Anybody know a good book to use to learn PHP? I basically know nothing about it, I'm just curious. Thanks.

Beginning PHP from Wrox Press is a solid choice. How much C++ do you know?

What is the difference between PHP and PERL? I've heard they are similar.

I got this for $5 at Half Price Books. I love those stores. My O'Reilly Bookshelf is now about 20 books thanks to them and only one I can think of cost more than $5 (Physics for Game Developers at $8).

Nah.

If you know Perl or C++, though, picking up PHP will be a lot easier.

Thanks, I picked up Sam's Teach Yourself PHP, MySQL & Apache for $8, saw the same book at Barnes and Noble for 34.99. The cover was pretty messed up, but other than that the book is ok. I've used Sam's before so I'm going to start with this. I have the php.net site bookmarked and have spent a couple of hours reading there, but I like to have a book that I can take with me.

if you plan on doing and PHP and MySQL, the above book is great. There is an updated version of this, but I still find this book very helpful.

Sure you can find resources on the web to help you for free, but there are times when nothing beats a good old book.
