I have been fiddling with this style of puzzle for some time, and thought this might be interesting for some of the FOFC puzzle regulars, especially if you might be a bit sick of the riddles and language stuff that has been dominating the enigma puzzles of late.

The 9x9 grid below can be filled in with the digits 1-9, such that every row has one of each, every column has one of each, and every sub-square has one of each.

I’ve given you a start – the numbers given are fixed, period.

+---+---+---+
| |83 | 17|
| 51|2 | 3 |
| | 7| 9 |
+---+---+---+
|1 3| | 8 |
| 4 | 9|7 |
| 6 |4 | 2 |
+---+---+---+
|61 | 2 |9 5|
| 74| 1 | |
|9 5| | |
+---+---+---+

Your job, of course, is to logically fill in the rest of the grid, so that it follows all the rules above.

Have fun.

These have become very popular in Britain over the last few months and The Times now runs one every day along with their traditional crossword. However, the name of these puzzles escapes me.

And no, I'm not very good at them at all.

I almost have it, but work has gotten busy.

Not sure where yo begin

Well... a good spot to begin might be in the lower left box. It already has 6 of 9 digts filled in for you, so only 3 to go: the 2,3, and 8.

Now... in the upper right of that box is a blank, which needs to include either a 2,3, or 8. But there's already a 3 in that column... and there's already a 2 in that row. So -- we logically can conclude that the only digit that can fit into thet specific space is an 8.

That is the kind of logic you need to use in filling these out. Hope that gives you a spark.

I already gave up. I went through this logic but after a while it is pretty boring. Good brain teaser for those people who want to put the time into it. Personally I can not do a teaser that takes more the 20 minutes without getting annoyed.

While I'm all for the secrecy of a good puzzle left publicly unsolved ... I really don't need to verify whether your answers are correct. The rules are pretty simple -- either your solution follows the rules, or it doesn't. If you got it, you know you got it, in all likelihood.
