View Full Version : MVP or 2K5 Baseball?

I played the 2k5 demo in store yesterday, and I like the new pitching mode. I want to get a baseball game, I know MVP is supposedly more in depth, but don't think I like what I read about all the batting hassle-detail. I want something fairly realistic but not overly detailed. Which is the better bet?

If there is already a thread on this, I apologize for the duplication. Maybe someone can link it? Thanks in advance.

I've played both and put a few comments in that other thread. I'll write a bit more detail once I've had a little more time to play 2k5 (this weekend). Overall, I like the gameplay of MVP better, but I like the way 2k5 does the player evaluation and stuff, some of the franchise elements. Plus 2k5 has some really irritating bugs. MVP seems to be the much cleaner game. But 2k5 is not near as far behind in the gameplay this year as they were last year, in my opinion.

I'm waiting on MLB 2006, looks like it is going to be pretty good....

Not sure what ya mean on batting hassle here? The hitter's eye or something else? The hitter's eye is completely optional, but is a great aid.

If you just mean in general, yeah the hitting is difficult, but it's simple at the same time.

Of course, I haven't played Sega's version since World Series 2k1 I think it was, so I can't comment. Which is odd because I'm usually a pretty big Sports fanboy. Just from my reading around though, almost no one says their offering is better, although it is much improved from last year.

I would definitely not say that 2k5 is better than MVP. There are some things I like better, but 2k5 has some issues. I'm not to my first offseason yet, but it looks as if two of the things I loved in the past two versions are not around anymore (waivers and rule 5). That will knock it down a rung seriously if it's true that those are gone.

The presentation for 2k5 is great, but I've found some things missing (like a trading block) and some things that are nice but don't work (like depth charts).

Overall, MVP is probably the better game. At least, that's my opinion so far.

Well, I would say originally I was leaning towards 2K5 based on price, but now I'm leaning towards MVP with interest in hearing/seeing more of MLB 2006.

I have them both, just in case I get the urge to play one or the other. Right now it's 2K5, but I'm sure I'll go back and fourth between the two pretty regularly. One thing regarding the depth chart in MVP if anyone knows? How the f#(k do you use it?! I can't figure it out.
