much non-sports TV anymore...

I still say Tom is the favorite to win at this point. He's certain to win any endurance challenges and we all know that the Final Three challenge is the big endurance challenge. If he makes it to the Final Three, Tom wins $1,000,000.

I am not so sure Tom will get votes if he makes it to the final 2. If he would go against Jenn, I say she wins. Against Katie He has a better chance. Against Ian I say Tom loses.

I think an Ian/Katie/Jenn alliance didn't have to be edited out -- they had already shown enough prospective alliances throughout the show, so hypothetically the viewer wouldn't know which ones were actually for real. That said, I agree, after 10 seasons of this show, the editing patterns have become very regular. I'm not sure who wins but I can pretty much guarantee that Jenn doesn't -- she's edited in the exact same way as a Butch or Darrah. The invisible final 4 player with no story probably doesn't win.

It's tailor made for a Katie/Ian final.

I can't stand Katie or Jenn. Maybe they've edited Jenn out but I can't remember a single thing or a single word she's spoken. All I remember is her laying around with Gregg.

Tom is by far the best player but the shame of the game is he's a longshot to win.

Vecepia?

Vecepia?

I wouldn't call Vecepia invisible, under-the-radar for sure but not invisible. I think the completely invisible player is a phenomenon of the more recent seasons. Vecepia was actually fairly prominent in the first few episodes, then disappeared for several weeks, then resurfaced in the endgame. As compared to this season, where Jenn has never surfaced and didn't even have a *confessional* until episode three or four.

Rewatching season 2, the Australian outback, I can say the editors don't do nearly as good a job as they used to of making sure every player was known to the viewer.

I find that most players get a three or four episode story arc before they're voted off. So if you're halfway through a season and you realize you have no idea who one of the players is, bet on them going to the final four.

That being said I predicted Tom would win 5-2, but Katie's answers were so poor and negative that it's a wonder she even got one vote. I could have gone into a dictionary, picked random words and used those for my answers and probably would have done better than her.

I had Tom pegged to win against any of the other 3.

1. He was a better version of Ian.
2. Katie didn't do anything
3. Jen did even less than Katie.

The victor, I think has always gone to the better overall player (out of the final 2). At least, the ones I've watched, which is most of them.

Now, the best player's I thought were Stephanie and Bobby John. Had either of them, with what they went through, gone up against Tom, I think they would have won it all.

My thoughts:

A total dominating performance by Tom. His tribe dominated the challenges and he dominated the individual immunity challenges. He deserved the win.

Ian was too young to try to play the game his way. He couldn't lie and deceive well enough, and that's how he got caught.

Katie was horrible. She goes second on my list of final two who didn't deserve to be there. Lil the Boy Scout old chick goes first.

That singing from Wanda is horrible. WTF?

Daddy, who did you name me after? Janu, I named you after a skanky Las Vegas showgirl who I met on a reality TV show.

Probst continues to annoy me. First, he defends himself on live TV(unnecessarily IMHO) from something that happened episodes ago. Just to make himself look like a good guy. Second, he attacked contestants personally. Do you see Alex Trebek do that? As a matter of fact, Alex comes off that he would do well at Jeopardy. Probst comes off as being too arrogant and cocky to do well at Survivor.

Just some random thoughts.

Tom deserved it, and figured he had a great shot. The other Survivors (with one or two exceptions each season) vote for who they felt played the best game, and there was no way anybody thought Katie did anything other than ride coattails.

Katie still just doesn't "get it". She was surprised everyone thought she had been mean to people, even though they have her on camera playing her "leader of the high school clique" role throughout the show.

Ian is definitely smitten. As pointed out, he was too young to handle this, he hasn't been screwed over by enough women yet to avoid being played by Katie. I do give him credit, though, for his last action in the game, as it was a big growing up moment for him. As he said, at least he left the game with his self-respect. Had he been more mature to begin with, it would have been a stupid move, but I bet he's much more capable of coping with similar situations in the future now.

I think Jenn played a harder game than people give her credit for. Especially down the stretch run, her game was to sit back and keep her mouth shut until she needed to open it, then she'd reach in and stir the pot and sit back to watch the fallout. Nicely played by her, she just got caught as the odd person out (and couldn't build a fire to save her life).

I wanted to hear more about that guy that didn't even make it to a tribe. Angie finally gave a bit of an explanation, and I figured it had to be something like him ticking off a bunch of people.

Great job by Tom... probably the best overall performance by a winner since Rich in the first season. And it was nice to finally see the best player win -- maybe this will put an end to the dominance of the "fly under the radar" strategy for a while.

His jury performance was almost flawless. I think future contestants in that situaiton should just repeat his answers, word-for-word. Katy was the opposite, just a complete meltdown.

I was disappointed that Jeff didn't ask Ian and Katy some tougher questions during the wrapup. Specifically, they didn't get into her hypocrisy over being betrayed by Ian when she was plotting against him all along (and did nothing the help him when Tom turned on him).
